PM Modi to unveil infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,700 crore in Bihar's Siwan ahead of assembly polls
PATNA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various infrastructure and development projects worth Rs 5,700 crore in Bihar's Siwan district on Friday. This marks his second visit to the poll-bound state in under a month and his fifth since January this year.
Modi's visit is expected to further energise the political atmosphere in Bihar, where state assembly elections are scheduled for October-November. During his visit, he will also flag off a Vande Bharat Express train connecting Patliputra railway station in the state capital to Gorakhpur in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
Siwan, once regarded as the stronghold of late RJD MP and strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, will witness several key unveilings during the Prime Minister's visit.
Notably, PM Modi will flag off the first locomotive manufactured for export to Guinea in West Africa, produced at the diesel locomotive factory in Marhowrah, Saran district. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time Indian Railways is exporting a locomotive, rather than sending aid under a line of credit as done previously with countries such as Bangladesh and Mozambique.

The biggest share of the war expenses is coming from Israel's side, and it is starting to hurt the country's economy. According to Brigadier General (Res.) Reem Aminach, who once served as the financial advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF), said that Israel is now spending nearly USD 725 million (around Rs. 6,300 crore) every single day just on military operations. Over Rs. 12,000 crore spent in the first two days As per a report by Ynet News, Aminach shared that in the first two days of the war alone, Israel spent around USD 1.45 billion, which is more than Rs. 12,000 crore. This includes the cost of both attacks and defense efforts. Out of this, more than USD 500 million was used for carrying out airstrikes, buying jet fuel, and similar operations. The remaining amount was spent on missile interceptors, mobilizing soldiers, and other defense preparations. War expenses could go even higher In Israel's first major attack on Iran, just the cost of aircraft and weapons used came to about USD 593 million. On top of that, money was also spent on calling up reserve forces and running defense systems like the Iron Dome that intercepts enemy missiles. Aminach explained that this is only the direct cost of war. There are indirect costs too, like the impact on the economy and national productivity which cannot be fully calculated right now. He said the real financial damage will only be known later, when losses to civilian property, disruptions in business, and declines in GDP are also taken into account. Economic growth takes a hit Due to the war, Israel's Finance Ministry has lowered its expectations for the country's economic growth. Earlier, the ministry had set a target for a 4.9 per cent fiscal deficit this year which is roughly USD 27.6 billion. While some money was kept aside for emergencies, most of it was already spent during the war in Gaza. Now, with the added cost of the Iran conflict, there is no separate fund in place to handle the new wave of expenses. For 2025, the ministry has cut down its GDP growth forecast from 4.3 per cent to 3.6 per cent. Defence systems under pressure According to a report by the Washington Post, Israel is also facing a shortage of missile interceptors, the weapons used to shoot down enemy missiles. Experts say that if the U.S. doesn't step in to help soon, Israel may only have enough supply to keep its defense system running for another 10 to 12 days. That's a worrying situation for a country that is heavily relying on technology and air defense to protect its citizens and infrastructure. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran is now affecting global markets, especially the price of crude oil. As tensions between the two nations rose after June 13, oil prices saw a sharp increase. According to rating agency ICRA, crude oil prices jumped from USD 64–USD 65 per barrel to around USD 74–USD 75 per barrel. What it means for India India imports most of its oil from abroad. So, even a small rise in prices can lead to big expenses for the country. If the average crude oil price increases by just USD 10 per barrel, India's oil import bill could go up by around USD 13–14 billion. That's a massive burden on the economy. This could also increase India's Current Account Deficit (CAD) -the gap between what we spend and earn from foreign trade – by 0.3 per cent of GDP.

Bihar elections: CM Nitish Kumar hikes pension scheme to Rs 1100; move to benefit over 1 crore in state
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar (PTI photo) NEW DELHI: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced a significant hike in the state's Social Security Pension Scheme, increasing the monthly pension amount from Rs 400 to Rs 1100 for elderly citizens, persons with disabilities, and widowed women. Taking to X, the CM said, "I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, all the elderly, disabled and widowed women will now get a pension of Rs 1100 instead of Rs 400 every month. All the beneficiaries will get a pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all the beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries a lot…" The revised pension scheme will take effect from July, and the state government has assured timely direct transfers to beneficiaries' bank accounts every month. The announcement comes just months ahead of the crucial Bihar assembly elections. Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the opposition alliance, led by Tejashwi Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), is joined by the Congress.

International Yoga Day 2025: A sea of humanity descends on Beach Road
A sea of humanity descended at RK Beach in the early hours, in Visakhapatnam, on Saturday (June 21, 2025). The brightly-illuminated road, the large gathering of people, already settled on the green mat laid on both sides of the road, made one wonder whether day break had already occurred. Many coming from the far flung areas of the city had to start at around 3 a.m. to reach the venue by dawn as there would be restrictions on movement of vehicles and public near the main venue in view of the stringent security in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation at the 11th International Day of Yoga – 2025 (IDY-2025) celebrations at RK Beach. International Yoga Day LIVE updates Students participating in IDY were asked to report at their respective schools and colleges by 3 a.m. 'I had apprehensions on coming to the venue at that time of the night. On coming out, I saw two-wheelers, buses and other vehicles moving on the road as though it was broad daylight. My worry vanished,' said a woman, who attended the celebrations on the Beach Road. RTC buses were seen parked one after the other on the service road and also on the main road at Kancharapalem Highway to pick up DWCRA women and others, who had registered themselves for participation in the IDY event. The police personnel had a tough time in directing the crowd to their respective place near the main venue. International Yoga Day 2025 — In pictures 1 / 20 Ministers, MLA s and people's representatives dressed in yoga T-shirts came to their enclosure, a little away from the main dais, before daybreak. Some of them took selfies and some tried to catch the attention of media persons, who were seated a little away. Minister Kondapalli Srinivas was seen taking selfies with other participants. Minister K. Atchannaidu was seen standing for quite sometimes as he seemed to have difficulty in squatting on the ground for a long time. Home Minister Anitha was seen posing for pictures along with some other participants. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness that in 11 years , after declaration of June 21 as IDY by the United Nations, 175 countries had adopted it. 'I am proud to see the visually challenged learning yoga through Braille. Yoga is for everyone beyond boundaries, age or ability'. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the month-long Yogandhra campaign had engaged 2.17 crore participants across the State, creating several records. Emphasising the role of yoga for a healthier Andhra Pradesh, he appealed to the people to adopt it in their daily life. He advocated the inclusion of yoga in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympics.
