'Legend' Muslera bids farewell to Galatasaray after 551 appearances
The Uruguayan, who turns 39 on June 16, told a press conference that he will play his 551st and final game for Galatasaray in Friday evening's Super Lig season-ender against Basaksehir.
"I'm going to continue playing, closer to my homeland... closer to my family," said Muslera, without specifying which league or club he would play for.
Since joining from Lazio, with whom he won the Coppa Italia, in 2011, Muslera has become the most capped foreign player in Galatasaray's history.
The Uruguayan has also won a joint-record eight league titles as well as six Turkish Super Cups and five Turkish Cups.
In a message on social networks, Galatasaray hailed their captain, a club "legend", saying he had become "much more than a goalkeeper".
Capped 133 times by Uruguay, he was starting keeper at the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups before dropping to the bench for the 2022 event in Qatar.

Sarri back at Lazio after 15-month break
"Maurizio Sarri has returned home." said club president Claudio Lotito on the Lazio web site. Sarri replaces Marco Baroni who stepped down as Lazio coach last Friday after failing to obtain European football for next season Baroni took over last summer 2024 after Lazio went through three coaches in a season: Sarri, Giovanni Martusciello and Igor Tudor. Sarri started his first stint at Lazio in the summer of 2021 and led them to a second place finish in Serie A in 2023. The 66-year-old hasn't coached since resigning as Lazio coach in March 2024. "His return is a choice of heart, conviction and vision," said Lotito. "With him we want to resume a path interrupted too soon, knowing that together we can bring back enthusiasm, identity and ambition. Welcome back to your home Commander." This is the 66-year-old Sarri's 20th head coaching appointment, although the first eight were at amateur level while he worked as a banker.
