Odisha sets vision for top five economy with focus on basic amenities, inclusive growth

on Friday said Odisha's ambitious vision is to position itself among India's top five states economically by 2036, its centenary year, while ensuring quality basic amenities of bijli, sadak, and paani (electricity, roads, and water) for all citizens and jobs for all.Speaking after chairing a consultative workshop on 'Vision 2036 and 2047' at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi announced that in a first-of-its-kind initiative, Odisha has employed artificial intelligence to analyse over 3.2 lakh proposals received from citizens and non-resident Odias, adhering to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Jan Bhagidari' vision.
"The vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias and a promise for future generations," said Majhi, revealing that the draft is nearly complete, as he nears one year of his office on June 12. The plan, dubbed '36 for 36' by the CM earlier, will implement 36 flagship programmes across various sectors, including economy, industry, education, health, and infrastructure.The state aims to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and reach $1.5 trillion by 2047, serving as a crucial growth engine for a developed India. The state govt envisions Odisha as India's gateway to East and South-East Asian nations through port-led development. "Infrastructure, skill development, ease of doing business — we will do everything necessary to establish industries," Majhi said.Deputy CM Pravati Parida highlighted the focus on women's empowerment, ensuring equal rights and safety across sectors by 2036. Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said various stakeholders contributed to the blueprint for development.Following this state-level workshop, which saw participation from ministers, administrators, and voluntary organisations, three regional workshops are scheduled in Sambalpur, Balasore, and Jeypore.The vision documents for 2036 and 2047 represent comprehensive plans for transforming Odisha into a prosperous, industrially advanced state while maintaining focus on quality healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities for all citizens.Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said extensive consultations were held with intellectuals, various civil organisations, social workers, educators, public representatives, environmentalists, and civil society members to finalise the

'India is a natural extension of West Asia, and I think India has to take a lead in making sure that there is no widening of the war, and this should all his hostility should be seized. Talking to all the parties-- that's a good indication. That's the way of the South-South cooperation and India can take the lead... and continue to do so with the rest of the countries who are calling for a peaceful solution to the crisis.' Awwad highlights India's dependence on the region for food and oil security, making it vulnerable to disruptions in supply chains. With over 9 million Indians living and working in the Middle East, India has significant regional economic interests, including remittances and trade. 'If this war breaks out in the Middle East, India will be the first sufferer because India is the number one stakeholder in the region-- name it in terms of food security, oil security, diaspora. Imagine you have 90 lakh Indians living in the Middle East with more than USD 60 billion annually in revenue, and having a stake in oil imports from that part of the world,' said Awwad. Over 66% of India's 1.34 crore NRIs live in the Middle East, mainly in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. The large Indian diaspora in West Asia, especially the Persian Gulf, could face risks from regional tensions, making their safety a key priority for New Delhi. Awwad noted that India has adopted a strategic ambiguity in its approach to the conflict, balancing its relationships with the US, Israel, and Arab countries. 'I think India has taken a strategic ambiguity on dealing with the situation in West Asia, in particular when it comes to the United States and Israel, with which they have a good relationship, including a good relationship with Arab countries,' he told ANI. His remarks came against the backdrop of the US launching an attack on three nuclear sites in Iran. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the success of the operation launched by the US in Iran on Sunday. Operation Midnight Hammer targeted three key nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan in Iran. West Asia is integral to India's foreign policy. Earlier this year, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had noted that the history of India and the Middle East is inextricably linked. 'Whether it is commerce or connectivity, ideas and beliefs, or customs and traditions, we have actually seen an interplay over centuries. Interestingly, although India has influenced its extended neighbourhood in all directions, the one to our West has had the deepest impact on its own society,' EAM had remarked. Jaishankar, in his speech on West Asia, said, 'By every yardstick, this is a region crucial to India's strategic interests.' In his speech, he observed that India's trade is USD 160-180 billion annually. While the energy dimension is the most visible, India's crucial presence is also seen through projects, technology, education, health, and services; our presence in the Gulf is both pervasive and crucial. With more than 9 million Indians living and working there, the Gulf region also serves as India's gateway to the Middle East, North Africa and the Mediterranean region. Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi visits Alarnath temple, seeks blessings for state's prosperity
Brahmagiri (Odisha) [India], June 22 (ANI): Odisha chief minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, visited the revered Sri Alarnath Temple in Brahmagiri along with his family and Brahmagiri MLA Upasana Mohapatra on Sunday. The Chief Minister offered prayers and sought the divine blessings of Maha Prabhu Alarnath, a significant deity worshipped during the Anavasara period of Lord Jagannath. Following the Dev Snan Purnima, when Lord Jagannath, along with elder brother Lord Balabhadra and sister Mata Subhadra, is believed to fall ill and take rest (Anavasara), devotees turn to Lord Alarnath at Brahmagiri for darshan. During this time, the temple witnesses a massive influx of devotees, who come seeking the blessings of Alarnath Ji. CM Majhi, during his visit, also interacted with devotees present inside the temple premises, joining them in reverence and prayers. Sharing his thoughts in a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister said, 'Today, I visited Lord Alarnath at Brahmagiri and sought his blessings. May the grace of Lord Alarnath always be upon the state and its people and may his blessings give us the strength to achieve the goal of a prosperous Odisha.' Apart from this, CM Majhi on Sunday conducted a review meeting at the Town Hall of Puri Municipality regarding the preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra scheduled to begin on June 27. He stated that the administration is fully prepared to conduct the Rath Yatra smoothly. Majhi said, 'We held a meeting today to ensure efficient preparations for the Rath Yatra. The final review meeting is over. Today was the final meeting on security review. We discussed everything in detail. We are taking various steps for security in view of the incidents that happen every year. We deployed coast guards at sea, called in security forces. We have taken several steps to control traffic. AI camera and drone camera will be used for surveillance, and helicopters will also be used if required.' During the meeting, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of making the Rath Yatra completely incident-free. He instructed the administration to ensure that all operations -- police deployment, traffic control, fire safety measures, etc. -- are properly managed so that devotees can participate in the Yatra in an orderly and disciplined manner. Govt selects 15 places for agri-tourism devpt
Bhubaneswar: State govt has identified 15 priority destinations for integrated rural tourism development under its Vision 2036 framework, marking a significant shift towards agriculture-based tourism. The initiative, jointly launched by the tourism and agriculture and farmers' empowerment departments, aims to create a diverse range of experiences for tourists. Visitors can participate in hands-on agricultural activities, explore nature trails, witness creation of handicrafts and savour local cuisine prepared from farm-fresh ingredients. The selected destinations are the tribal heartland of Koraput, crafts village of Raghurajpur, silk cluster of Gopalpur, organic farming hub of Kandhamal, coffee plantations of Daringbadi, pastoral landscapes of Bargarh, heritage village of Hirapur, mango orchards of Dhenkanal, rice fields of Sambalpur, spice gardens of Phulbani, palm groves of Puri, vegetable farms of Kendrapada, betel vine gardens of Jagatsinghpur, mushroom cultivation centres of Mayurbhanj, and traditional fishing villages of Chilika. "The initiative will not only enhance tourism offerings but also create additional income opportunities for our farming communities and transform rural women from passive participants to active stakeholders in the tourism economy," said deputy chief minister Pravati Parida, who also holds the tourism portfolio. The programme is supported under the Mukhyamantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY), which will provide capital subsidies and training to agro-tourism entrepreneurs. State govt is particularly focusing on involving women self-help groups and youth entrepreneurs in the rural tourism initiative, ensuring that the benefits reach the grassroots level while preserving local culture and traditions. "Our focus is on creating a model where women entrepreneurs can showcase their traditional skills while generating sustainable income," said deputy CM K V Singh Deo, who holds the agriculture portfolio. The implementation will begin immediately, with the first phase of SHG members' training scheduled to commence next month, official sources said.
