Investigation into Colorado $1.4 million Nintendo Switch 2 heist; gaming community says "this hurts"
A Colorado investigation continues looking into a costly heist of $1.4 million of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles being stolen from a truck.
On June 8, Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Love's Travel Stop in Bennett. The semi-truck driver made a stop there and said he was doing a pre-trip inspection when he noticed his trailer had been broken into. Several pallets of the Switch 2 consoles were stolen.

"Deputies discovered that 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were taken from the back of the truck," said Anders Nelson, a Public Information Officer with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. "These consoles retail for about $499. This is well over $1 million in inventory lost."
The console has been a big hit for the gaming community since the Nintendo Switch 2 just released two weeks ago. The gaming consoles are a high-demand item and have been flying off the shelves at big box stores. Nintendo said the gaming system has become its fastest-selling console of all time, surpassing the initial launch of every Nintendo console in history, including the PlayStation 4 and 5.
Employees at local video game shops say they can't even get the gaming systems in their stores and are worried the heist will impact supply moving forward. The theft happened just three days after the gaming consoles were released.
"It's unruly. It's crazy," said Ryan Barth with Level 7 Games. "Stuff like this hurts it, of course."

The new consoles are expected to be in short supply globally because of high demand. Barth added that the system has already been hard to get hold of.
"We haven't been able to get any into any of the Level 7 stores. As a matter of fact, we've been having a really hard time just ordering them," said Barth.
Barth said the stolen consoles will likely be sold online or somewhere that doesn't require documentation, and it will be difficult to know if you bought a stolen item.
"Unless Nintendo comes out with all of those numbers that show what numbers to be on the lookout for and what numbers not to buy, it's super hard," said Barth.
The driver was headed from Redmond, Wash., to a video game store in Grapevine, Texas, when the heist was discovered. Investigators are now looking into whether the crime happened in Bennett or in another city along the truck's route.
"The theft was discovered in the town of Bennett, so the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office is taking the lead on the investigation," said Nelson. "Through the investigation, if we determine that it happened in a different location, we'll obviously work with the correct jurisdictions on this investigation."

Amber Alert issued in Denver metro area after toddler was "taken with force by noncustodial parents"
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber Alert out of the Denver metro area after a toddler was "taken with force by noncustodial parents" early Saturday morning. It happened at 1 a.m. in Centennial on the 5160 block of South Quintero Street. The child's name is Ardin Reid and she is 1. She's White with brown hair and brown eyes, and weighs 20 pounds. She's 2-foot-5. There was no photo of her included in the Amber Alert. The Amber Alert states the noncustodial parents are a White man and an Asian woman. They are Jared Reid, 42, and Rose Kim, 41. Police said they believe Reid is dangerous and has a weapon. The vehicle the pair was driving is a 2001 Toyota 4-Runner with the Colorado license plate 765-LUH and it is silver. CBI At 1:45 a.m. the vehicle was seen in Thornton in the area of 120th and Irma. Anyone who sees the vehicle or the man and woman is asked to call 911 or the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office at 303-795-4711.

Anti-ICE activists help migrant child rapist escape arrest in Colorado: officials
Anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activists in Denver, Colorado, managed to thwart agents trying to arrest an illegal migrant wanted in Italy for child rape. ICE Colorado said on Friday their agents were trying to detain Jose Reyes Leon-Deras, a criminal alien from El Salvador who was convicted of child rape in Italy, when members of a local anti-ICE group alerted him to their presence. ICE said the group, Colorado Rapid Response, posted on social media that ICE was in the area, allowing him time to flee. "During our surveillance of Leon, members of Colorado Rapid Response arrived on scene and alerted him to law enforcement's presence, which allowed him to escape arrest," ICE Colorado said. "Groups like this interfere with ICE's ability to keep communities safe." ICE shared a Facebook post from the group, written in English and Spanish, alerting its followers to ICE's presence in the area and the type of vehicle agents were using. ICE has asked the public to report Leon-Deras to federal authorities if they see the migrant but warned the public not to approach him. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston previously vowed to station police officers to block ICE agents from carrying out deportations, and a report showed that the city has spent over $356 million in taxpayer dollars on services for migrants. A 2017 Denver ordinance limits officials from cooperating with ICE. Anti-ICE protests and activity have grown since President Donald Trump returned to office and vowed to carry out the largest deportation mission in U.S. history. In Portland, Colorado, on Wednesday, anti-ICE activists tried to block the entrance of an ICE deportation facility in Portland and then launched fireworks and shined lasers at law enforcement, Department of Homeland Security assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital. Two weeks ago, a mob of anti-ICE protesters set fire to cars in Los Angeles, damaged property and threw rocks at law enforcement, forcing Trump to activate the National Guard. The "No Kings" protests across the country last week were in part fueled by opposition to mass deportations. On Friday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that 75% of the illegal aliens arrested under the Trump administration have been charged with or convicted of a crime.
