‘You are the best': PM Narendra Modi meets Italy's Giorgia Meloni at G7 Summit, video goes viral
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni at the G7 Summit in Canada. A moment from their meeting at the Group of Seven Summit has gone viral on social media, in which Italian PM Meloni can be heard complimenting the Indian prime minister.
In the widely circulated video, PM Narendra Modi and Giorgia Meloni are seen exchanging greetings while asking each other about their well-being.

During this exchange, Meloni was heard telling Modi that he was "the best" and she is 'trying to be as you'.
The two leaders later took to X to acknowledge the close ties between India and Italy.

"India's friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefitting our people!" wrote Modi on X.
PM Modi is currently in Canada for the G7 Summit 2025. On his first day, the Prime Minister met with newly elected Canadian PM Mark Carney.
Addressing reporters, Carney highlighted that Modi and India's presence at the G7 Summit "is a reflection of the size of the Indian economy, the dynamism of the Indian economy, Indian technology, the leadership position India plays in a host of venues from G20 and beyond."
The G7 Summit 2025 marks PM Modi's sixth consecutive participation in the group of seven meetings as well as the prime minister's first visit to Canada in a decade.
PM Modi's visit to Canada comes amid his three nation tour. The first stop was Cyprus, where the BJP leader was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, which is the highest civilian order of the country.
After Canada, the prime minister will be headed to Croatia.

Recognising a problem is the first step towards a solution. By that metric, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has taken an important step towards repairing a troubled India-Canada relationship. A recent CSIS report acknowledges the existence of Canada-based Khalistani extremists who continue to promote, fund and/or plan acts of violence targeting India. Not only do they mean harm to India, CSIS says these groups also threaten Canadian national security. That is lucid observation. The report's findings dovetail efforts by PM Mark Carney to repair and restore the bilateral relationship left hanging precariously by his predecessor Justin Trudeau. Recognition of continued operations of Canada-based Khalistani extremists is an important departure from the recent past when focus was turned on alleged involvement of Indian officials in the 2023 killing of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar. While perceptions of the threat may differ, acknowledgement that it's an issue of concern for both countries will allow addressing it, and avoid the kind of strange food fight that had broken out before. Like any long-standing relationship, especially between two democracies, there have been ups and downs. But, on balance, it has been a good one. The current fractured geopolitical and geo-economic landscape, exacerbated by unpredictability of the Trump regime - his continued suggestion of annexing Canada and newfound friendship with Pakistan and its generals - adds urgency to restoring and augmenting New Delhi-Ottawa ties. Working together and tackling problems with mutual respect, for mutual benefit, should become a SOP, allowing both nations to leverage the past - beyond the too-recent past, that is - and take on multiple challenges.

‘Santosh Mitra Sq puja query for visitors' safety'
Kolkata: Police on Friday said the queries on Santosh Mitra Square Durga Puja —its organisers include BJP's Sajal Ghosh—were aimed at ensuring safety for all visitors. DCP (central) Indira Mukherjee said, "The Muchipara OC sent a letter on May 14, highlighting Durga Puja safety requirements, given the large crowd it draws. The letter was sent well before the puja theme was announced. Another letter on June 17 reiterated the need for compliance with crowd management protocol. The puja committee president replied on June 18, expressing willingness to cooperate. Efforts to create confusion undermine the spirit of cooperation."

Bill tabled for sports univ, BJP MLAs walk out
Kolkata: BJP MLAs staged a walkout at the state assembly on Friday following a 20-minute argument after higher education minister Bratya Basu tabled the Netaji Subhas University of Sports and Entrepreneurship Bill, 2025. The walkout notwithstanding, a discussion was held, in which it was said the Bill was tabled to set up Netaji Subhas University of Sports and Entrepreneurship in Chinsurah and to give it status of a private university, promoted by Chinsurah Netaji Welfare Trust. Trouble broke out as BJP chief whip Shankar Ghosh rose to speak reportedly on the Bill, Trinamool MLAs, including Babul Supriyo, demanded to know why they should listen to him when BJP MLAs had walked out during a discussion on West Bengal Sales Tax (Settlement of Dispute) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 on Thursday. An argument broke out and BJP MLAs walked out. Ghosh later alleged, "Trinamool did not let me speak." Speaker Biman Banerjee said, "It is not desirable that a member will leave. The Opposition tried to speak, but they did not say anything on the Bill... ."
