Mariah Carey Earns Her First Solo Hit Song In A Decade
Mariah Carey returns to the Hot 100 solo for the first time in 10 years with her new single 'Type of ... More Dangerous,' which also launches at No. 1 on other Billboard lists. (Photo by Christopher Polk/Billboard via Getty Images) Throughout the 1990s, Mariah Carey was the queen of the Hot 100, scoring one No. 1 smash after another. Several of her hits from that decade ruled for historically-long periods of time. Lately, Carey has spaced her releases further apart, and she doesn't land big wins like she used to. But the beloved singer is back on Billboard's ranking of the biggest songs in America this week with 'Type Dangerous,' which helps her return to the tally unaccompanied for the first time in years. 'Type Dangerous' opens at No. 95 on the Hot 100 this week. According to Billboard, the track earns Carey her first completely solo hit on the chart roster in a decade. The last time she debuted a tune on the tally without any other featured artists credited was in May 2015, when 'Infinity' arrived and peaked at No. 82. In the years since 'Infinity' debuted, Carey has pushed a handful of tracks onto the Hot 100, but all of them benefited from another artist being included. Her list of recent hits includes 'I Don't' with YG and 'Oh Santa!' alongside Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. Those two tunes peaked at Nos. 89 and 76, respectively. Of course, Carey returns to the Hot 100 every holiday season with 'All I Want for Christmas Is You.' The track finds its way back to the tally sometimes in November, sometimes not until December, but for the past half-decade, it has risen all the way to No. 1 every year. The blockbuster has now accrued a total of 18 weeks ruling the list — a number that will surely climb again at the end of 2025. 'Type Dangerous' powers its way onto the Hot 100 thanks largely to a healthy sales sum. The single opens at No. 4 on the Digital Song Sales chart, with a little under 5,100 pure purchases, according to Luminate. That also sends it straight to No. 1 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and R&B Digital Song Sales tallies. It similarly opens inside the top 10 on a handful of other genre-focused rankings.

Lil Wayne's ‘Tha Carter VI' debuts at No. 2 on Billboard 200 while Morgan Wallen holds No. 1 spot
Lil Wayne gave fans a full-course meal with Tha Carter VI. Deluxe tracks, signed CDs, and an evolution of that Hot Boy sound that's kept him in the conversation for decades. But even with all that momentum, the album still couldn't snatch the top spot on the Billboard 200. Trending Shannon Sharpe apologizes to Nicki Minaj after past comment sparks diss track response Fathers and their daughters: Check out 13 Hip Hop girl dads Check out the must-see performances from the 2025 BET Awards According to Billboard, Tha Carter VI debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 108,000 equivalent album units sold. That includes 73,000 streaming-equivalent units and 1,000 in track-equivalent units. These streaming numbers show that Lil Wayne's digital reach in 2025 is still unmatched, proving his legacy continues to thrive in the streaming era. So, who held Wayne off? None other than Morgan Wallen. His latest release, I'm the Problem, held steady at No. 1 for another week with 209,000 units through June 12. That's right, Wallen's country-pop grip on the charts hasn't let up, even with Wayne applying serious pressure. Tha Carter VI still marks another strong entry in Wayne's legacy. It extends his run of Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 to 13. And while the No. 2 debut might sting for longtime fans expecting a chart takeover, the numbers show just how locked in his fan base still is. The album came with plenty of buzz, boosted by collaborations, a deluxe edition with two bonus tracks, and limited signed physical copies that collectors surely chased. It's Wayne's first studio album since 2020's Funeral, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This time around, though, the competition was tighter. Regardless, the impact is definitely there. Wayne's rollout gave veteran energy with modern reach, showing that even after 20+ years in the game, he's still charting high and drawing real attention from old fans and new listeners alike. Wallen may have kept the crown this week, but Tha Carter VI proved Lil Wayne's reign is far from over. Keke Palmer Serves 90s It-Girl in Archival Chanel Set
Keke Palmer is seen in SoHo on June 17, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by TheStewartofNY/GC Images) In the midst of a Y2K cultural boom, Keke Palmer stepped out in New York City this week channelling her inner 90s It-girl. In archival Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld, Palmer made the most convincing case for the neighbouring decade and its edgy glamour. From the House's 1995 runway, a black buttoned lambskin top and a black skirt with a front vent formed the foundation of the look. The shirt's cropped fit and the skirt's corseted waist kept the look more siren, less office, while her accessories—large gold earrings and a loose chain belt at the waist—both featured the brand's signature double C motif, as did the buttons on her shirt. The actress finished off the look with patent black pumps and the Chanel Boy bag in black croc skin (perhaps another piece due for a revival?) Further, her waist-length copper locks made for a flattering contrast against the look's black and gold theme. Keke Palmer is seen in SoHo on June 17, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by TheStewartofNY/GC Images) This moment doesn't even mark Palmer's first foray into vintage Chanel this month, as just last week she attended the BET Awards in another archival piece. The One of Them Days star stepped out onto the BET red carpet in a black mini dress from the brand's Fall 1993 Haute Couture collection. The flirty piece featured a sheer halter neckline with strategic embellishments, as well as a ruched skirt with a short tulle bustle, both also embellished. She let the dress do the talking with minimal jewellery and her signature black pumps as accessories. With both looks styled by Molly Dickson, who also counts Sydney Sweeney and Sadie Sink as clients, this duo are nailing elegance without compromising on all the fun there is to have with fashion. Here's looking at what they pull out next. Keke Palmer at the BET Awards 2025 held at the Peacock Theater on June 09, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. Tyler Perry sued by actor on 'The Oval' for sexual assault and harassment
FILE - Tyler Perry arrives at the BET Awards on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. (Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP, File) By ANDREW DALTON An actor who worked on the Tyler Perry-created TV drama 'The Oval' has filed a lawsuit alleging Perry leveraged his industry power to repeatedly sexually assault and harass him while keeping him quiet. The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by actor Derek Dixon, who appeared on 85 episodes of the BET series, seeks at least $260 million in damages. 'Mr. Perry took his success and power and used his considerable influence in the entertainment industry to create a coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic with Mr. Dixon — initially promising him career advancement and creative opportunities, such as producing his pilot and casting him in his show, only to subject him to escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation,' the lawsuit says. The lawsuit was filed Friday and first reported Tuesday by TMZ. Perry's attorney, Matthew Boyd, said its allegations are false. 'This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,' Boyd said in a statement Tuesday. 'But Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.' The lawsuit says that Perry first noticed Dixon in 2019 when Dixon was part of the event staff at a Perry party, and later offered an audition. Dixon would first appear in a small role on the Perry series 'Ruthless" before getting the bigger role on the political drama 'The Oval.' Perry soon began sending unwanted sexual text messages to Dixon, according to the lawsuit, which includes screenshots of several of them. 'What's it going to take for you to have guiltless sex?' one of the messages says. The lawsuit says Perry offered Dixon an increasingly prominent role on the show as his sexual advances became more aggressive. The actor says he tried to remain friendly while maintaining boundaries. 'Dixon did his best to tiptoe around Mr. Perry's sexual aggression while keeping on Mr. Perry's good side,' the lawsuit says. 'Mr. Perry made it clear to Dixon that if Dixon ignored Perry or failed to engage with the sexual innuendoes, Dixon's character would 'die.'' The lawsuit says Perry eventually sexually assaulted Dixon on 'multiple occasions," including an instance where he "forcibly pulled off Mr. Dixon's clothing, groped his buttocks, and attempted to force himself on Dixon." Dixon clearly told Perry 'No,' but was initially ignored until he was able to de-escalate the situation and change the subject, according to the lawsuit. The following day, Perry apologized, and told Dixon he would work with Dixon on a TV pilot Dixon was seeking to produce. Dixon later received a raise that the lawsuit suggests was part of an attempt to keep him quiet. He said the fear of his character dying kept him quiet as intended. Perry also produced and bought the rights to the pilot, called 'Losing It,' but the lawsuit alleges Perry had no intention of selling the show and was using it only for leverage over Dixon. The lawsuit describes several other assaults, including one where Dixon was staying in a guest room of Perry's house when Perry climbed into bed with him uninvited and began groping him, the lawsuit alleges. Dixon would eventually move from Atlanta, home to Perry's production studio, to Los Angeles to put distance between the two of them. Dixon in 2024 filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and when that didn't result in any action from the show's producers, he quit. The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been sexually abused unless they come forward publicly as Dixon has. 'The Oval' is one of many television series executive produced by, written by and directed by the 55-year-old Perry, who first became known as creator and star of the 'Madea' films and has since built a major production empire in TV and movies. As an actor he has also appeared in the films 'Gone Girl' and 'Don't Look Up.' © Copyright 2025 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
