How to watch Fever at Aces: Caitlin Clark, Indiana face big test in Las Vegas

Sunday's WNBA slate promises one of the most intriguing matchups of the season. The Indiana Fever, led by second-year phenom Caitlin Clark, will take on A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces, winners of two of the last three WNBA championships.
Las Vegas swept the four-game season series in 2024, but the circumstances couldn't be any more different as these squads head for their first highly anticipated showdown of the 2025 campaign.

With a rebuilt roster and a new head coach on the sidelines, the Fever appear to be a legitimate title contender. Despite a 6-6 record (4-3 when Clark plays), Indiana has the third-best odds to win the WNBA Finals on BetMGM — trailing only the reigning champions, the New York Liberty, and last year's runner-up, the Minnesota Lynx.
Clark has followed up her historic rookie season by averaging 19.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 8.7 assists while shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 35.5 percent from 3-point range. She's already recorded a triple-double and dropped 32 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in her return from a hamstring injury to knock off the Liberty, handing the defending champs their first loss of the season following a 9-0 start.

The Fever are still putting the pieces together, but they've already clinched a spot in the 2025 Commissioner's Cup final, which has regularly been a predictor of postseason success. In 2023 and 2024, the teams that made the Cup final also went on to meet in the WNBA Finals.
On the other hand, the Aces (5-7) have gotten off to their worst start since Wilson's rookie season in 2018. Wilson missed a few games due to concussion protocol, but the issues run deeper. Once virtually unbeatable, Las Vegas now ranks in the bottom half of the league in offensive and defensive rating and has already endured multiple 20-point losses. Six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd (11.5 points per game) has also struggled to get acclimated.
Even still, Wilson has played transcendent basketball. The three-time MVP and two-time Defensive Player of the Year leads the Aces in points, rebounds, blocks steals per game, highlighting her immense importance to this team.
Wilson, who sustained a concussion against the Los Angeles Sparks on June 11, returned to the lineup in Friday's loss to the Seattle Storm. She put up 20 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.

The Aces and Fever will face off two more times after Sunday. Indiana hosts Las Vegas on July 3 and 24.

Dawn Staley Says Caitlin Clark's Most 'Dangerous' Weapon is Making Others Better

Head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team, Dawn Staley, has led her squad to three NCAA championships over their last nine seasons, reaching the championship game a total of five times during that span. Staley is also someone who saw great success on the court in her own right during her playing days at the University of Virginia, impressively leading her team to the Final Four three times during her four years in college. Advertisement So, in short, when the 55-year-old Staley chimes in with an opinion on women's hoops, or basketball in general, it makes plenty of sense to listen. On Wednesday, Staley made an appearance on Kylie Kelce's popular Not Gonna Lie podcast, and the two ended up talking about WNBA star Caitlin Clark, who's been an especially hot name this week. Surprisingly, Staley explained in detail why she believes Clark's well-documented three-point shooting ability with seemingly endless range, is actually not what she deems to be the Indiana Fever star's most valuable and, as she put it, "most dangerous" skill on the court. Advertisement "She [Clark] can beat you in a variety of ways. She can beat you obviously with her three-point shot," Staley said. "But for me, the most dangerous thing of Caitlin Clark is her passing ability. Her ability to make other people better. Her ability to have other people's production go up along with her production." Staley went on to explain why, when she coached against Clark in the NCAA tournament on two different occasions, giving up points wasn't nearly as big of a concern as it was had Iowa's famous No. 22 filled up the stat sheet in other ways. "That was our emphasis when we won, when beat them [Iowa]...We said Caitlin Clark's gonna get 30 [points]. But she can't have 12 assists. Because if she's got 12 assists, then she's involving her teammates in a way that doesn't quite add up. We can't produce enough points like they can." Staley also explained to Kelce during her appearance that Clark is "quite incredible" and "quite an anomaly," and credited her for bringing so many eyeballs to the WNBA, particularly all the "new eyeballs." Advertisement The accomplished Staley expressed that, while she had only coached against Clark twice, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year has probably been "the most difficult player to scout" due to the variety of ways in which she can beat a team with her innate ability to get other teammates involved, while also housing the ability to be a highly-prolific scorer. Caitlin Clark's Enforcer Sophie Cunningham Has Taekwondo and Football Background

Back in February, the Indiana Fever acquired Sophie Cunningham and the No. 19 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft from the Phoenix Mercury in what ended up being a four-team trade. Given the wild events that unfolded in the closing seconds of the Fever's dominant 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun on June 17, it seems like the deal for Cunningham is already paying off through just seven games played by the guard. Advertisement For a very quick refresher, Cunningham got into a scuffle with Sun guard Jacy Sheldon after a hard foul that ended with the Fever's new enforcer placing a grip on the back of Sheldon's head and neck while holding her ground amidst the growing chaos. And there's a perfectly good reason why Cunningham appeared to display not even a sliver of fear in that moment, given her accomplished, legendary background both as a karate-kicking child as well as the clutch role she ended up playing for her high school football team. Sophie Cunningham (L) of the Indiana Fever and Jacy Sheldon of the Connecticut Sun face off during an altercationr at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 17, 2025 in Indianapolis, the young age of six—seriously, just six-years-old—Cunningham amazingly became a black belt in taekwondo. Advertisement To put that in proper perspective, most children at the age of six are on the cusp of learning to read and, athletically, probably just hoping to kick the soccer ball somewhere in the vicinity of the opponent's goal rather than their own. The Missouri native would eventually end up serving as her high school football team's backup kicker after the starting kicker went down after suffering a torn ACL. The following clip not only includes footage of Cunningham successfully kicking an extra point, cleanly splitting the uprights, but also shows her receiving Homecoming Queen honors while wearing a football uniform, obviously. It's probably safe to say that taking on the role of balancing the scales and protecting a star teammate by dishing out a hard foul is basically an effortless task for Cunningham. Advertisement Looking back, everything Cunningham said in March, prior to the season, about having Clark's back and sticking up for her teammates now carries some serious, legitimate weight in a major way. "I want her [Caitlin Clark] to go do her thing and anything she needs from me, I'm gonna be here. But again, I think that's just the competitor that I am, I'm fierce, I'm sassy. I stick up for my teammates, I stick up for myself," Cunningham stated. "Sometimes, I think that it's okay to be feisty and to be yourself." Cunningham's popularity has understandably surged ever since the very moment the 28-year-old guard went after Jacy Sheldon in the name of protecting Caitlin Clark, with her No. 8 jersey proceeding to sell out on Fanatics by the following morning. Advertisement That No. 8 jersey has since been restocked in most sizes, all while Cunningham's fame continues to sky-rocket, with the seven-year WNBA veteran unofficially, or perhaps officially, being dubbed as Clark's "enforcer" and reaching borderline superhero status among Fever fans. Amber Cox, general manager of the Fever, certainly sounded like someone who knew exactly what the team would be getting based on her statement in February following the acquisition of Cunningham. "Sophie is a player that we have targeted for a while, and one that we believe is a perfect fit for the style we want to play," Cox said. "She is a fierce competitor, works incredibly hard on both ends of the floor and is one of the best shooters in our league. We are excited to add her to our squad." Up next for Cunningham and the Indiana Fever is a road game against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, June 22, in a featured nationally televised game with tip-off scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN.
