According to a Deadline report, this new screen project will dig deep into the rise and reign of the global pop icon—separate from the previously shelved biopic that was once in the works under Universal Pictures.
From a scrapped biopic to new beginnings
Fans may remember that a Madonna feature film was originally planned by Universal with Julia Garner expected to play the lead. That project, however, was dropped in early 2023 after Madonna paused development to focus on her Celebration Tour. Despite shelving the film, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Madonna had already co-written two drafts of the script and had expressed her determination to share her life story with the world 'someday.'
Shawn Levy joins hands with the pop legend
The new limited series marks a significant collaboration between Madonna and acclaimed producer-director Shawn Levy. Levy, known for his work on 'Stranger Things,' 'The Adam Project' and 'All The Light We Cannot See' is reportedly producing the series through his company, 21 Laps Entertainment, which has an exclusive content deal with the streaming giant. As per Deadline, the extent of Madonna's involvement in the creative process of this new series remains unclear, but the potential is enormous.

He revealed that the conversation not only deepened his understanding of Nehru's role in Milkha's life but also helped him bring authenticity to his performance on screen. Dalip, who played a small yet impactful role in the Farhan Akhtar-starrer, shared that he had specifically asked the film's team to arrange a meeting with Milkha Singh. 'He was the only one among us who had actually met Jawaharlal Nehru,' Dalip said in an interview with Red FM, adding that hearing directly from Milkha would help him better embody the late Prime Minister's persona.
