India increasingly experiencing BJP's development model: PM Modi
Bhubaneswar, June 20 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the country has increasingly 'experienced the BJP's development model", pointing to the recent trajectories of Assam, Tripura and, most recently, Odisha. Addressing a rally marking the first anniversary of Odisha's BJP government, the Prime Minister contrasted the 'previous regime's model of governance—marked by delay, obstruction, derailment and corruption' with what he called a decade of 'good governance that makes people's lives easier". Highlighting the Eastern India as a case study, Modi said a decade ago Assam was mired in instability, separatism and violence. "Today the guns have fallen silent and Assam is out‑pacing many other states on several parameters,' he said. In Tripura ,the Prime Minister said after decades of Left rule, Tripura 'lagged on every development indicator,' from crumbling infrastructure to unresponsive administration. Now, Modi argued, it has become 'a symbol of peace and progress.' Coming to Odisha , he said, it had long wrestled with widespread corruption, red‑tapism and poor infrastructure, leaving many regions behind. 'Over the past year we have worked with full resolve to change that reality,' he declared. Modi credited the union‑and‑state 'double engine' approach for a spate of projects worth 'thousands of crores' inaugurated on Friday. This model, he said, is delivering twin benefits: He said lakhs of poor families in Odisha previously excluded from Ayushman Bharat now receive coverage under both the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana and Odisha's Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana. Nearly three crore Odias are eligible for cash‑free treatment—inside and outside the state—and more than two lakh patients have already availed themselves of the scheme in hospitals across a dozen states. Under Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana, over 23 lakh senior citizens (70+) in Odisha can claim up to Rs.5 lakh in free medical care, significantly easing household health costs. Modi said the farmers in Odisha now receive combined assistance under PM‑KISAN and the state's complementary schemes. The higher paddy procurement prices, promised last year, have already benefited lakhs of cultivators, Modi said. The Prime Minister lamented that tribal communities had been kept 'in poverty and deprivation for decades' and 'used for political gain' by earlier governments, which in turn fueled Naxalism. 'Our model brings development to these regions instead of driving them toward violence and oppression,' he asserted. UNI DP RN

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he declined an invitation from US President Donald Trump to visit Washington after his official visit to Canada because he had to come to Odisha, the sacred land of Lord Jagannath. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greets the gathering during a public meeting in Bhubaneswar on Friday. (DD/ANI) 'During my visit, US President Donald Trump called me and said 'since you're already in Canada, why not come to Washington too? Let's have a meal and talk.' He extended a warm invitation. I respectfully told the President of the United States, 'Thank you for your kind invitation, but it is essential for me to go to the sacred land of Mahaprabhu.' And so, I humbly declined his offer, because your love and the devotion to Mahaprabhu drew me irresistibly to this holy land,' PM Modi said at an event in Bhubaneswar to mark the first anniversary of the BJP government led by Mohan Majhi. Modi said Odisha was a radiant beacon of India's rich heritage. 'For thousands of years, it has been a cornerstone of Indian culture, contributing to its growth and vibrancy. Today, as the ideals of development and heritage form the foundation of India's progress, Odisha's significance and role in this journey have grown even greater,' he added. 'Today is a very special day. Today, the first BJP government in Odisha has successfully completed one year. This anniversary is not just of the government; it is the anniversary of the establishment of good governance. This one year was dedicated to public service and public trust. When the BJP government in Odisha is completing its first year, all of you are busy preparing for the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Mahaprabhu is our idol and inspiration and with the blessings of Mahaprabhu, the issues related to the Srimandir have also been resolved,' he said. PM Modi also unveiled the Odisha Vision Document, a roadmap for the state's development goals anchored around the centenary of Odisha's formation as India's first linguistic state in 2036 and India's 100 years of independence in 2047, an official statement said. The vision document aims to transform Odisha into a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047. Additionally, he launched the 'Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana' initiative to honour eminent Odias by developing their birthplaces into cultural hubs. The Prime Minister launched multiple development projects covering critical sectors such as drinking water, irrigation, agricultural infrastructure, health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, sections of national highways, and a new railway line. He flagged off new train services extending rail connectivity to Boudh district for the first time and launched 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport initiative to promote eco-friendly urban mobility.

Dedicated to realise PM Modi's vision of Viksit Odisha, says CM Mohan Charan Majhi
This afternoon, the beloved prime minister of the country, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, arrives in Odisha. On behalf of four-and-half crore Odias, I extend a heartfelt welcome to him on this sacred land of Lord Jagannath. This visit holds a special significance - Modi Ji completes 11 years of dedicated service as the prime minister of India, while I complete my first year as the chief minister of Odisha. In the past year alone, Modi Ji has visited Odisha five times. With today's visit, it becomes his sixth visit since the formation of the double-engine government in the state. Remarkably, Prime Minister Modi has visited Odisha more times than the total visits of all previous prime ministers combined. His frequent visit to Odisha signifies his unique sense of devotion to Lord Jagannath and love for Odisha. During the last one year, I have not only been fortunate to meet him on several occasions, but also experienced his vision for the accelerated economic growth of Odisha. Being involved in social and political activities since my childhood, my concern always remains to make people's lives qualitative, happy and prosperous. I tried to reflect people's aspirations in various capacities – as an RSS member, a teacher in the Saraswati Shishu Mandir, a sarpanch, an MLA and an Opposition leader in the state Assembly. In the two-and-half decades, since I came to the Assembly as an MLA in 2000 and became chief minister in 2024, I have dedicated myself to public service by keeping my personal life aside. Now, I bear the responsibility of leading Odisha's development. My journey of over three decades - built on experience, knowledge, and unwavering commitment to public welfare - has shaped my vision. Above all, the BJP's development model and prime minister's leadership have inspired me with new resolutions. On this path, I am not alone - 4.5 crore Odias walk with me. Modi Ji's governance model - Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas - guides our mission. Today, in the gracious presence of Modi Ji, discussion is being held on the development activities undertaken in Odisha in last one year and the Vision 2036 and 2047. I take this opportunity to reiterate our resolve to facilitate that the benefits of development reach the common Odia families, especially women, farmers, youth and the poor, by making them successful in a time-bound manner.

Community spirit shines through at Kolathia temple Rath
1 2 3 4 5 6 Bhubaneswar: In a spirit of devotion, community participation and a growing global connection, members of Divine Life Society and Jagannath Temple administration at Kolathia are all set to celebrate Rath Yatra on June 27. With thousands of devotees thronging to pull chariots, the festival has evolved into one of the most anticipated events in the area. With preparations in full swing, the rhythmic sound of tools of artisans, the chants of devotees and vibrant colours of chariots signal the return of a celebration of faith, culture and community spirit. Ajay Kumar Patnaik, secretary of the organising committee, said coming to the temple every day at 9 am to oversee the daily functioning and rituals is a routine. "I feel an invisible string that pulls me to the temple every day. The day I fail to visit the temple for some reason, I feel something is missing," Patnaik, a retired judicial officer, said. "Despite challenges, things always fall into place, as if Lord Jagannath himself is orchestrating things. The divine presence keeps us going year after year," he said. Teamwork, coordination and unflinching faith have enabled the members to conduct the Rath Yatra smoothly every year. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Click Here - This Might Save You From Losing Money Expertinspector Click Here Undo "After retirement, I was wondering how my days would pass and what I would do. One day when I came to the temple, the members requested me to manage their accounts. Being part of the temple and involvement in organising the Rath Yatra is like being chosen by Lord Jagannath to serve him directly. The joy, discipline and divinity that the festival brings into our lives cannot be explained; it can only be experienced," said Bidyadhar Jena, treasurer. A budget of Rs 25 lakh has been earmarked for the celebrations. A significant portion of the funds comes from donations by Odias abroad, reflecting the deep emotional and cultural connection of the diaspora. Muktikanta Agasti, a retired banker who has been associated with the temple management since it was formed in 2002, said the first Rath Yatra started with 50-60 people. Swami Siba Chidananda Saraswati, founder of Sibananda Boys' High School and a disciple of Swami Sibananda, recalled the temple's origin. "Idols crafted for a Jagannath temple in Philadelphia were temporarily worshipped at a spiritual conference in Khandagiri. Afterwards, one of the organisers dreamt of Lord Jagannath questioning His return. Coincidentally, we learned the idols couldn't be shipped due to size issues. We took it as a divine sign and brought them back to Khandagiri. A temple was built within three months in 2001, and Rath Yatra has been observed ever since," he said, adding that even the selection of the Mausi Ma temple came with a spiritual story. "While meditating and praying for guidance, I found myself unable to move past the Sudharma Ashram. It was clear it was the chosen place," he recounted. Devotees from surrounding localities, including Ghatikia, Andharua, Aiginia, Satya Sai Enclave, Kalinga Nagar, Kolathia, Khandagiri, Housing Board Colony and Chidananda Vihar, take part in the festivities.

Odisha aims to create over 1 crore jobs by 2047: CM
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday said his government has set an ambitious target of creating 1.1 crore jobs by 2047, when the country will complete 100 years of Independence. Addressing a national seminar on 'Good Governance and Developed Odisha -- 2036 & 2047' here, Majhi said his government has taken an ambitious resolution to make Odisha a prosperous and developed State by 2036, when the State will celebrate the centenary of its formation. This will help achieve the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, he said. 'We have targeted to create 1.1 crore additional jobs in the State by 2047 at a rate of 5 lakh jobs per annum for building a 'Viksit Odisha',' Majhi said. To achieve the target, the State government has been preparing Vision Document-2036 and 2047, which is now at the final stages, he said, adding, 'This vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias. It is a promise to our future generations.' 'Vision document-2036 and 2047 is our resolution for building a prosperous and developed Odisha. We want to build an Odisha that will emerge as a shining star in developed India,' he asserted. Odisha aspires to become a USD 500 billion economy by 2036, when the State will complete 100 years of its formation and a USD 1.5 trillion economy by 2047, he said. 'To move towards a USD 500 billion economy, we need to achieve real double-digit growth every year for at least the next 11 years. The target is certainly big, but it is achievable,' the Chief Minister said. He suggested that the officers should make efforts to move Odisha from an agriculture-based economy to a mixed economy, without affecting agricultural production, and to create suitable opportunities for the educated youth by bringing them from the agricultural sector to the industrial and service sectors. Majhi said the State government has already started working in this direction and recalled the success of the last 'Make in Odisha' conclave. Industrialists from all over the country have shown interest in investing more than Rs 17 lakh crore in just two days of the conclave. About 13 lakh youth, who will be employed in the industries, will have to be trained and prepared for the industrial sector, he said. On employment generation, he pointed out that the government has allocated Rs 65,012 crore in the current budget for the creation of infrastructure and it is 6.1 per cent of the State's gross domestic product (SGDP). The Chief Minister further said that his government has launched programmes for qualitative development in the fields of education, health, social security, housing, women empowerment, tribal and Scheduled Caste development. Out of the total budget of the State government, Rs 89,861 crore will be spent on women empowerment alone, while the government has made a separate provision of Rs 68,881 crore for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who together constitute about 40 per cent of the State. On this occasion, he said the State is making efforts to build Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS) as a global socio-economic institution to support the government in achieving the goal set in the vision document.
