Wrexham sign Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie on three-year contract

Plymouth Argyle striker Ryan Hardie has become the first summer signing of ambitious newly-promoted Championship club Wrexham for an undisclosed fee. Hardie had 12 months remaining on his contract at Argyle and Plymouth Live understands that he was offered a new improved one by the Pilgrims but Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, came up with a deal which was worth more than that. Advertisement Sky Sports News reporter Anthony Joseph posted on X (Twitter) tonight that it was understood Wrexham had paid in the region of £700,000 for Hardie, whose release clause in his contract was reduced after Argyle's relegation from the Championship. Advertisement Hardie, who has signed a three-year contract with the Wrexham, told the Welsh club's official website: "I'm delighted to get the move done, I'm really happy to get it done so early and I cannot wait to get going. "To get a full pre-season will be a massive benefit, to get integrated into the squad and learn the way the manager plays and get to know everyone will be important. "The last couple of seasons, it's been good getting experience in the EFL Championship and it's experience I can lean on now. I've enjoyed playing there, and I've managed to score a few goals, so hopefully that can continue this season. 'I love how family-oriented the club is, the community is all together and it really is a one-club city. Everything is to do with the football, and I'm really excited to be a part of that – I'll give everything I've got for the badge.' Advertisement The move to Wrexham means Hardie can continue to play in the Championship following Argyle's relegation to League One and given the high profile of the north Wales club it could boost his chances of a first Scotland call-up. Hardie leaves Argyle in joint 12th position in the club's all-time scoring list with 74 goals from a total of 174 starts and 74 substitute appearances since first joining from Blackpool in January 2020. That was the first of two loan stints for the former Glasgow Rangers striker before he completed a permanent transfer to the Pilgrims early in 2021. Hardie was Argyle's top scorer last season with 12 goals in all competitions, one more than Mustapha Bundu, who is out of contract at the end of this month and has rejected the offer of a new deal. Advertisement So it is now a priority for Argyle and their new head coach Tom Cleverley to add attacking firepower to their squad with the departures of Hardie and Bundu. Hardie will be reunited at Wrexham, who finished as League One runners-up to Birmingham City last term, with two other members of the Pilgrims' 2022/23 League One title winning squad in goalkeeper Callum Burton and defender Dan Scarr. Ryan Hardie says Plymouth Argyle farewell after Wrexham transfer

Ryan Hardie has declared he and his family will never forget the 'special memories' from his five-and-a-half years at Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims' 2024/25 Player-of-the-Year and top goalscorer has joined newly-promoted Championship club Wrexham, who have risen from the National League under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Advertisement Hardie put pen to paper on a three-year contract to become Wrexham's first summer signing and while his transfer fee was not officially disclosed it has been reported the north Wales club activated a £700,000 release clause in his deal at Argyle after their relegation to League One. We have shared some special memories over the years that myself and my family will never forget. What a club and I wish you all the best for next year and beyond." He first joined Argyle on loan from Blackpool in January 2020 and scored on his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 League Two win away to Carlisle United. That was the first of 74 goals he went to get for the Pilgrims, with many memorable ones along the way. They included a dramatic last-gasp strike in a 3-2 win away to Salford City in February 2020, which was very important in their eventual promotion to League One on a points-per-game basis during that Covid-shortened season. Hardie had one hat-trick for Argyle which came in their 4-1 away League One win at Crewe Alexandra in February 2022, which came just three days after he had a penalty saved late in extra-time of a 2-1 FA Cup fourth round defeat away to then Premier League champions Chelsea. Advertisement He netted a total of 17 times during the Pilgrims' 2022/23 League One title-winning campaign and added another 13 goals the following season. The former Glasgow Rangers forward then finished last term as Argyle's 12-goal leading marksman, with 10 of them coming in a 13-game spell after former head coach Miron Muslic moved him to a new number 10 position. Hardie grabbed what turned out to be the winning goal when Argyle finally clinched that first away Championship victory in 11 months as they beat Portsmouth 2-1 at Fratton Park in March. Wrexham were promoted to the Championship as League One runners-up behind Birmingham City last season and the expectation is they will make a number of eye-catching signings over the rest of the summer transfer window. Hardie said: "Delighted to join @Wrexham_AFC, it feels like something special is happening at this club and I look forward to building a special relationship with the fans and helping the club achieve its objectives. Midfielder Forshaw signs new Blackburn deal

Adam Forshaw made nine appearances for Blackburn after joining them in the January window [Getty Images] Midfielder Adam Forshaw has signed a new one-year contract at Blackburn Rovers. The 33-year-old played an important role at Ewood Park in the second half of last season, having joined from Plymouth Argyle after terminating his contract with the Pilgrims by mutual consent in January. Advertisement Forshaw, who previously played for Everton, Brentford, Wigan Athletic, Middlesbrough, Leeds United and Norwich City, made 30 appearances for Plymouth after joining them on a free transfer in the summer of 2023. After linking up with Rovers, he played nine games in the Championship and becomes the club's second signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrival of Dutch winger Dion De Neve. A statement on the club website said that Forshaw had become "an influential figure in the dressing room, setting standards in training and mentoring the younger members of the squad."
