Sophie Cunningham Sends Telling Message After Getting Ejected
Sophie Cunningham Sends Telling Message After Getting Ejected originally appeared on The Spun. Sophie Cunningham got the last word during Tuesday night's game between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun, pulling Jacy Sheldon to the ground during the final minute of regulation. Advertisement This wasn't a random act of violence from Cunningham. It seemed like she was retaliating for the way Sheldon guarded Caitlin Clark. During the third quarter of Tuesday's game, Sheldon poked the former No. 1 pick in the eye. If that wasn't bad enough, Marina Mabrey shoved Clark to the ground. Even though Cunningham's foul on Sheldon was considered retaliation, Sun head coach Rachid Meziane had a huge issue with it. Meziane didn't just call Cunningham's decision "completely stupid," he had an issue with the referees ejecting Sheldon for how she responded to the foul. "When you are winning a game by 17 points and you doing this stupid foul, this is just disrespectful," Meziane told reporters. "I don't know how Jacy and Lindsay [got] rejected from the game when they did nothing." Advertisement On Tuesday night, Cunningham posted a photo of her holding out her arms on her Instagram Story. It seemed like her way of trolling Sheldon and the Sun. "I knew Sophie was going to get that get back for Caitlin today. Sophie definitely getting ejected for that, but so what. Sophie is definitely the enforcer of this team," one fan said. "Sophie Cunningham was born to defend Caitlin Clark and the rest of her teammates. Enforcer Barbie," another fan wrote. The WNBA has not yet said if it'll discipline Cunningham for her actions. As of now, Cunningham is available to play against the Golden State Valkyries this Thursday. Advertisement The Fever and Sun will meet again on July 15. We'll see if there are any fireworks during the rematch. Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark Announcement in Game Against Valkyries
Indiana Fever Make Caitlin Clark Announcement in Game Against Valkyries originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is one of the WNBA's best distributors, setting the single-game record for assists during her rookie season and earning some praise from her team after dropping a dime in their clash against the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday. Advertisement The team shared praise for Clark's tight quarters pass to a driving Natasha Howard during the third quarter of Thursday's game. Howard took Clark's pass and finished strong, scoring and drawing a foul to extend Indiana's lead to 10 points. The Fever shared a replay of the pass in a post on X, announcing that Clark had the State Farm Assist of the Game. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year has already filled her season with milestones, becoming the first player in league history to record 100+ points, 30+ assists and 30+ rebounds through her first five games of the season. She also became the first WNBA player to record back-to-back games of 20+ points and 10+ assists. Clark helped pick up the slack on Thursday in the absence of Fever coach Stephanie White, who missed the game due to personal reasons. Assistant coach Austin Kelly took over against the Valkyries, saying the team was ready to rally together. Advertisement "It's going to be the same. I think we are an extension of each other," Kelly said Thursday via Kendra Andrews of ESPN. "The message is still the same that we talk about in the locker room: playing for each other, getting it done on the defensive end and then having that help fuel us on the offensive end. But the vibes are good." Caitlin Clark trolled online as Indiana Fever lose to Golden State Valkyries
Despite securing an 88–77 win over the Indiana Fever, Golden State Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase sharply criticised WNBA officiating during Thursday's heated contest, adding her voice to growing league-wide frustration with referees. Caitlin Clark endured one of her poorest performances of the season, shooting just 3-of-14 from the field, missing all seven of her three-point attempts, and committing six turnovers. Indiana's head coach Stephanie White was unavailable for personal reasons, with assistant Austin Kelly stepping in. The Fever led at half-time but were overrun by a 33–18 fourth-quarter surge from Golden State. Nakase's anger flared late in the second quarter after a pair of disputed calls — a no-call when Valkyries guard Carla Leite appeared to step out of bounds, followed moments later by an off-ball foul on Monique Billings. Though her outburst drew no technical foul, her protest against referees Amy Bonner, Ryan Sassano, and Kelsey Reynolds was emphatic. Clark's Struggles Under Spotlight Clark, the rookie guard who has drawn attention both for her scoring and the scrutiny she receives on court, finished with 11 points — five of which came from free throws — and posted a -10 plus-minus. She was held scoreless in the second quarter and visibly frustrated as Golden State's defence, particularly Leite, applied constant pressure. Caitlin Clark keeps its real 💯 on the Valkyries atmosphere in ballhalla 🤟🏽 in post game interview — Golden State Valkyries Report (@valkyriesreport) June 20, 2025 Social Media Trolls and Team Triumphs While Nakase voiced her frustration courtside, the Valkyries' social media team drew widespread attention for live commentary that veered into mockery. Real-time posts highlighted Clark's misfires with memes, sarcastic captions and comparisons — including one that likened her flop attempt to a 'Pez dispenser' head snap. The online trolling was capped with a Steph Curry 'Night Night' GIF after the final buzzer, cementing the team's dual impact — both on and off the court. Boston Shines Despite Fever Collapse Indiana forward Aliyah Boston had a strong individual showing, scoring 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the first half, finishing with a double-double — the 29th of her career. She also moved into second place on the franchise's all-time double-doubles list and fourth in blocks. Teammate Natasha Howard recorded her 4,000th career point. The Fever (6–6) continue their three-game road stretch with a matchup against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, nationally televised on ESPN.
