Tyler Perry sued by Derek Dixon for $260M over harassment, assault claims

Express Tribune4 days ago

Actor Derek Dixon, known for his roles on Tyler Perry's series Ruthless and The Oval, has filed a $260 million lawsuit against Tyler Perry, alleging sexual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation.
The complaint, lodged on June 13 in Los Angeles, accuses Perry of creating 'a coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic' during Dixon's tenure on the shows.
Dixon, who portrayed 'Dale' on The Oval, claims Perry promised career advancement—including producing Dixon's pilot and expanding creative opportunities—but retaliation ensued after Dixon rejected Perry's unwanted advances. The lawsuit describes incidents at Perry's home in January 2020, including alleged sexual assault, and similar behavior during a cast trip to the Bahamas in October 2020.
The complaint also asserts that Dixon's character arc was manipulated as leverage; Perry allegedly warned Dixon that his character's survival depended on granting compliance. At season's end, 'Dale' was shot four times in a cliffhanger, which Dixon interprets as a threat . Additional acts such as non-consensual groping in a trailer and at Perry's home are cited as further allegations.
Dixon asserts the stress led to serious health issues, including PTSD, prompting his medical provider to prescribe antidepressants. He left The Oval during the final season and lost nearly $400,000 in earnings.
In response, attorney Matthew Boyd called the lawsuit 'a scam,' stating, 'Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail'.
Dixon is suing for quid pro quo sexual harassment, assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and retaliation, and is seeking a jury trial. Neither BET nor Tyler Perry Studios have commented.

Fat Joe sued for $20M over alleged abuse and trafficking by former hypeman

Grammy-nominated rapper Fat Joe is facing a $20 million federal lawsuit filed by his former hypeman, Terrance 'T.A.' Dixon, alleging years of sexual abuse, coercion, and exploitation—including alleged involvement with underage girls. Filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the 157-page complaint accuses Fat Joe, born Joseph Antonio Cartagena, of 'coercive labor exploitation, financial fraud, sexual manipulation, and psychological control.' Dixon claims he was forced into over 4,000 sexual acts over a 16-year period under threats of abandonment, humiliation, and financial retaliation. The lawsuit further alleges Fat Joe engaged in sexual acts with minors as young as 15, flying them across state and international lines, and even funding plastic surgery for one girl. Dixon claims these abuses occurred with the knowledge of Fat Joe's associates and sometimes under surveillance or in corporate-owned properties, including yachts and mansions. Also named in the suit are Fat Joe's associates Pete 'Pistol Pete' Torres and Richard 'Rich Player' Jospitre, along with Roc Nation, which Dixon accuses of aiding in concealing royalty fraud and silencing his claims. The charges include violations under civil RICO, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, and various state laws. Fat Joe's attorney, Joe Tacopina, dismissed the lawsuit as a 'blatant act of retaliation,' claiming Dixon is attempting to deflect attention from a separate defamation lawsuit the rapper filed in April. Represented by attorney Tyrone Blackburn—also leading a high-profile case against Sean 'Diddy' Combs—Dixon insists he's seeking justice after years of abuse and suppression. This case could be one of the most serious and high-profile legal battles in the music industry to date.

Leanna Perry, New York-based artist, removed from airline after drunken altercation: Watch full incident

A woman who launched into a foul-mouthed tirade and physically assaulted a fellow passenger on a Southwest Airlines flight has been identified as Leanna Perry, a New York-based artist with a high-profile professional portfolio. The 32-year-old was forcibly removed from a Kansas City-bound flight at LaGuardia Airport on June 16 following an alcohol-fuelled outburst in which she allegedly spat on a fellow traveller, pulled her hair, and shouted obscenities about her appearance. Footage of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows Perry slurring her words, kicking at passengers and crew, and hurling abuse at a woman she mocked for her weight. At one point, she spat directly at the woman's face while being restrained by airline staff. 32-year-old NY resident Leanna Perry was reportedly might be time to stop servicing alcohol on planes.... — RubyTubee (@rubytubee) June 18, 2025 Perry was later escorted from the aircraft on a gurney and taken into custody by Port Authority police on suspicion of aggravated assault. She has not yet commented publicly. According to now-deleted social media accounts, Perry had worked with a number of high-profile companies including Maybelline, Adidas, MAC, and Hot Topic. According to Daily Mail, her professional website and LinkedIn page were taken offline shortly after her identity became public. In the videos, Perry can be heard repeatedly shouting slurs and making offensive remarks about race and appearance, even claiming her boyfriend was Black in a tirade laced with expletives and erratic movements. At one point, she fell to the floor yelling 'I can't breathe' before kicking at staff and fellow passengers. Despite several attempts to de-escalate the situation, Perry continued to resist restraint, mocking the physical appearance of the woman she attacked and screaming profanities until she was removed. The confrontation took place just before takeoff, prompting a delay as authorities responded to the disturbance. The flight eventually departed without Perry onboard. Born in Lee's Summit, Missouri, Perry currently resides in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She has previously attended New York Fashion Week and other high-profile art events in the city. Authorities have yet to confirm whether formal charges will be filed. The incident has sparked renewed concern about in-flight safety and the need for stricter airline protocols when dealing with aggressive behaviour.

Alleged Tyler Perry–Derek Dixon texts leak sparks controversy

Actor Derek Dixon filed a $260 million lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that filmmaker Tyler Perry subjected him to years of sexual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation. According to court documents, Perry allegedly abused his power by casting Dixon in Ruthless and The Oval, then escalating unwanted contact—from explicit texts to physical assaults—after Dixon resisted. This is shocking! An actor, Derek Dixon, has hit Tyler Perry with a huge lawsuit filled with claims of harassment and sexual assault. — Michelle (@Bigbrother_all) June 17, 2025 Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, screenshots of private text exchanges began circulating online. These messages, presented as evidence in the court filings, include highly charged content—such as, 'What's it going to take for you to have guiltless sex?'—which many are interpreting as suggestive of coercion. The timing of the leak—following public release of the legal complaint—has raised questions about whether it was an intentional move to sway public perception or intimidate involved parties. Legal observers note that leaking unverified private messages can expose both Perry and Dixon to additional legal risks, including allegations of defamation, privacy invasion, or tampering with ongoing litigation. Meanwhile, Perry's legal advisor Matthew Boyd continues to deny all accusations, branding the lawsuit a 'fabricated scam.' The controversy—combining a high-stakes legal claim with a leak of sensitive private messages—has ignited public and media debate about power, consent, and digital ethics in Hollywood. With both parties maintaining silence and the case still progressing, industry watchers and audiences alike remain alert for developments.
