The tribute kicked off with former host Keshia Chanté introducing Ashanti—who made history as the first artist to have a video retired on the show. The R&B star performed a smooth medley of her early 2000s hits 'Happy' and 'Foolish,' drawing cheers from the crowd. Jim Jones followed with a high-energy rendition of his anthem 'Ballin',' setting the tone for Amerie's lively recreation of her '1 Thing' dance routine.
Keeping the momentum going, Terrence J hit the stage to introduce Keyshia Cole. The singer delivered an emotional performance of 'I Should Have Cheated,' which had the entire crowd singing along. Mya continued the nostalgic wave with her 2000 hit 'Case of the Ex,' paired with a routine reminiscent of her original video. Shortly after, hosts Julissa Bermudez and Big Tigger brought out Atlanta legend T.I., who fired up the audience with a medley of his hits 'Bring Em Out' and 'What You Know.'
Longtime co-host Free made a solo appearance, taking viewers back to 106 & Park's early years. She upped the excitement by reuniting all four members of B2K—Omarion, Lil Fizz, Raz B, and J-Boog—who performed their chart-topping hit 'Bump, Bump, Bump,' with Fizz handling Diddy's original verse.
Finally, Mr. 106 & Park himself, Bow Wow, closed out the tribute with a string of fan favorites including 'Take Ya Home' and 'Like You.' He then brought out longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri for a surprise finale performance of 'Fresh Azimiz.'
Capping off the tribute, Cam Newton and Ashley Nicole Moss announced 106 & Sports, a new BET series inspired by the original countdown show, set to debut this fall.

Tyler Perry denies sexual assault claims in $260 million lawsuit filed by Oval actor Derek Dixon

Tyler Perry is facing a $260 million lawsuit filed by actor Derek Dixon, who appeared in 85 episodes of Perry's BET drama The Oval. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses the filmmaker of repeated sexual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation. Dixon claims Perry used his influence to promise career opportunities in exchange for compliance, ultimately exploiting his position of power. According to the complaint, Perry allegedly began sending inappropriate messages after first meeting Dixon in 2019 at a private event. Over the following years, Dixon alleges the advances escalated to sexual assault on multiple occasions, despite his clear objections. The lawsuit includes screenshots of messages and claims Perry later apologized and attempted to maintain control by offering Dixon a pay raise and promises to develop a pilot Dixon had written, titled Losing It. Dixon alleges Perry purchased the rights to the pilot with no intention of producing it, using it as leverage instead. In a statement issued to the press on Tuesday, Perry's attorney Matthew Boyd rejected the allegations, calling them 'fabricated' and accusing Dixon of orchestrating a scam. 'Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail,' Boyd stated. Dixon says he initially remained quiet due to fear of professional consequences, including his character being written off the show. He later moved from Atlanta to Los Angeles and filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2024. After receiving no resolution, he resigned from the series. Tyler Perry, best known for creating the Madea franchise and for his influential role in film and television production, has not personally commented on the lawsuit. The Associated Press noted it typically does not name individuals in sexual assault cases unless they come forward publicly, which Dixon has done.

Tyler Perry sued by Derek Dixon for $260M over harassment, assault claims

Actor Derek Dixon, known for his roles on Tyler Perry's series Ruthless and The Oval, has filed a $260 million lawsuit against Tyler Perry, alleging sexual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation. The complaint, lodged on June 13 in Los Angeles, accuses Perry of creating 'a coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic' during Dixon's tenure on the shows. Dixon, who portrayed 'Dale' on The Oval, claims Perry promised career advancement—including producing Dixon's pilot and expanding creative opportunities—but retaliation ensued after Dixon rejected Perry's unwanted advances. The lawsuit describes incidents at Perry's home in January 2020, including alleged sexual assault, and similar behavior during a cast trip to the Bahamas in October 2020. The complaint also asserts that Dixon's character arc was manipulated as leverage; Perry allegedly warned Dixon that his character's survival depended on granting compliance. At season's end, 'Dale' was shot four times in a cliffhanger, which Dixon interprets as a threat . Additional acts such as non-consensual groping in a trailer and at Perry's home are cited as further allegations. Dixon asserts the stress led to serious health issues, including PTSD, prompting his medical provider to prescribe antidepressants. He left The Oval during the final season and lost nearly $400,000 in earnings. In response, attorney Matthew Boyd called the lawsuit 'a scam,' stating, 'Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail'. Dixon is suing for quid pro quo sexual harassment, assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and retaliation, and is seeking a jury trial. Neither BET nor Tyler Perry Studios have commented.

MTV legend Ananda Lewis dies at 52 after breast cancer battle

Ananda Lewis, the celebrated MTV VJ and host of 'Total Request Live' and 'Hot Zone,' has died at the age of 52 following a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Her death was confirmed by her sister, Lakshmi Emory. Lewis passed away at her Los Angeles home on Wednesday morning. A prominent television personality of the late '90s and early 2000s, Lewis joined MTV in 1997, quickly becoming one of the network's most recognizable faces. She hosted 'TRL,' MTV's flagship countdown show, and 'Hot Zone,' where she conducted exclusive interviews with major musical artists. In 2001, she launched her own daytime talk show, The Ananda Lewis Show, which ran for one season. Lewis revealed in 2020 that she had been diagnosed with stage III breast cancer, a condition she delayed screening for due to fears about radiation from mammograms. By 2024, she shared that the cancer had progressed to stage IV and had metastasized. Despite her illness, Lewis remained candid about her journey, using her platform to raise awareness about early detection. Born in Los Angeles in 1973 and raised in San Diego, Lewis graduated from Howard University in 1995. Her media career began with BET's Teen Summit, which led to her being noticed by MTV. After leaving the network, she also worked as a correspondent on 'The Insider' and later stepped away from the limelight to pursue carpentry. In 2019, she made a brief return to television as the host of TLC's 'While You Were Out.' Ananda Lewis is survived by her son, Langston.
