Gerik bus crash: JPJ finalising probe into company operator
BUTTERWORTH: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is finalising its investigation for action to be taken in court against the bus company operator involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the investigation papers would be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon to decide on the charge. "There are two investigation papers that we are preparing, against the company operator and also the company that leased the bus. We expect to hand them over to the prosecution soon," he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Handover Ceremony here on Friday (June 20). Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had said that the JPJ would open an investigation paper against the bus company involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students due to the company's failure to operate according to the stipulated rules and regulations. Regarding the allegation that the JPJ could not record the bus company operator's statement because he suffered a heart attack, Aedy Fadly said they were not told about the matter. "It has nothing to do with the JPJ and I have not received any reports saying otherwise. We will still take action. If he goes to the hospital, we will wait," he said. In the June 9 incident, 15 UPSI students died when the bus they were in overturned in an accident at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik. The bus carrying 42 university students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak when it collided with a multi-purpose vehicle before overturning. – Bernama

JPJ Mulls Revoking MyLesen Licences Of Illegal Street Racers
CRIME & COURTS BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is considering revoking the motorcycle licences of recipients under the MyLesen B2 programme who are found to be involved in illegal street racing (rempit) or other traffic offences. Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said he has instructed the director of the Driver Licensing Division to look into the matter before any further action is taken. He stressed that the government has allocated substantial funding for the programme to help the B40 group obtain Class B2 motorcycle licences, and thus recipients must comply with all road regulations. 'Recipients of this government-subsidised licence are recorded separately in JPJ's system as participants of the MyLesen programme. So, if they are stopped during inspections, action will be taken, up to and including revocation of their licence. 'If they want to reapply (for a licence), they will have to go through the driving institution or school, pay the fees, and retake the test from start to finish. I want to make that clear,' he told reporters after handing over the Penang-level MyLesen B2 programme licences here today. Meanwhile, Aedy Fadly said the MyLesen programme has been expanded this year to include secondary school students, students from institutions of higher learning, and youths, reflecting the government's continued commitment to helping the B40 group obtain valid driving licences and thereby broaden their access to employment opportunities, particularly in the gig economy. 'To ensure the success of this programme, the government has allocated RM5.8 million this year to cover the full cost of training and licence issuance for 15,000 selected participants nationwide. In Penang alone, 993 individuals aged 16 and above are involved,' he said. -- BERNAMA

JPJ clamps down on officers failing to declare asset disposals, warns disciplinary action
KANGAR, May 31 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will take action against officers who fail to declare disposal of assets in its human resource management information system (HRMIS), if non-compliance is confirmed. Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the issue of non-compliance will be brought before the disciplinary committee once it is proven that such an element exists, based on findings from the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission's (EAIC) investigation. 'We will review the investigation report and take the necessary action. If our review confirms non-compliance with civil service regulations, we will refer the matter to the disciplinary committee,' he told a press conference after launching the MyLesen B2 programme here yesterday. Earlier yesterday, the media reported that the EAIC had found JPJ officers to have failed to update and declare asset disposals in the HRMIS. The report also stated that EAIC had received a complaint against the Kuala Lumpur JPJ involving several vehicle registration numbers. On the MyLesen B2 programme in Perlis, Aedy Fadly said a total of 800 individuals from the B40 group successfully obtained motorcycle licences for free through the programme, with more than 80 per cent being school students. 'We received 1,200 applications in Perlis and 800 of them have passed the test,' he said. — Bernama
