Melissa Rauch Opens Up About Night Court Cancellation as Revival Fails to Find New Home: I Was in ‘Straight-Up Denial'

Some six weeks after NBC handed down its verdict to not renew its Night Court revival for a fourth season, series co-lead and executive producer Melissa Rauch has shared her thoughts on hanging up Judge Abby Stone's robe. As TVLine's Inside Line column reported earlier this month, early efforts to shop the sitcom revival had come up empty. As such, the eventual outlook was not looking great. And now it is official. Law & Orderverse Dream Team Results: The Cops and Lawyers You Want on Your Perfect Squad Casting News: Outlander Star Joins The Forsytes, Rings of Power Adds Trio and More 'I have held off on posting anything about Night Court not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it,' Rauch began a lengthy Instagram post, shared Wednesday. 'Perhaps it was being raised on The Goonies' 'Never Say Die' motto or straight up denial that I didn't want this incredibly special experience to come to an end. 'That said, after turning over all the stones there were to be turned over, we've learned that it is officially the hour to say 'farewell,'' she continued. 'Or at least 'Until next time.'' A continuation of the 1984-92 courtroom comedy led by the late Harry Anderson and five-time Emmy winner John Larroquette, NBC's revival starred Big Bang Theory alum Rauch as Abby Stone, who presided over the same New York City night court as her late father Harry. Larroquette reprised his role as attorney Dan Fielding, who served as the night court's public defender. The supporting cast included Lacretta as bailiff Gurgs, Nyambi Nyambi as court clerk Wyatt and sitcom vet Wendie Malick, who joined the cast full-time in Season 3 as new prosecutor Julianne. Warfield, who played Roz on the original Night Court, occasionally reprised her role as well. Viewership for the revival slipped 36% in Season 3, to an average of 1.95 million per episode. Among all NBC scripted shows, it only outdrew freshmen Suits LA (cancelled) and Grosse Pointe Garden Society (ostensibly still in limbo). 'As a kid whose best friend was TV, getting to play make believe with comedy legends on the recreation of a set I watched as a little girl felt like stepping through the looking glass in the best possible way,' Rauch said. 'Walking through those iconic halls. Sitting at the cafeteria tables with the chairs from the original. Feeling the electricity from the live studio audience on a tape night while doing a courtroom scene surrounded by a brilliant, powerhouse group of actors, phenomenally gifted writers and the best crew in the biz. It all felt exceptionally dream-like.' In conclusion, Rauch wrote, 'I was told that the original creator of Night Court, the great Reinhold Weege, said that the courtroom doors were key to the show's engine as they ushered in endless stories. And I like to think that's how Night Court carries on. Just as it did in the 30 years between the first incarnation ending and us beginning. The evergreen revolving door of oddballs and cynics populating that Manhattan arraignment court in the wee hours of the night and at the center of it all a workplace family that will forever be… until next time.' Tyler Perry Accused of Sexual Assault and Harassment by The Oval Actor Derek Dixon in New Lawsuit

Tyler Perry is being accused of sexual harassment and assault by an actor on his hit BET show The Oval, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on June 13. Derek Dixon, who has appeared as Dale in more than 80 episodes of the White House-centric soap, is seeking $260 million in punitive damages against Perry, who serves as The Oval's creator, writer, director and executive producer. 'This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,' Perry's attorney Matthew Boyd told our sister site Variety in a statement. 'But Tyler will not be shaken down and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail.' According to Dixon, the harassment began shortly after he met Perry while working for an event company that organized a party for one of Perry's projects in 2019. This meeting led to Dixon appearing in several episodes of The Oval spinoff Ruthless, before having his character transferred over to the flagship series. In the suit, Dixon recalls staying at Perry's Atlanta home in 2020. According to documents, Dixon was too inebriated to drive home, so Perry offered to let him stay in a guest room. Perry allegedly followed Dixon into bed and began touching him suggestively, at which point Dixon says he jumped out of bed and made it clear that he 'was not into sex.' In one text exchange, Perry allegedly asks Dixon what it's going to take for him to have 'guiltless sex.' When Dixon says he has 'religious guilt,' Perry supposedly replies, 'I have friends in their 50s and 60s who are still dealing with that and it's so sad. You can … have freedom from religious guilt and still believe in Christ.' But Dixon's allegations aren't limited to his own experiences with Perry. The suit claims that Perry 'has been using his power and influence to molest, abuse, and sexually assault impressionable and vulnerable employees and actors who look to him for guidance and mentorship while pursuing their dreams,' likening him to Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and even Sean 'Diddy' Combs. Land of the Lost Reboot in the Works at Netflix

It appears that Marshall, Will and Holly will once again be embarking on a routine expedition that instead leads them to the la-annnnd of the lo-o-o-ossst! Netflix in partnership with Legendary TV is in the 'very early stages' of developing a reboot of the cheese-tastic 1970s cult classic Land of the Lost, Deadline and others are reporting. More from TVLine Bill Lawrence: Scrubs Revival 'Looks at How the System Has Changed' - And Who, Potentially, Has Scrubbed Out The Sandman's Final Season Trailer Features Dream's Return to Hell, Warns 'All Good Stories Come to an End' For First Time, Streaming Viewing Topped Broadcast and Cable Combined in May Sid and Marty Krofft, who developed the original series, as well as Marty's daughter Deanna Krofft Pope (the VP of development at their company), reportedly will produce the project. Neither Netflix nor Legendary are commenting on the trade reports. Land of the Lost, produced by '70s TV staples Sid and Marty Krofft, starred Spencer Milligan as Rick Marshall, who during a routine rafting expedition was transported via waterfall/time portal back to prehistoric times along with his son Will (Wesley Eure) and daughter Holly (Kathy Coleman). There, the family of three contended with dinosaurs, hissing lizard men known as Sleestak, and ape-like primates called Pakuni — including one named Cha-Ka (Phillip Paley), who befriended the Marshalls and eventually learned to speak English. Milligan left the series after two seasons after demanding that he and the cast be compensated for the show's various merchandising endeavors, including lunch boxes, coloring books and board games. He was replaced by Ron Harper, who played Will and Holly's uncle Jack in the third and final season. (Harper and Milligan both passed away in spring 2024.) A 2009 film comedy version of Land of the Lost starred Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel and Jorma Taccone. Best of TVLine 'Missing' Shows, Found! Robert Downey Jr. Surprises Ironheart Stars With Virtual GMA Drop-In: ‘Iron Man Loves Ironheart' — WATCH

The MCU's erstwhile Iron Man beamed into ABC's Good Morning America on Tuesday to show some love to his successor-of-sorts. Dominique Thorne and Anthony Ramos were on-set with the morning show, to promote Disney+'s next live-action Marvel series, Ironheart, when co-anchor Robin Roberts hit pause to cue up a message from a special guest. More from TVLine For First Time, Streaming Viewing Topped Broadcast and Cable Combined in May Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Star Addresses Fans' Theory About Alex Ahead of Season 2: 'We Play Into That' New Ironheart Trailer: To Protect People, Wakanda Forever's Riri Williams Must Think 'Outside the Box' Appearing on-screen in a pre-taped bit, MCU vet Robert Downy Jr. said, 'Ms. Thorne, I couldn't be happier than to be seeing you bring Riri Williams to life,' as the young actress first did in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. RDJ then attempted a joke about Ramos' Ironheart character, The Hood aka Parker Robbins, supplanting Doctor Doom (whom Downey Jr. will be playing in upcoming MCU films), before wrapping things up by forming a heart with his fingers and saying: 'Long story short, Iron Man loves Ironheart.' Thorne responded in kind with a handmade heart and saying to the screen, 'Ironheart loves Iron Man, too.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Good Morning America (@goodmorningamerica) Thorne went on to tell GMA's Roberts that this was not the first time since booking the series that she's heard from Downey Jr. 'Shortly after we finished filming [Season 1] in Chicago is when I got the first phone call from him,' she shared. 'He's been so sweet, through and through. So, the support, it means so much. It really does.' Premiering on Disney+ Tuesday, June 24 at 9/8c (with its first three episodes), Ironheart is set after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and 'pits technology against magic when Thorne's Riri — determined to make her mark on the world — returns to her hometown of Chicago. Riri's 'unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka 'The Hood' (played by Anthony Ramos),' the synopsis tells us. The series also stars Lyric Ross (This Is Us) as Riri's best friend Natalie Washington, Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) as friend 'Joe McGillicuddy,' Manny Montana (Graceland) as Cousin John, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Riri's mother Ronnie, and Regan Aliyah (reportedly as Zelma Stanton).
