Is Che in ‘And Just Like That' Season 3? Sara Ramirez's Character's Fate After Dramatic Season 2
Miranda Hobbes experienced both love and heartbreak in the Sex and the City spinoff, And Just Like That…, and her relationship with Che Diaz certainly had its highs and lows. Is Sara Ramirez's character in season 3 of the show?
It was reported by multiple outlets in February 2024 that Sara's character was not returning for season 3 of And Just Like That… after two seasons on the show.
Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, spoke out on Che's exit from the show one year ahead of the season 3 premiere in May 2025.
"I think for Miranda, Miranda and Che were really pretty done," Cynthia told Entertainment Weekly in May 2024. "I think that Miranda and Che had kind of run the gamut of what they were going to be to each other."
Cynthia echoed a similar stance while speaking with Variety that same month.
'I do feel like our show always works best when people are dating,' she said.
'They created such an amazing character — such a controversial character, but such an amazing character,' she said, referring to the character of Che. 'I think they felt, and Michael Patrick [King] felt, that that character had run its course. They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed.'
The Emmy winner said that she understood that a lot of people were upset with the arc of Steve's character, Miranda's husband, whom she left and got back together with in the first Sex and the City film. In And Just Like That… their relationship came crumbling apart when Miranda met Che and began an affair.
While speaking with Grazia in May 2025, Cynthia said that the ''poor Steve' narrative doesn't really bother me. Our show always killed its darlings. If we're just gonna play it safe and nice, why are you watching?'
Cynthia revealed that she suggested Sara, who uses they/them pronouns, for the role of Che.
'I love Che, I love Sara. It's hard to know what people would have made of Che if Che hadn't ostensibly broken up Steve and Miranda,' she noted. 'But I don't want a show in which everybody is behaving well all the time. A feminist show doesn't show women being perfect.'
Miranda and Che ended up breaking up after their toxic romance hit its breaking point in season 2 of And Just Like That… Their romance was plagued by bickering and tension as Che's TV pilot ended up failing.
'I think for Che, there's an incremental ego death process that is occurring over time, with the failure of the pilot, with all of the projections that they internalized during that process, with all the questioning they've been doing,' Sara told TVLine in July 2023. 'I don't think they have the capacity to keep the wheels on the car any longer. They don't have the capacity to continue this fantasy of a bubble of love and friendship and affirmation.'
Cynthia revealed that in season 3, Miranda would be embracing her single era.
'Both the old show and the new show are more fun when people are dating, so Miranda will be dating,' she said.

Our awards columnist's Emmy ballot: Read his list of dream nominees
Emmy nominations voting ends tonight at 10 p.m. PT. Still need help with your ballot? I'm Glenn Whipp, columnist for the Los Angeles Times and host of The Envelope newsletter. Still time to bite into a 'Jaws' doughnut and peruse my picks for this year's Emmy races. (An ordinary bagel will do.) There are more than 100 Emmy categories, and if you scrolled through each and every one of them on the Television Academy's website, you are probably one of those people who read the terms and conditions on a document before signing your name. For me, simply filling out the following 15 categories — five each for comedy, drama and limited series — left me exhausted and in need of a sweet treat. And I already finished my 'Jaws' doughnut. Maybe this cherries jubilee? Paul Giamatti would approve. Without further ado, here are my picks and a brief line of reasoning for each. And if it's predictions you're after, you can find our full BuzzMeter panel's choices here. Peyton and Cane Spoilers The Waterfront Season 2
A new addictive Netflix show just landed in our laps for summer. And by "summer" I mean literally one day because that's all it takes to binge the entire thing. Welcome to The Waterfront, which is basically Yellowstone meets Outer Banks. The show follows a wealthy family trying to manage their floundering (heh) fishing business and casual drug ring, and every episode is packed with action and drama. But we're specifically here to discuss Cane and Peyton, because their vibe in the season finale was weird to say the least. Quick recap: Cane cheats on Peyton with his high school sweetheart Jenna, she finds out, and—after confronting and immediately forgiving Jenna—tells Cane in the most ominous way possible, "Everything's fine. You and me. We're fine. I'm gonna see to it." Like, not exactly a normal way to react to your husband's announcement that he's cheated on you and is dealing heroin. So, what comes next? Series creator Kevin Williamson tells Variety that Peyton could become one to watch next season: "I think Peyton is a power player," he said. "She knows what she wants, and she's going to get it. She had that moment where she could run, she could leave, and she almost does. But I think she has a better plan. She loves this man, and they say you can't change someone. Well, we're gonna watch her do it." Cannot! Wait!
