Germany's Woltemade happy about another hat-trick, at U21 Euros

Nick Woltemade has added to his scoring credentials with a second straight hat-trick to give Germany a winning start into the under-21 European championships and further make a name for himself.
The 24-year-old from VfB Stuttgart scored all goals in Thursday's 3-0 over Slovenia, after also netting three times in a 3-1 over Spain in the team's previous match in March. He has 10 goals from 13 U21 matches overall.

Woltemade has enjoyed a meteoric rise this year, freely scoring for Stuttgart in the final weeks of the season which has generated interest from other clubs, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich reportedly monitoring his progress.
Woltemade shrugged off this aspect, saying that "these are things I am honestly not dealing with. I am very happy to be here and to have scored three goals."
"It was a very good start and I think it can continue like this. The three goals did me good. And I think they also did the team good."
Germany have big ambitions at the tournament, and Woltemade found the net again after failing to score in his first two senior national team matches last week in the Nations League against Portugal and France.

Coach Antonio di Salvo hopes that Woltemade's run continues, saying: "The streak with us is scary, but it can go on like this."
Germany next face the Czech Republic on Sunday and defending champion England on Wednesday. Victory against the Czechs could see Germany clinch a place in the quarter-finals.

The Canadiens Have An Important Date On Saturday

With the draft fast approaching, the Gold Star Group is hosting its annual showcase at the Barwis Performance Centre in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The CEO and player agent, Daniel Milstein, has published his schedule on an Instagram story. On Saturday, June 21, the Montreal Canadiens are set to meet Russian prospect Alexander Zharovskyi. The 6-foot-1 and 163-pound left-shot right winger is ranked fifth amongst European skaters by the NHL Central Scouting and has an explosive mix of skills, but is still trying to put it all together. He tends to rely on his skills and abilities, perhaps a bit too much at times, which can lead to turnovers that could have been avoided. Advertisement Canadiens: Former Hab Could Come Back To Atlantic Division Canadiens: A Big Name Interested In Montreal Canadiens: Demidov Set To Take Part In Showdown With his height, he needs to put on some weight and is in dire need of time in the gym to add some muscle, which would make him harder to take off the puck. He was dominant with Tolpar Ufa in the MHL, especially in the second half of the season. He started the year with only 6 points in 15 games, but he then exploded for 26 points in 18 games which lead to 50 points and 24 goals in just 45 games. Those numbers led all players under 18 years of age and he really forced the scouting world to take notice. His offensive game is impressive not only in the opponent's zone, but also in transition to launch the attack. At this stage of his development, it's hard to evaluate what his ceiling could be, but he's an intriguing package that could fit the Canadiens' style of play in the Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton era. He looks like the kind of player who could benefit from a coach eager to teach like Martin St-Louis. His ranking amongst scouting media varies, TSN's Craig Button has him at number 36, McKeen's Hockey ranks him at 43, while Dobber prospects has him at 42, but Recrutes puts him at 58. As for THN's Ryan Kennedy, he is not enamoured with the prospect, ranking him 81st overall. Advertisement To make the trip to Florida, it seems the Canadiens are at least intrigued by the prospect and they do have two second-round picks, the round in which he's most likely to come off the board. The Canadiens have pick number 41 thanks to the trade that sent Mike Hoffman and Rem Pitlick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for Casey De Smith, Jeff Petry, Nathan Legare and this pick. Montreal also has its own pick which comes at 49 overall. It's hard to predict how the draft will go down, but if Zharovskyi is still on the board when the Canadiens' turn comes, it wouldn't be surprising to see them gamble on this project of a prospect. Report: Wirtz successfully completes medical checks with Liverpool

Germany's Florian Wirtz (L) and France's Manu Kone stand on the pitch after the UEFA Nations League soccer match between Germany and France at Stuttgart Arena. Federico Gambarini/dpa Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz has successfully completed medical checks with Liverpool, broadcasters Sky reported on Friday. He's now expected to sign a deal with the Premier League champions until 2030. Advertisement The deal for the young forward could be worth up to €150 million ($172.74 million) including bonuses, making Wirtz the most expensive signing in Bundesliga and Premier League history. Only Paris Saint-German's moves for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have ever carried a higher transfer fee. The Germany international had been a major target for top European clubs, including Leverkusen's Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

Former NBA great Vlade Divac breaks a hip in motorcycle accident in Montenegro

PODGORICA, Montenegro (AP) — Former NBA center Vlade Divac underwent emergency surgery after breaking a hip in a fall from his motorcycle in Montenegro, doctors said Friday. The accident happened Thursday on a road near the Montenegrin Adriatic Sea coast. Hospital officials said the 57-year-old Divac sustained a fracture and that an artificial hip was implanted. 'During the day, a surgical procedure was performed,' said Ljubica Mitrovic, a spokeswoman of the hospital in the town of Risan. 'He is in a stable general and physical condition and is under a careful supervision of the medical staff.' The 7-foot-1 (2.16m) Serbian center started and ended his 16-year NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings. He was an All-Star in 2001. He later served as general manager of the Kings. When he joined the Lakers in 1989, he was among the first group of European players to transfer to the NBA. Divac was also the first player born and trained outside the United States to play in over 1,000 games in the NBA. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. ___
