Grief counselors at NH middle school after student dies in crash with stolen delivery vehicle
Grief councilors are being made available at a New Hampshire middle school after a boy was killed and a girl was seriously injured after police said they crashed a car they stole from a delivery driver.
The youths have not been identified. Manchester School District Superintendent Jennifer Chmiel on Wednesday confirmed one of the students, the boy who died, was a student in the school district.
'We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students, and our thoughts are with those impacted by this motor vehicle accident,' Chmiel said in a statement.
Chmiel said additional resources are being made available at the Southside Middle School in Manchester.
'In addition to our school based counseling teams, we have brought in additional community resources and grief counselors that will be available at the school,' Chmiel said.
'We encourage parents and students to reach out to a member of the Southside team if you have any questions or would like to access these resources,' said Chmiel, who also provided additional resources about grief on the school's website.
Early Wednesday morning, around 12:50 a.m., officers responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle in the area of 5 Clifford Ave., police said.
The victim, a food delivery driver, told officers he had briefly left his 2014 Toyota Corolla unattended. When he returned, the vehicle was gone.
About an hour later, officers spotted the Corolla in the area of Kenberma Street. The Corolla was traveling without headlights on. When police activated emergency lights and sirens, the driver behind the wheel drove away quickly.
Police pursued the Corolla and continued onto the highway, but stopped the chase after losing sight of the vehicle.
Around 2 a.m., state police found the car in the area of Route 101 westbound at the Kilton Road off-ramp in Bedford, where it had crashed.
The male driver, a juvenile, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A female passenger, also a juvenile, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries, Bedford police said. Her condition was not known on Wednesday.

Woman dies and nine others injured in M4 car crash
A woman in her 40s has died and nine other people have been injured after two cars crashed on the M4 motorway. A seven-seater Toyota Corolla and a Volkswagen Tiguan collided between junctions 16 and 17 on the motorway at around 11.30pm on Sunday, while there were reports that a third vehicle may have been involved, Wiltshire Police said. The woman, one of seven people travelling in the Toyota, died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed. A second woman, in her 50s, suffered serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening, the force said. The other five occupants of the car were treated for minor injuries. Pittsburgh police, other law enforcement agencies called to disperse large crowd on South Side
Pittsburgh police say they had to call in extra help from neighboring law enforcement agencies early Sunday morning to safely disperse a large crowd of people who had gathered on East Carson Street. No one was injured and no property was damaged, but before that, the South Side Entertainment Patrol made several arrests. Some were gun-related, others had to do with fights. Citations were given for public intoxication, underage drinking, and public urination. Big crowds on East Carson are nothing new at 2 a.m. for South Side neighbors. "I didn't bat an eyebrow about it," a resident who goes by Vinny said. Vinny says the crowds pick up each weekend after he and most others are already asleep, around the time bars close up. "It happens because everyone is intoxicated, everyone's drinking," he added. In Sunday's case, police had to call in help from surrounding departments to clear out what they estimated was a crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 people, with some of them fighting each other. Once help from other departments arrived, police were able to quickly clear the crowd, a statement from Pittsburgh Public Safety said. "It's a shame because this has been going on for five years. We know where and when it's happening, and the city can't stop it," said business owner Rich Cupka. "We have a lack of police. We're 150, 200 short." Cupka says the fact that the police couldn't clear the crowd on their own proves his point. "Law and order would take over if you had enough police to police the area," Cupka added. Then-Police Chief Larry Scirroto said in September 2024 that the problem on the South Side isn't due to a lack of officers, but rather bars aren't being held accountable. "I'm thankful that we have a level of cooperation to hold problematic business owners accountable," Scirotto said in September. "For far too long, some of the businesses over there, and there are just a few to be quite honest, that operate in a manner that they don't take accountability for the actions and behavior of their patrons, as if once those individuals get outside, it's the responsibility of the police and not the responsibility of the bar ownership to regulate the type of client they solicit and more importantly, their behavior." Cupka disagrees, saying that while certain bars are an issue, the lack of police is the main problem. "I don't see any relief in sight," Cupka said. On the weekends, 25 police officers are assigned to the South Side in addition to the 10 that are part of the Entertainment Patrol. Business owners say overall crime on the South Side is down, and Vinny believes the unfortunate reality is that the South Side has gotten a bad rap. "Everybody just have a drink. Come to the South Side. It's all good down here," he said, adding that visitors shouldn't let what happens late at night keep them from visiting.

Jacksonville police arrest 18-year-old man on murder charges following double shooting
Jacksonville police arrested an 18-year-old man following an early morning, double-fatal shooting at a Southside shopping center. Larry Allen Baldwin Jr. is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and is being held without bail at the Duval County detention center, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office inmate records. He is accused of shooting 19-year-old Rubisnney Giraldo-Mina and 41-year-old Larry Allen Baldwin Sr. at about 3:20 a.m. June 21, at the shopping center in the 9500 block of Baymeadows Road near Old Baymeadows Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office posted on its social media. Sheriff's Office patrol officers responding to gunfire found Giraldo-Mina and the elder Baldwin with gunshot wounds on the sidewalk at the shopping center. Both died at the scene, police said. Police detained Larry Allen Baldwin Jr. at the scene. He was arrested after homicide detectives "thoroughly interviewed Baldwin Jr. and investigated at the scene of the double shooting," the Sheriff's Office posted. Neither information about the possible relationship between the three men, nor the circumstances surrounding the double shooting was available immediately.
