Now it is England and we want to win our third game in a row." Advertisement Coach Antonio di Salvo is delighted to have Woltemade, who recently also made his senior national team debut in Nations League games against Portugal and France. Woltemade is tournament top scorer with four goals and was Man of the Match in both games. If he continues in this way he could become the first German Player of the Tournament since former World Cup winner Rudi Völler in 1982. "He changes our game, and that's why I am happy that he arrived with so much energy and that he his keen to play football and keen to have success with us," Di Salvo said. He added on Monday: "Nick deserves to be the centre of attention right now, but it's a credit to the whole team. Advertisement "We've now scored seven goals. Nick was involved in many, many goals. But I'd still like to mention again that we've played very well as a team so far." Tresoldi, Paul Nebel and Eric Martel were on target alongside Woltemade, and defender Rocco Reitz named the two victories "a signal towards our rivals" and "a boost for our confidence." Di Salvo meanwhile announced "a few hours off" for the players "so that they can find the time to enjoy this great event." Advertisement For Woltemade, this just means recovery: "I will stick to resting and save my energy for the next games." Di Salvo said on Monday that Woltemade may even be rested for the England match. He has now played twice for the senior national team, and two games over the full distance here, and that's why I need to talk to him," Di Salvo.

Germany's Woltemade happy about another hat-trick, at U21 Euros
Portugal's Ruben Dias and Germany's Nick Woltemade battle for the ball during the UEFA Nations League semi final soccer match between Germany and Portugal at Allianz Arena. Peter Kneffel/dpa Nick Woltemade has added to his scoring credentials with a second straight hat-trick to give Germany a winning start into the under-21 European championships and further make a name for himself. The 24-year-old from VfB Stuttgart scored all goals in Thursday's 3-0 over Slovenia, after also netting three times in a 3-1 over Spain in the team's previous match in March. He has 10 goals from 13 U21 matches overall. Advertisement Woltemade has enjoyed a meteoric rise this year, freely scoring for Stuttgart in the final weeks of the season which has generated interest from other clubs, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich reportedly monitoring his progress. Woltemade shrugged off this aspect, saying that "these are things I am honestly not dealing with. I am very happy to be here and to have scored three goals." "It was a very good start and I think it can continue like this. The three goals did me good. And I think they also did the team good." Germany have big ambitions at the tournament, and Woltemade found the net again after failing to score in his first two senior national team matches last week in the Nations League against Portugal and France. Advertisement Coach Antonio di Salvo hopes that Woltemade's run continues, saying: "The streak with us is scary, but it can go on like this." Germany next face the Czech Republic on Sunday and defending champion England on Wednesday. Victory against the Czechs could see Germany clinch a place in the quarter-finals.

The DFB expects him to help out in the coming U21 European championship. Woltemade spoke on his meteoric rise this year in an interview published on the German FA's website. The Bremen-native could have hardly envisaged all of these exciting developments just one year ago. Stuttgart snapped Woltemade up on a free from Bremen last summer. At the time, he maintained an estimated €7.5m market value. VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß famously left him off Stuttgart's squad for the 2024/25 Champions League group stages. Thanks to 17 goals across all competitions for club this season, Woltemade is now a bonafide €30m-valued star. He also got his name on the scoresheet in all four U21 appearances for country this year and scored a hat trick in his last U21 match. Advertisement 'When I was little, I always hoped that I would be able to achieve these goals one day,' Woltemade noted in his DFB interview. 'The fact that it's all happening so quickly is very exciting and also very crazy. I'm hoping there's more success this summer and it leads to a good conclusion.'\ Woltemade commented on his re-union with former Werder Bremen teammate Niclas Füllkrug on the German national team as well. Füllkrug and Woltemade played alongside each other for three seasons in both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga between 2019 and 2022. Woltemade would end up missing the Bundesliga campaign that rendered Füllkrug an unlikely German national team star (2022/23) as he was on loan at SV Elversberg. Füllkrug's move to Dortmund the subsequent autumn finally enabled him to start getting some minutes for his academy side. 'Back then, I said: Imagine if we play together for the national team one day,' Woltemade said of the last time he and Füllkrug played together, in the German second division no less. 'It's really funny.' Advertisement As for his impressions of the Julian Nagelsmann's senior Nationalmannschaft, Woltemade stuck to some simple praise of DFB captain Joshua Kimmich. After that, it was time to look forward to the U21 tournament and next summer's World Cup. 'Jo Kimmich in particular exemplifies the winning mentality of the guys here,' Woltemade said. 'I will try to take this mentality with me to the U21s. Hopefully, I'll have a few more senior international caps under my belt by then [next summer's World Cup.]' GGFN | Peter Weis

France secure third place in UEFA Nations League
Goals from captain Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise earned France a 2-0 victory over Germany in Stuttgart on Sunday, a success that means they finish third in this season's Nations League. Hosts of the Nations League finals, Germany were looking to bounce back from defeat in the last four against Portugal but fell behind on the stroke of halftime after Mbappe controlled and finished well to score his 50th international goal. Germany thought they had levelled through Deniz Undav early in the second half, but the VfB Stuttgart forward's finish was ruled out following a VAR review. France did, however, remain in control and should have made the result more comfortable before Mbappe squared for Olise late on to secure third spot, with Iberian neighbours Portugal and Spain facing off in the final later on Sunday. Cristiano Ronaldo's winner ensured Germany tasted defeat for the first time since last year's European Championship on Wednesday. They did start well against a France team who were beaten in a thrilling semi-final by Spain, with Florian Wirtz seeing one first-half slotted effort clip the post. Mbappe, however, made no mistake after collecting Aurelien Tchouameni's long pass. The 26-year-old now sits just one goal behind second-placed Thierry Henry in France's all-time top goalscoring charts. Undav's fine finish seemingly restored parity early in the second half, but Niclas Fuellkrug was penalised for a foul in the build-up. Had it not been for Manuel Neuer and the woodwork, France would have been out of sight long before Bayern Munich's Olise tapped home to secure victory that ends their season on a high.
