IPL Star, Who Faced BCCI Suspension, Takes 5 Wickets In 5 Balls. LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka Says, "Breakout Star..."
Digvesh Rathi was one of the finds of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The mystery spinner, who was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for just Rs 30 lakh, turned into one of their go-to bowlers, taking 14 wickets in 13 matches at a respectable economy rate of 8.25 in his debut season. While Rathi made several headlines with his controversial 'notebook' celebration, he has now gone viral for one of his on-field performances. Rathi had once taken five wickets in five consecutive balls in a local T20 match, the video of which has gone viral on the internet. Even LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka could not help but react.
Rathi, playing in a local game in February 2025, left the opposition bamboozled with his trickery. Digvesh ran through the opposing batting order in one over, taking five wickets in a row - four bowled and one leg-before-wicket (LBW) - to finish with match figures of 7/28.
The video was shared by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s official social media media handle, and here is what owner Goenka said:
"Stumbled upon this clip of Digvesh Rathi taking 5 in 5 in a local T20 game. Just a glimpse of the talent that made him a breakout star for LSG in IPL 2025," Goenka posted on X.

— Dr. Sanjiv Goenka (@DrSanjivGoenka) June 16, 2025
Going by the post, it appears that Goenka was unaware about Digvesh having ever bowled such a spell, despite it happening before IPL 2025. Given that the spell took place in February 2025, it would be well after Digvesh had already been purchased by LSG at the mega auction.
Digvesh shot to fame in IPL 2025 for both his excellent bowling as well as his fiery 'notebook' celebration. Digvesh's explosive celebration was first seen when he dismissed uncapped Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Priyansh Arya in LSG's third match of the season.
Digvesh was handed a number of fines by the BCCI during IPL 2025 for his celebration. Later in the season, a verbal spat between Digvesh and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Abhishek Sharma saw him accumulate five demerit points, resulting in a one-match ban.
"This was his third Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 this season and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to Three Demerit Points he had accumulated earlier - One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025. As he now has Five Demerit Points this season - which result in a one-game suspension - Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG's next game - against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad," the statement from IPL read.

Sai Sudharsan's Four-Ball Duck Joins 73-Year‑Old Test Tally On Debut At Headingley
Young Indian batter Sai Sudharsan endured a forgettable start to his Test career as he was dismissed for a duck on debut during the opening day of the first Test against England at Headingley. In doing so, the 22-year-old from Tamil Nadu joined a rare and unwanted list, becoming only the third Indian player to be dismissed for zero on debut at Headingley, a record that stretches back 73 years. A Short Stay at the Crease Coming in at No. 3 before the century stand between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, Sudharsan walked in with India in a commanding position. However, he lasted only four balls before being dismissed by England's skipper Ben Stokes. A delivery that nipped away from a length forced an edge, and Jamie Smith behind the stumps made no mistake. It was a harsh welcome to the world of Test cricket, especially at a venue that has historically challenged debutants with seam movement and swing. A Record Nobody Wants With this dismissal, Sudharsan now finds himself alongside Gulabrai Ramchand (1952) and Datta Gaekwad (1952), the only other two Indian players to have been dismissed for a duck on Test debut at Headingley, Leeds. Gulabrai Ramchand made a duck in the second Test of the 1952 tour of England. Datta Gaekwad, too, suffered the same fate in the same match, underlining the testing conditions of Headingley for new Indian batters. Now, in 2025, Sai Sudharsan becomes the first since 1952 to replicate that misfortune. From IPL Success to Test Challenge Sai Sudharsan has been a rising star in Indian cricket, making waves in the IPL and domestic cricket with a composed batting style. His call-up to the national Test side was widely celebrated as a move toward nurturing India's next-gen talent. However, the transition from white-ball success to the red-ball challenge was tough on a bowler-friendly Headingley pitch. While one innings doesn't define a career, the debut duck is a stark reminder of the gulf between formats and the patience required in Test cricket.

Ishwar Pandey believes Jasprit Bumrah can play all five Tests in England
Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 21 (ANI): Former Indian cricketer and Rewa Jaguars head coach Ishwar Pandey believes that right-arm seamer Jasprit Bumrah will play all five Test matches of the series against England in the ongoing tour. During the announcement of India's squad for the upcoming Test tour of England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed Bumrah was advised not to contest in consecutive Tests as part of his workload management. The precaution around Bumrah's usage stems from a stress reaction in the back during the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney in January. Speaking to ANI about Bumrah, Ishwar Pandey said, "He has said that. But how his body reacts in the game. There are 5 test matches. There will be more workload. But I think he will play all the test matches. He has said that. But I think he will play all the test matches." Earlier on June 17, Bumrah said that before Rohit and Virat retired, he discussed his workload with the BCCI, considering his physical condition and the demands of a five-Test series. He consulted with his support team and surgeon, leading to a decision to manage his workload more strategically. "Before Rohit and Virat retired, during the IPL, I had spoken to the BCCI. I had discussed my workloads going forward in a five-Test match series. I've spoken to the people who have managed my back, I've spoken to the surgeon as well, who's always spoken to me about how smart you have to be about the workloads. So I did speak to him and then we concluded that I have to be a little smarter," the fast bowler said while speaking on Sky Sports Cricket. "But yeah, captaincy meant a lot. I had worked very hard for it. But unfortunately, sometimes you have to look after the bigger picture. I love cricket more than captaincy. So I want to contribute more as a cricketer and to the Indian team as a player. Ambitions are there, but that's how it is, but I called the BCCI and said I don't want to be looked at in a leadership role," the 31-year-old player added. Bumrah is currently participating in the ongoing Leeds Test at Headingley, which will take place from June 20 to 24. In his previous assignments in England, Bumrah boasted 37 scalps in nine appearances at 26.27 while maintaining an economy of 2.72 and striking at 57.8. (ANI)
