Anwar calls on Sarawak PKR to strengthen party's grassroots
KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Sarawak leadership line-up to continue strengthening the party's grassroots following the recent party elections in May.
The Prime Minister said PKR's grassroots strength must be embraced, reminding those who won in the election not to be arrogant but instead to work together with all parties, including those who lost.
'Each of us has our own role and strength to continue serving the people.
'Building the party in the Land of the Hornbills is no easy feat, but with collective determination, KEADILAN can certainly establish a firm footing,' he said in a Facebook post after a meeting with the Sarawak PKR Leadership Council yesterday.
Anwar added that the mandate given to the leadership was not an absolute right, but a major responsibility that must be carried out with honesty and sincerity.
'Power and position are not licences for comfort or abuse of trust. All leaders must uphold integrity, be transparent in their actions, and always prioritise the people's interests,' he said.

IGP Khalid: Never joined any political party in 38-year career, accepts false report with ‘open heart'
PUTRAJAYA, June 23 — Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail today reportedly denied joining any political party throughout his 38-year career in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). According to a report in The Star, Khalid said the news organisation that had erroneously reported he was part of PKR had requested to meet him, and that he would do so 'soon'. 'I accept what happened with an open heart,' he was quoted as saying. On Saturday, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh issued a statement saying Khalid had never been a member of the party or held any position within it, and warned that such false claims could undermine his credibility. The report wrongly linking him to the party was published by a newspaper last Friday. Khalid, who is from Manong, Perak, joined PDRM in 1987. He served as police attaché at the Malaysian High Commission in London from 2014 to 2018, before returning to lead the Pahang Special Branch. In 2023, he was appointed director of the Special Branch at Bukit Aman, a position he held until his recent promotion to IGP.

DPMs, Cabinet ministers convey condolences over death of Sarawak Premier's wife
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers conveyed their condolences to Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg over the death of the Sarawak Premier's wife Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang today. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a statement, described her passing as a great loss to the people of the state. He added that her loss is not only felt by her immediate family but is also mourned by the people of Sarawak, who greatly valued her contributions and service. "The Premier's late wife, whom I had the honour of knowing, was a gracious and gentle soul who was deeply committed to charitable and social work, especially in empowering women and communities in Sarawak. "I represented the Federal Government this morning in visiting the Sarawak Premier's family, conveying our condolences and expressing the solidarity and prayers of all Malaysians in this time of sorrow. "I pray that Allah will shower His mercy upon her soul, forgive all her sins, and place her among the righteous. May Abang Johari and his family be granted strength, patience and acceptance in facing this trying time,' he said. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in a Facebook post, expressed his condolences and described her passing as a significant loss to the people of Sarawak. "It is a great loss not only to the family of the deceased but also to the people of Sarawak. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Premier and all members of her family," he said. Several Cabinet Ministers also conveyed their condolences through official statements and social media posts. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil prayed that the Sarawak Premier and his family be granted strength and patience during this difficult time. "Our prayers are with Tan Sri. May Allah SWT accept all the good deeds of the deceased, forgive her sins and place her among the righteous," he said. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu also described her passing as a significant loss, not only to her family but also to the state of Sarawak. "The deceased was a calm yet influential figure, offering unwavering support to the Premier's leadership-quietly, yet with remarkable strength. "Behind every great leader stands a devoted and loyal partner who plays a vital role in strengthening the family unit and fostering harmony within society," she said. Nancy said the deceased's maternal warmth and gentle nature are fondly remembered not only by her family but also by the people of Sarawak, many of whom were touched by her presence, whether directly or indirectly.
