Nelly and Ashanti 'hated' each other before reunion

Nelly and Ashanti "hated" each other before getting back together. The couple had an on-off relationship for over a decade from 2003 and they went on to reconcile in 2023, having son Kareem, aka KK, 10 months, and secretly getting married, but they admitted they never expected to reunite. In a trailer for their new reality show Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together, Ashanti, 44, said: "We were together off and on for 11 years, before the final..." Nelly quipped: "I hated her." His wife laughed: "I hated him. I didn't think that we would get back together." Hot in Herre hitmaker Nelly then smiled as he said: "She got me y'all." But Ashanti suggested she hadn't had to work hard to pursue the 50-year-old singer. She said: "He wanted to get got." The 44-year-old pop star previously admitted she was initially shocked that her feelings for Nelly had returned because she thought they had "gone" away after the end of their relationship the first time round. She told E! News: "It was, 'I can't believe these feelings came back. "That's what it was for me. When we first started talking and dating again it was like, 'Wait a minute, these feelings were gone. How did they creep back?" Ashanti also admitted she and Nelly - who has Chanelle, 30, and Cornell, 25, with Channetta Valentine and then adopted his sister's children after she passed away -are keen to have more children. She said: "I am feeling amazing, incredibly pleased, humbled. "My life has completely changed for the better. I feel full, you know? My cup is full. "We're going to add some more. Definitely a girl to balance it out. I'm outnumbered in the house right now. So, a girl would be great!" Meanwhile, Nelly revealed he married the Foolish hitmaker in December 2023 because she was pregnant. Speaking on The Bootleg Kev podcast, he said: "I was like, 'Yo, you know what? Let's just knock this [wedding] out because we're going to be doing so much and everything's moving so fast.' "I didn't want her to be a baby mama, you know what I mean? "Because we already knew where we were in life. If we're back like this, this must be what it's supposed to be." Ashanti and Nelly did not confirm that they had married until June 2024, and just over a month later, she gave birth to their son.

Kendrick Lamar wins big at 2025 BET Awards

Kendrick Lamar was the top winner at the BET Awards on Monday night, an awards ceremony honouring black actors, singers and sports stars. The 30 For 30 rapper won the best male hip-hop artist award, best album of the year and the video of the year award for Not Like Us. Lamar and filmmaker Dave Free also took home the video director of the year award at the event held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast on the BET cable channel. "BET has always made sure they're representing the culture right and always put me in the midst of the cycle of what we represent," Lamar said on stage when accepting his award. Host comedian Kevin Hart opened the ceremony by recognising the BET Awards' 25th anniversary and all of the "history that has been made" on the stage. The ceremony traversed the evolution of black music, starting with a performance by R&B artist Ashanti that featured a compilation of songs, including her 2002 song Foolish. Additional performances included other 2000s songs Ballin' by Mustard, 1 Thing by Amerie and Like You by Bow Wow. Hart led with jokes while also highlighting the BET Ultimate Icon Award winners of the night, including Kirk Franklin, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Snoop Dogg. The special award was given to those that have paid homage to music, entertainment, advocacy and community impact. Presented by Stevie Wonder, Foxx accepted his award and reflected on his recovery journey after having a stroke in 2023. "I have to be honest, when I saw the in memoriam, I was, 'Man, that could have been me,'" he said. Another honour included the best female hip-hop artist award for rising rapper Doechii. "(US President Donald) Trump is using military forces to stop protest," Doechii said in her acceptance speech. "I want y'all to consider what kind of government it appears to be, when every time we exercise our democratic rights to protest, the military is deployed against us." Reuters

Ashanti, Bow Wow, B2K lead 106 & Park tribute at 2025 BET Awards

The 2025 BET Awards featured a heartfelt tribute to BET's iconic music video countdown show, 106 & Park, with a nostalgic performance lineup that celebrated the program's lasting cultural influence. Ashanti performs "Happy", "Rock Wit U (Aww Baby)" & 'Foolish' at the 2025 #BETAwards — RNB RADAR (@RNB_RADAR) June 10, 2025 The tribute kicked off with former host Keshia Chanté introducing Ashanti—who made history as the first artist to have a video retired on the show. The R&B star performed a smooth medley of her early 2000s hits 'Happy' and 'Foolish,' drawing cheers from the crowd. Jim Jones followed with a high-energy rendition of his anthem 'Ballin',' setting the tone for Amerie's lively recreation of her '1 Thing' dance routine. Keeping the momentum going, Terrence J hit the stage to introduce Keyshia Cole. The singer delivered an emotional performance of 'I Should Have Cheated,' which had the entire crowd singing along. Mya continued the nostalgic wave with her 2000 hit 'Case of the Ex,' paired with a routine reminiscent of her original video. Shortly after, hosts Julissa Bermudez and Big Tigger brought out Atlanta legend T.I., who fired up the audience with a medley of his hits 'Bring Em Out' and 'What You Know.' Longtime co-host Free made a solo appearance, taking viewers back to 106 & Park's early years. She upped the excitement by reuniting all four members of B2K—Omarion, Lil Fizz, Raz B, and J-Boog—who performed their chart-topping hit 'Bump, Bump, Bump,' with Fizz handling Diddy's original verse. Finally, Mr. 106 & Park himself, Bow Wow, closed out the tribute with a string of fan favorites including 'Take Ya Home' and 'Like You.' He then brought out longtime collaborator Jermaine Dupri for a surprise finale performance of 'Fresh Azimiz.' Capping off the tribute, Cam Newton and Ashley Nicole Moss announced 106 & Sports, a new BET series inspired by the original countdown show, set to debut this fall.
