Nicki Minaj Loses Out On A New No. 1 To Her ‘America Idol' Rival

Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne's "Banned From NO" hits No. 1 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart but is ... More blocked from the top spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop list by Mariah Carey. PASADENA, CA - JANUARY 08: (L-R) Judges Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj of "American Idol" speak onstage during the FOX portion of the 2013 Winter TCA Tour at Langham Hotel on January 8, 2013 in Pasadena, California. (Photo by Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images) Nicki Minaj makes a somewhat surprising return to the No. 1 spot on a single Billboard ranking this week. The celebrated rapper joined her longtime friend and collaborator Lil Wayne on a remix of his track "Banned From NO," taken from his new album Tha Carter VI. Once Minaj hopped on the updated version of what was originally a solo cut, it became a strong seller. Thanks to her massive and dedicated fanbase, the tune leads one tally — though it narrowly misses out on ruling another list, edged out by a fellow female powerhouse who was once seen as a true rival. Nicki Minaj Loses No. 1 to Mariah Carey "Banned From NO" opens in the runner-up space on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart this frame. It just misses giving both Minaj and Wayne another chart-topper, as "Type Dangerous," Mariah Carey's new single, starts at No. 1. Minaj and Carey served as judges on American Idol together during the twelfth season of the reality series, which began in January 2013. It was the only time the two sat on the judging panel simultaneously. The season was marked by numerous on-air spats between the two stars. They traded barbs both on camera and in the press for years afterward, and there was clearly tension between them. More than a decade has passed since that very public feud, and while they almost never mention each other anymore, it appears they still find themselves in competition on the charts from time to time. Mariah Carey Still Trails Nicki Minaj Carey may win the race to No. 1 this frame on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, but Minaj remains far more successful overall. As "Type Dangerous" arrives, it becomes Carey's third No. 1 and her seventh top 10 on the list of the bestselling R&B, hip-hop, or rap tracks in America. Minaj, by comparison, has earned 27 No. 1s. As "Banned From NO" debuts, it becomes her one-hundred-and-sixth top 10 smash. To put their chart histories into perspective: Minaj has more No. 1s on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales ranking than Carey has total appearances, as "Type Dangerous" is just her twenty-sixth showing. Nicki Minaj Does Hit No. 1 on Other Charts "Banned From NO" does manage to open atop the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, a list for which "Type Dangerous" was not eligible. It also enters the all-genre Digital Song Sales ranking at No. 5 — just one space below Carey's new tune. According to Luminate, the tracks were separated by fewer than 100 purchases.

Lil Wayne's 15-Year-Old Son Scores His First Chart Hit

Lil Wayne debuts 17 tracks from Tha Carter VI on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, including ... More a father-son collab with Kameron Carter titled "Rari." DALLAS, TEXAS - MAY 26: Lil Wayne performs onstage during Night 2 of the TwoGether Land Music Festival at Fair Park on May 26, 2024 in Dallas, Texas. (Photo by) Lil Wayne is having another big week on the charts in the United States. His new album Tha Carter VI, debuts at No. 1 on a number of Billboard rankings, and he invades several of the hip-hop and rap-focused tallies with multiple tracks from the full-length. This is not an unusual performance for one of the biggest stars to ever rap, but this latest slew of smashers may be special to the Grammy winner, as he's made his newest effort a family affair. Kameron Carter Scores His First Billboard Hit Kameron Carter, Wayne's son, earns what appears to be his first Billboard hit this week. The 15-year-old, whose mother is actress Lauren London, collaborates with his father on the track 'Rari.' The Tha Carter VI album cut opens at No. 47 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, which ranks the most consumed tunes in those styles across the U.S., blending sales and streaming data as well as radio airplay. Lil Wayne Floods the Charts With Tha Carter VI Carter may only be credited on one track, but Wayne lands 17 new hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this week, all taken from Tha Carter VI. The rapper didn't push any singles from the full-length before dropping the project in full, so excitement around these tunes is especially high at the moment. Lil Wayne Extends His Impressive Chart History Throughout his career, Wayne has collected an incredible 234 hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Included in that massive number are 53 top 10s — a figure he adds to with just one track this frame, as the aptly titled 'Hip-Hop,' a collaboration with BigXthaPlug and Jay Jones, opens at No. 8. He's also landed an even dozen champions thus far.

Andrea Bocelli Charts One Of The Biggest Hip-Hop Songs In America

Andrea Bocelli debuts on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for the first time with 'Maria,' a ... More Lil Wayne and Wyclef Jean track that samples his 'Ave Maria.' SEVILLE, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 16: Andrea Bocelli performs onstage during The 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards on November 16, 2023 in Seville, Spain. (Photo byfor Latin Recording Academy) Andrea Bocelli is a fixture on a handful of Billboard rankings, as his name can almost always be found on several classical-focused lists. The superstar performer is considered one of the most celebrated voices in history, and his fanbase remains massive, even after decades in the spotlight. Bocelli's musical output has primarily focused on just a few styles, but this week, he scores a rare hit song in America, one that takes him to a Billboard tally that's rather surprising, given his body of work. Andrea Bocelli Joins Lil Wayne and Wyclef Jean On the current edition of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, Bocelli earns his first career appearance. He joins Lil Wayne and Wyclef Jean on "Maria," which launches at No. 46 on the 50-spot ranking of the most consumed tracks in America that fall under the genre labels hip-hop, rap, or R&B. Bocelli is credited as a featured artist on "Maria," even though he didn't record new vocals for the track. Instead, the song contains a sample of the crooner performing the classic "Ave Maria," which plays in the background and forms part of the beat. Lil Wayne and Wyclef Jean Are Not New Bocelli may be brand new to the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but both Wayne and Jean have found their way to this ranking before. Thanks to a slew of new arrivals from tracks featured on his latest album Tha Carter VI – including 'Maria' – Wayne ups his career total placements to 234. Jean has earned just 19 stays on the tally, including multiple entries that appeared when the roster featured 100 spaces instead of the 50 it does these days. Andrea Bocelli Nearly Returns to No. 1 As he earns his first hip-hop hit in America, Bocelli almost returns to No. 1 on a pair of Billboard charts. Duets: 30th Anniversary holds in the runner-up space on both the Classical Albums and Classical Crossover Albums tallies. That collection has already ruled those lists in the past, and it has now spent 33 frames on the two.
