U2's Frontman Scores His First Rap Hit Alongside A Hip-Hop Legend
Lil Wayne's 'The Days' featuring Bono debuts at No. 21 on the Hot Rap Songs chart, marking the U2 ... More singer's first-ever appearance on the tally. CANNES, FRANCE - MAY 17: Bono during the "Bono: Stories Of Surrender" photocall at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals on May 17, 2025 in Cannes, France. (Photo by) Lil Wayne invades Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart this week with tunes from his new album, Tha Carter VI. The hip-hop superstar is no stranger to appearing on the tally, which ranks the most consumed rap tracks throughout the United States — especially whenever fans flock to one project or another all at once. Wayne is joined on several tracks by a handful of collaborators, including one who has never scored a rap hit in America before: Bono. The U2 frontman appears on Wayne's tune 'The Days,' featured on Tha Carter VI, which earns him something of a surprise win. 'The Days' opens at No. 21 on the Hot Rap Songs chart this frame. Unsurprisingly, Bono collects his first win on the genre-specific list, as he's not exactly known for his output in the rap space. While his featured guest spot on 'The Days' may bring Bono to the Hot Rap Songs ranking for the first time, Wayne has already collected triple-digit placements on the roster. With a slew of new arrivals this week, the powerhouse rapper ups his career total to 125 appearances on the Hot Rap Songs chart. That roundup includes 59 top 10s and a dozen No. 1s. He adds to his array of top 10 smashes this week, though he doesn't quite manage to lead the charge. 'The Days' earns the tenth loftiest debut on the Hot Rap Songs chart, with many of the tunes that open above it coming from Wayne's Tha Carter VI, while GloRilla's 'Typa' also breaks in at No. 6. Nearly half of all 25 spaces on the tally this time around are filled by debuts — and all but one are by Wayne. Bono earns his first career hit as a soloist on the Hot Rap Songs chart and his second honor on a related list, the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. 'The Days' opens at No. 29 on that roster, marking his return to the ranking for the first time in a quarter-century. The U2 singer-songwriter first reached the chart of the most popular R&B, hip-hop, and rap tracks with 'Lean on Me,' a collaboration by Kirk Franklin that also credited Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Crystal Lewis and the Family. That tune peaked at No. 26 in early 1999. 'The Days' also opens on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, which serves as an extension of the main Hot 100 for tunes that didn't quite break onto the most competitive ranking. Bono and Wayne start their collaboration at No. 12 on that list, missing the Hot 100 by a relatively small number of spots.

Lil Wayne's ‘Tha Carter VI' debuts at No. 2 on Billboard 200 while Morgan Wallen holds No. 1 spot
Lil Wayne gave fans a full-course meal with Tha Carter VI. Deluxe tracks, signed CDs, and an evolution of that Hot Boy sound that's kept him in the conversation for decades. But even with all that momentum, the album still couldn't snatch the top spot on the Billboard 200. Trending Shannon Sharpe apologizes to Nicki Minaj after past comment sparks diss track response Fathers and their daughters: Check out 13 Hip Hop girl dads Check out the must-see performances from the 2025 BET Awards According to Billboard, Tha Carter VI debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 108,000 equivalent album units sold. That includes 73,000 streaming-equivalent units and 1,000 in track-equivalent units. These streaming numbers show that Lil Wayne's digital reach in 2025 is still unmatched, proving his legacy continues to thrive in the streaming era. So, who held Wayne off? None other than Morgan Wallen. His latest release, I'm the Problem, held steady at No. 1 for another week with 209,000 units through June 12. That's right, Wallen's country-pop grip on the charts hasn't let up, even with Wayne applying serious pressure. Tha Carter VI still marks another strong entry in Wayne's legacy. It extends his run of Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 to 13. And while the No. 2 debut might sting for longtime fans expecting a chart takeover, the numbers show just how locked in his fan base still is. The album came with plenty of buzz, boosted by collaborations, a deluxe edition with two bonus tracks, and limited signed physical copies that collectors surely chased. It's Wayne's first studio album since 2020's Funeral, which opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This time around, though, the competition was tighter. Regardless, the impact is definitely there. Wayne's rollout gave veteran energy with modern reach, showing that even after 20+ years in the game, he's still charting high and drawing real attention from old fans and new listeners alike. Wallen may have kept the crown this week, but Tha Carter VI proved Lil Wayne's reign is far from over. Nicki Minaj Makes History With Her Brand New Top 10 Bestseller
Nicki Minaj ranks among the most successful hip-hop artists of all time, but she stands apart from many of her contemporaries in one important way. She consistently sells individual songs in addition to seeing her catalog perform spectacularly on streaming platforms. While most of the biggest names in rap focus on racking up huge numbers on sites like Spotify and Apple Music, Minaj remains a relatively rare force when it comes to digital sales as well. Minaj's fans have demonstrated time and again that they are willing to purchase her tracks – all of them, seemingly no matter what. The continued buying habits of the Barbz — the name associated with her fanbase — helps the rapper make history this week as she scores a brand new hit. Minaj recently joined Lil Wayne on a remix of his tune "Banned From NO," a track featured on his latest album Tha Carter VI. Initially released as a solo affair, the cut was later updated to include her vocals as well. The duet arrived on streaming platforms and digital storefronts just days after the original, and Minaj's following reacted quickly. This week, "Banned From NO" debuts at No. 1 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart. As it lands, Minaj collects her twenty-fourth No. 1 and, perhaps more notably, her milestone one hundredth top 10 smash on the list of the bestselling rap-only tracks in the United States. Minaj is now one of a very select few artists to rack up triple-digit placements inside the top 10 on the Rap Digital Song Sales tally. In fact, she may be only the second act to do so. Drake, a frequent collaborator, has so far scored 135 placements between Nos. 1 and 10 on the tally, which previously featured more than 10 spaces, but which was shortened several years ago. Several other superstars may reach 100 top 10s on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart in the coming years, but they still have a ways to go. Eminem is up to 77 such wins, while Lil Wayne collects his seventy-fifth as "Banned From NO" arrives. Kanye West, now known simply as Ye, has also surpassed the 50 top 10s milestone, with a total of 53 such smashes in his catalog. Other well-known figures in the industry haven't even claimed half of 100 yet. "Banned From NO" launches atop the Rap Digital Song Sales chart with 5,000 pure purchases, according to Luminate. The track, as a duet, also reaches a trio of purchase-only tallies, opening inside the top five on all three simultaneously.

Lil Wayne Reaches A New Career Low With His Latest Album
Lil Wayne's Tha Carter VI debuts at No. 5 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart but lands as ... More his lowest-peaking U.K. album on multiple other rankings. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 09: Lil Wayne performs onstage during the 2025 BET Awards at Peacock Theater on June 09, 2025 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo byfor BET) Lil Wayne remains one of the biggest names in hip-hop, even if he doesn't always hit it big with new projects. The rapper's latest album Tha Carter VI earns a lackluster debut on several charts in the United Kingdom this week. The collection wasn't preceded by any major singles, and it seems that Wayne's name alone wasn't enough to propel it toward a strong starting position on every tally. In fact, the sixth installment in his Tha Carter series now stands as the hip-hop superstar's lowest-charting title on a number of rosters. Tha Carter VI debuts on seven lists in the U.K. this week, and it ranks as Wayne's lowest-peaking effort on about half of them. The project lands its least impressive start on the Official Albums Streaming chart, where it settles in second-to-last place, at No. 99. Wayne has earned three placements on the streaming-only tally in the past, with Tha Carter V hitting No. 1 and Funeral spending one week at No. 43 back in 2020 when it was new – so his latest effort really pales in comparison. Tha Carter VI also marks Wayne's lowest peak on both the Official Albums chart — the main ranking of the most consumed projects in the country — and the Official Albums Sales list. It starts at No. 77 on the former, sadly falling short of the No. 61 high point that Funeral reached in February 2020. Wayne doubles his total number of appearances on the ranking of the bestselling releases in the U.K. as Tha Carter VI opens at No. 53. That's a far cry from the No. 25 peak that the fifth installment in the series managed in 2018. It's not all bad news for Wayne this week in the U.K., though. Tha Carter VI earns the rapper his first win on the Official Vinyl Albums chart, where it starts at No. 28. He also opens inside the top 10 on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Albums chart, scoring his seventh appearance inside that region as Tha Carter VI kicks off its time at No. 5.
