JPJ Mulls Revoking MyLesen Licences Of Illegal Street Racers

BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is considering revoking the motorcycle licences of recipients under the MyLesen B2 programme who are found to be involved in illegal street racing (rempit) or other traffic offences.
Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said he has instructed the director of the Driver Licensing Division to look into the matter before any further action is taken.
He stressed that the government has allocated substantial funding for the programme to help the B40 group obtain Class B2 motorcycle licences, and thus recipients must comply with all road regulations.
'Recipients of this government-subsidised licence are recorded separately in JPJ's system as participants of the MyLesen programme. So, if they are stopped during inspections, action will be taken, up to and including revocation of their licence.
'If they want to reapply (for a licence), they will have to go through the driving institution or school, pay the fees, and retake the test from start to finish. I want to make that clear,' he told reporters after handing over the Penang-level MyLesen B2 programme licences here today.
Meanwhile, Aedy Fadly said the MyLesen programme has been expanded this year to include secondary school students, students from institutions of higher learning, and youths, reflecting the government's continued commitment to helping the B40 group obtain valid driving licences and thereby broaden their access to employment opportunities, particularly in the gig economy.
'To ensure the success of this programme, the government has allocated RM5.8 million this year to cover the full cost of training and licence issuance for 15,000 selected participants nationwide. In Penang alone, 993 individuals aged 16 and above are involved,' he said.

Seri Alam District Police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the police received a report from a 57-year-old local man on Tuesday, who claimed losses exceeding RM500,000. He said the victim had come across a share investment advertisement on Facebook on March 13 that promised lucrative returns within a short time, and clicked on the provided link out of interest. 'Subsequently, the victim made 26 payment transactions into five different bank accounts between March 13 and June 5, totalling RM535,766. The victim was also asked to make additional payments to withdraw the so-called 'investment profits', but those requests were never fulfilled,' he said in a statement today. Mohd Sohaimi said the victim only realised he had been duped after repeated attempts to recover the investment funds proved futile. 'Preliminary checks via the CCID's 'Semak Mule' platform found that all five accounts involved had a total of 22 police reports linked to investment scams,' he said. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and police are also looking into the possible involvement of mule account holders. — Bernama

Police On Manhunt For Three Suspects In Teluk Intan Armed Robbery

IPOH, June 21 (Bernama) -- Police have mounted a manhunt for three male suspects involved in an armed robbery at an entertainment outlet along Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, on June 15. Hilir Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said one of the suspects has been identified as a 37-year-old local man with a prior criminal record. 'This suspect has also been placed on the wanted list, and efforts to track down all three individuals are being intensified,' he said in a statement today. He added that the Forensic Unit from the Perak contingent police headquarters (IPK) visited the scene and collected several pieces of evidence, including bloodstains, two fingerprints, broken glass fragments, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage. Earlier, a 30-second video went viral on social media, showing three masked men exiting a Honda car and brandishing machetes at individuals at an entertainment outlet. Bakri said a police report on the incident was lodged at 1.02 am on June 15 at the Hilir Perak district police headquarters by a 42-year-old security guard employed at the premises. He said that the three suspects had stormed into the premises, damaged property, and fled with an iPhone 14 Pro belonging to an employee, along with RM2,000 in cash taken from the counter. He added that the suspects also injured two customers with the machetes and smashed the windows of four vehicles parked near the premises. Police have opened an investigation paper under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for armed robbery and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief involving damage to public property.

Police nab man who drove off with special needs girl in Penaga

KEPALA BATAS: Police have arrested a man who fled in a vehicle with a 12-year-old special needs girl in Penaga on Friday (June 20). Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said the incident occurred around 5.30pm when the girl's mother had gone to her husband's workshop to deliver engine oil, leaving her daughter in the car with the engine still running. "However, when the woman, who is in her 40s, returned to the vehicle, she discovered that both the car and her daughter were missing. She then used a location tracking app to locate her phone, which was with her daughter, and found it was in the Bagan Lalang area of Butterworth," he said in a statement on Saturday (June 21). He added that based on this information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seberang Perai Utara district police headquarters, together with personnel from the Butterworth police station, managed to arrest a suspect and recover both the victim and the vehicle. He said checks revealed that the suspect, who is in his 60s, has a criminal record with seven cases and 11 drug-related cases. "The victim is in good condition and did not sustain any injuries. She was taken to Kepala Batas Hospital for a medical examination," he added. Anuar said that further investigations are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Sections 379A and 363 of the Penal Code.
