It's hard to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 no matter where you live in the United States, but if you live in a specific part of Texas, you may be finding it harder than others because thieves stole a big portion of the stock.
Earlier this month, thieves stole 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles from a semi-truck on its way to a GameStop store in Grapevine, Texas. The theft was reported on the morning of June 8 when the truck stopped in Colorado. This must have been a restock of the Switch 2 as it originally went on sale on June 5.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office shared the news alongside a photograph of the back of the ransacked truck. The driver has said he didn't know exactly what was in the truck, and it has since been confirmed it was full of pallets of the new games console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 sells for $449.99, and the bundle with Mario Kart World included costs $499.99. That means the value of this robbery was somewhere between $1,250,000 and $1,400,000, depending on how many Mario Kart World bundles were included.
Many retailers have been receiving a 50/50 split between Mario Kart World bundles and the standard version of the console, so it's likely to be valued somewhere over $1.3 million. The police are looking for information about this robbery and they're asking anyone with information to share tips to 720-874-8477.

A Colorado investigation continues looking into a costly heist of $1.4 million of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles being stolen from a truck. On June 8, Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Love's Travel Stop in Bennett. The semi-truck driver made a stop there and said he was doing a pre-trip inspection when he noticed his trailer had been broken into. Several pallets of the Switch 2 consoles were stolen. CBS "Deputies discovered that 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were taken from the back of the truck," said Anders Nelson, a Public Information Officer with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. "These consoles retail for about $499. This is well over $1 million in inventory lost." The console has been a big hit for the gaming community since the Nintendo Switch 2 just released two weeks ago. The gaming consoles are a high-demand item and have been flying off the shelves at big box stores. Nintendo said the gaming system has become its fastest-selling console of all time, surpassing the initial launch of every Nintendo console in history, including the PlayStation 4 and 5. Employees at local video game shops say they can't even get the gaming systems in their stores and are worried the heist will impact supply moving forward. The theft happened just three days after the gaming consoles were released. "It's unruly. It's crazy," said Ryan Barth with Level 7 Games. "Stuff like this hurts it, of course." Nintendo The new consoles are expected to be in short supply globally because of high demand. Barth added that the system has already been hard to get hold of. "We haven't been able to get any into any of the Level 7 stores. As a matter of fact, we've been having a really hard time just ordering them," said Barth. Barth said the stolen consoles will likely be sold online or somewhere that doesn't require documentation, and it will be difficult to know if you bought a stolen item. "Unless Nintendo comes out with all of those numbers that show what numbers to be on the lookout for and what numbers not to buy, it's super hard," said Barth. The driver was headed from Redmond, Wash., to a video game store in Grapevine, Texas, when the heist was discovered. Investigators are now looking into whether the crime happened in Bennett or in another city along the truck's route. "The theft was discovered in the town of Bennett, so the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office is taking the lead on the investigation," said Nelson. "Through the investigation, if we determine that it happened in a different location, we'll obviously work with the correct jurisdictions on this investigation." The Switch 2 is in pretty high demand. Like, so high that it's leading to cartoonish heist levels of high. According to police in Arapahoe County, Colo., 2,810 Switch 2s were stolen out of a truck earlier this month. A truck driver reportedly discovered the missing consoles at a pre-inspection truck stop after noticing the trailer had been broken into en route to a GameStop in Texas. According to 9NBC news, which first reported the heist, multiple pallets worth of consoles were stolen, and, as they note, it's kind of a huge haul. When exactly the heist occurred is unclear. According to a Facebook post from Arapahoe police, the missing consoles were noticed at a truck stop in Bennett, Colo. In case you were wondering what exactly the value of this decidedly wild heist is, I'll save you the math. Police say each console is valued at $499, which is actually not the price of the Switch 2, but is the price of the console bundled with Mario Kart World, so that makes the entire thing a $1.4 million caper altogether. Given the size and nature of the robbery, I have a lot of questions. For one, how did they manage to steal this many consoles so quickly? Sweeping all of them up off the pallets with a lift of some kind would be the fastest, but as pictured in a photo posted by Arapahoe police, the pallets were seemingly ditched inside the trailer. Maybe it was a lot of thieves, or maybe one thief with really big hands… Hmm. Secondly, how exactly do thieves (or a very large thief) plan on unloading all of these consoles? As noted by 9NBC news, each console has a serial number, which makes it identifiable. While there's no way to track that console location based on the serial number, Nintendo could remotely brick those consoles and ensure they never get used, unless the owner has some jailbreak to work around that, which at this stage in the Switch 2's life cycle is highly unlikely. Lastly, I'm wondering who would even be diabolical enough to try and pull off a heist like this in the first place. It'd have to be someone with little to no regard for common moral values. Someone who champions greed and material gain above all else. Someone so cartoonishly bad that Bowser himself would shiver in fear at the thought. Unless… No. Could it be? Listen, I'm no detective, and I don't mean to make light of a felony/criminal mischief qualifying robbery, but this is some Bowser shit if I've ever seen it. I'm open to being wrong here, but I don't think police can rule this one out. I mean, seriously, a heist this big would take a big criminal, and Wario is too goofy to pull it off. Bowser, though? He's a proven kidnapper, hoarder of wealth, and a well-known would-be ruler of the world. If I'm the police (and I can assure you I am not), I'm putting out an APB for a purple muscle car with big-ass spikes on it. I'm just saying, with $1.4 million on the line, you can thank me later, Nintendo.
