PM aids ailing single mother living in poor conditions
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has presented a contribution to Melah Idris, a single mother living in poverty and suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol.
The contribution was handed over by the Prime Minister's political secretary, Datuk Ahmad Farhan Fauzi, when he visited the 63-year-old mother of eight at her home in Kampung Padang, Kuantan.
Ahmad Farhan said the senior citizen relied entirely on her children to cover kitchen expenses and utility bills.
'Her house is in a poor condition, with the bedroom floor already rotting and no longer safe to live in. Yet, her face remains calm, as if she keeps all her suffering deep inside so as not to burden anyone.
'On behalf of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, I am presenting a small contribution and will look into the most appropriate form of assistance for her, not only in terms of financial aid but also in ensuring a safer place for her to live,' he said in a Facebook post shared by the Prime Minister today.
In the same post, Ahmad Farhan expressed hope that no citizen would be left to suffer in silence without receiving proper assistance.

PM Anwar: Embrace diversity as strength, not source of division
Anwar speaking at the 2025 Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak celebration dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here last night. – Bernama photo KUCHING (June 23): Racial diversity should be embraced as a strength to enhance national unity, rather than as a battleground for rivalry or a means to showcase superiority and ego, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. He said that in many other countries, such diversity has led to racial and religious hostility, eventually burdening the nation and negatively affecting the people. 'Unity within our multiracial society is increasingly essential to ensure that Malaysia remains strong amid the current uncertain global geopolitical landscape. 'Never underestimate the potential problems if you are disunited. The geopolitical conditions are so challenging and alarming. The future is never certain. But what we can ensure is a united Malaysia,' he said. Anwar was speaking at the 2025 Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak celebration dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here last night, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi were the guests of honour at the event. Anwar said as prime minister, he feels proud in showcasing the country's cultural and racial diversity, especially as Malaysia assumes the ASEAN chairmanship this year and when receiving foreign dignitaries and corporate leaders. He said this was exemplified during a recent meeting with ConocoPhillips Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ryan Lance, where he wore a traditional Iban outfit gifted to him earlier by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. 'So I told him (Ryan) about Sarawak, about the beauty of the culture, that's what we have to do. And I take great pride as a Malaysian to speak to one of the great multi-billion dollar companies, probably one of the biggest oil companies in the world and number one in the United States,' he said. Meanwhile, Anwar also announced that he will meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto this Friday to discuss a proposal for Sarawak to be positioned as a hub for the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). He said Sarawak, with its strengths in hydroelectric, gas and hydrogen energy, has the potential to spearhead the APG, not only by linking to Sabah and Indonesia's Kalimantan, but also extending to the southern Philippines. – Bernama anwar ibrahim geopolitical lead multi-racial national unity

Anwar calls on Sarawak PKR to strengthen party's grassroots
KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Sarawak leadership line-up to continue strengthening the party's grassroots following the recent party elections in May. The Prime Minister said PKR's grassroots strength must be embraced, reminding those who won in the election not to be arrogant but instead to work together with all parties, including those who lost. 'Each of us has our own role and strength to continue serving the people. 'Building the party in the Land of the Hornbills is no easy feat, but with collective determination, KEADILAN can certainly establish a firm footing,' he said in a Facebook post after a meeting with the Sarawak PKR Leadership Council yesterday. Anwar added that the mandate given to the leadership was not an absolute right, but a major responsibility that must be carried out with honesty and sincerity. 'Power and position are not licences for comfort or abuse of trust. All leaders must uphold integrity, be transparent in their actions, and always prioritise the people's interests,' he said.

Sabah PKR Youth say UMS students crossed the line
Published on: Monday, June 23, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jun 23, 2025 Text Size: 'Such actions not only disrespect the principles of mature and civilised discourse but also contradict the spirit and long history of the PM's struggle against corruption and abuse of power since the 1998 era,' said AMK Sabah Information Chief Mohd Nur Hilmie Milus. - Pic for illustration only. Kota Kinabalu: Angkatan Muda Keadilan Sabah condemned the burning of a caricature resembling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during Saturday's Gempur Rasuah 2.0 rally, allegedly by some Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students. They said while they back any public movement fighting for integrity, transparency and the eradication of corruption, they reject the controversial act. 'Such actions not only disrespect the principles of mature and civilised discourse but also contradict the spirit and long history of the PM's struggle against corruption and abuse of power since the 1998 era,' said AMK Sabah Information Chief Mohd Nur Hilmie Milus, in a statement, Sunday. He said the Prime Minister has been among the most consistent, firm and courageous political figures in combating the culture of corruption, not just in speeches but through various institutional reforms and fiscal transparency policies currently being implemented under the Madani Unity Government. 'We believe that any form of public pressure should be conducted in a measured, factual and constructive manner, not by ridiculing symbols of leaders who are driving real change in the country's administration,' he added. He said AMK Sabah remains committed to being a progressive voice for youths, advocating against corruption and institutional reform, but through principled and wise approaches rather than street rhetoric that plays with symbols revered by people. Advertisement 'We fight corruption, not create new enemies,' Mohd Nur Hilmie said, pointing out their stance on building a just and clean Malaysia through constructive means. In their statement on Friday, the students said they were glad over the unprecedented police approval for their Gempur Rasuah Sabah 2.0 peaceful rally the following day. They said Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, ACP Kasim Muda had advised that their rally be conducted peacefully and orderly, without provocation or disturbance to public order. 'It should be normalised as a sign of respect towards the right to assemble and express, as guaranteed under the Federal Constitution,' the group said. The rally began at 1pm in front of Suria Sabah shopping mall, with participants marching to Lintasan Deasoka, Gaya Street, and continuing the demonstration through Sunday. Their demands included firm action on the Sabah Water Department scandal, institutional reforms, suspension of individuals accused of corruption and on appointments to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah post. Meanwhile, another group of students, Gammas, alarmed over the police greenlight to the Gempur Rasuah group despite one of their demands clearly touching on the prohibited 3Rs (Race, Religion and institution of Rulers/TYT) decided to hold theirs supporting the state government. However, it was not known whether when applying for permission the Gempur Rasuah group had withheld from police knowledge that the TYT institution was also among their grievances. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
