JPJ to audit 500 bus and lorry operators from June 23 in special ops
BUTTERWORTH: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will audit 500 operators of public service vehicles (PSV) and high-risk goods commercial vehicles (GCV) through the nationwide JPJ Inspection and Safety Audit special operation, starting Monday (June 23). JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the operation was ordered by Transport Minister Anthony Loke to investigate operators to ensure compliance with the audit process stipulated under the Land Public Transport Act. He said the main focus of the operation is to assess the company's compliance level with safety aspects, vehicle maintenance, driver management and compliance records under the Road Transport Act 1987 and related regulations. "It involves the implementation of safety inspection and audit reports that focus on compliance with the industrial code of practice regarding safety in the transportation industry. "Additionally, there will be the review and resolution of outstanding issues for vehicle owners and drivers, as well as compliance with the vehicle technical plan," he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Programme 2025 presentation ceremony here on Friday (June 20). Aedy Fadly emphasised that the action was taken following the recent frequent accidents involving heavy vehicles, including the bus crash that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students on June 9. Commenting further, he said his team had also identified the list of involved companies obtained from Apad and JPJ list through a review of outstanding summonses. "Based on statistics, the JPJ has identified a category of high-risk operators, which includes 300 lorries, 100 tour buses and 100 express buses," he said. He added that strict action would be taken against any operator found to be violating regulations or neglecting safety aspects, including issuing notices of violation, suspension, or cancellation of vocational driving licenses or company operator licences. – Bernama

Gerik crash: JPJ finalising investigation for legal action against bus company operator
BUTTERWORTH: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is finalising the investigation papers for action to be taken in court against the bus company operator involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the investigation is now in the final stages before being handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor to decide on the charge recommendation. 'There are two investigation papers that we are preparing (to take action) against the company operator and also the company that leased the bus. 'The investigation papers are still at the JPJ level and we expect to hand them over to the prosecution soon,' he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Handover Ceremony here today. Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had said that the JPJ would open an investigation paper against the bus company involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students due to the company's failure to operate according to the stipulated rules and regulations. Regarding the allegation that the JPJ could not record the bus company's operator's statement because he suffered a heart attack, Aedy Fadly said his side was not informed about the matter. 'He (the bus operator) had a heart attack, it has nothing to do with the JPJ and I have not received any reports saying otherwise. We will still take action; if he goes to the hospital we will wait,' he added. In the incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when the bus they were in overturned in an accident at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik. The bus carrying 42 university students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak when it collided with a Perodua Alza before overturning.

JPJ Mulls Revoking MyLesen Licences Of Illegal Street Racers
CRIME & COURTS BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is considering revoking the motorcycle licences of recipients under the MyLesen B2 programme who are found to be involved in illegal street racing (rempit) or other traffic offences. Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said he has instructed the director of the Driver Licensing Division to look into the matter before any further action is taken. He stressed that the government has allocated substantial funding for the programme to help the B40 group obtain Class B2 motorcycle licences, and thus recipients must comply with all road regulations. 'Recipients of this government-subsidised licence are recorded separately in JPJ's system as participants of the MyLesen programme. So, if they are stopped during inspections, action will be taken, up to and including revocation of their licence. 'If they want to reapply (for a licence), they will have to go through the driving institution or school, pay the fees, and retake the test from start to finish. I want to make that clear,' he told reporters after handing over the Penang-level MyLesen B2 programme licences here today. Meanwhile, Aedy Fadly said the MyLesen programme has been expanded this year to include secondary school students, students from institutions of higher learning, and youths, reflecting the government's continued commitment to helping the B40 group obtain valid driving licences and thereby broaden their access to employment opportunities, particularly in the gig economy. 'To ensure the success of this programme, the government has allocated RM5.8 million this year to cover the full cost of training and licence issuance for 15,000 selected participants nationwide. In Penang alone, 993 individuals aged 16 and above are involved,' he said. -- BERNAMA
