Paige Bueckers received a warm ovation from the Connecticut crowd, then proceeded to have the best game of her WNBA career. ()
Tuesday was a good day to be Paige Bueckers.
The Wings rookie was greeted on the road with a raucous ovation. She then led Dallas to a 109-87 win over the Connecticut Sun.
The win was the first of the season for Dallas and the first of Bueckers' WNBA career since she joined the Wings as the No. 1 pick in April's draft. She sparked the Dallas victory while posting a career-high 21 points alongside seven assists, five rebounds, two steals and one block. She shot 8 for 10 from the field in what was easily the best game of her burgeoning pro career.

Bueckers' day at work started with a warm greeting from the fans at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut, the site of UConn's Big East tournament championship run just two months earlier.
Bueckers played a legendary college career at UConn that featured three All-America selections and National Player of the Year honors that she capped with a national championship in April. When she took the court Tuesday night, she heard the love from the opposing crowd.
Once the ball was tipped, Bueckers proceeded to assist on the first three Dallas buckets of the night. She then hit back-to-back jumpers to spot the Wings an 11-5 lead as she scored or assisted on each of Dallas' first five field goals. By halftime, she had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, and the Wings were in control with a 56-42 lead.

They didn't slow down after halftime. Dallas maintained control of the game after the break.
Bueckers turned defense into offense midway through the third quarter with a block on one end that led to her own layup on the other.
Minutes later, she matched her previous career-high 19 points with a contested pull-up jumper to beat the shot clock. Another jumper moments later pushed Bueckers to 21 for the first 20-plus point effort of her brief WNBA career.
Bueckers didn't score again, but she didn't need to as the Wings opened things up in the fourth quarter en route to the 22-point victory. Arike Ogunbowale (19 points, four assists, six steals) and DiJonai Carrington (16 points, three rebounds) joined Bueckers in double figures from the Dallas starting lineup. Tina Charles led the Sun with 27 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.
With the win, the Wings improved to 1-4 while sending the Sun to a WNBA-worst 0-5 start. The Wings have back-to-back upcoming games against Angel Reese and the 0-3 Chicago Sky as they seek to add to their win tally.

Dallas Mavericks Hosting NBA Draft Watch Party

The Dallas Mavericks will host an NBA Draft watch party on June 25 at 5:30 p.m. as the franchise selects first overall for just the second time in history. This event will be held at American Airlines Center and will feature play-by-play announcer Mark Followill, commentator Jeff 'Skin' Wade, and ESPN analyst Ted Emrich hosting 'The MavsTV Draft Show,' according to Mike Curtis. Advertisement Multiple exclusive guests are also expected to appear on this show, including Mavericks legends Rolando Blackman, Nick Van Exel, Josh Howard, Mark Aguirre, who was selected first overall by the franchise in 1981, and Dallas Wings first overall pick Paige Bueckers in 2025. While the doors of this event will open at 5:30 p.m., the event will begin at 6 p.m. before the NBA Draft kicks off at 7 p.m. Fans looking to purchase tickets to the Mavericks' watch party can visit with the first 5,000 fans receiving commemorative Draft Day t-shirts. Tickets to this event will also include open seating, free parking, and access to concession deals, activities, and giveaways. Advertisement This event will feature the Mavericks selecting the top overall prospect in the NBA Draft, with many expecting the franchise to draft Duke freshman Cooper Flagg. Flagg is widely regarded as one of the best NBA prospects in recent memory, leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four while averaging 19.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. These performances helped Flagg win the Oscar Robertson Trophy for the National Player of the Year while also being named the Wayman Tisdale Award National Freshman Player of the Year. Flagg will team up with Mavericks forward Anthony Davis and guard Kyrie Irving, who is expected to miss the majority of the season as he recovers from a torn ACL. However, Dallas must continue to add to this roster to compete for an NBA Championship next season, with an additional playmaking guard standing out as the biggest need for the team moving forward, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Caitlin Clark Had Strong Words for Valkyries Fans

Caitlin Clark Had Strong Words for Valkyries Fans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark did not have the best of games in her first time in San Francisco. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year was held to just 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting on Thursday as the Indiana Fever fell to the Golden State Valkyries, 88-77. Advertisement This was also Clark's first time to play at Chase Center, which is also the home stadium of Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. While the Valkyries might not have as strong a following as the Warriors, there's no denying that the fans have shown their unwavering support for the WNBA's newest expansion team. Clark was asked to share her thoughts on the Valkyries faithful before Thursday's game, and the 23-year-old had nothing but praise for the fans. 'These people aren't just showing up to sit in a seat and check a box of being here," she said. "They really seem like they're here to support and cheer and appreciate women's basketball. I think that's the coolest thing. "They love it and wanna be a part of it. They kinda want to be the sixth player for this team to help them win. I feel like they have done that to this point. It's just been really cool to see. Obviously, as a player, you really do appreciate that.' Clark would have loved to mark her first game at Chase Center with a win, but this just wasn't the case on Thursday night. This will be an opportunity for Clark to get some revenge against the Valkyries and turn in a much better performance in front of their home supporters. Chicago Sky Coach Makes Hailey Van Lith Statement Amid Criticism

Chicago Sky Coach Makes Hailey Van Lith Statement Amid Criticism originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Chicago Sky rookie Hailey Van Lith came under harsh criticism from WNBA legend Angel McCoughtry ahead of the Sky's game against the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday. Advertisement After selecting Van Lith with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, Chicago is off to a 3-8 start. She is averaging 5.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in nine games played, but she has stepped into a bigger role since starting point guard Courtney Vandersloot went down with a season-ending knee injury. McCoughtry's concerns were not about Van Lith's performance, but whether she deserved a spot in the league in the first place. "If Hailey Van Lith had 10,000 followers, would she be in the league?" asked McCoughtry, a six-time All-WNBA selection, said on a podcast on Wednesday. Advertisement Van Lith has 1.3 million Instagram followers, which was fifth-most in the league at the start of the season. McCoughtry has 343,000. Shortly after McCoughtry's comments circulated on social media on Friday, Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh made it clear how Van Lith earns her opportunities every day. Chicago Sky guard Hailey Van Lith (left) and Chicago Sky coach Tyler Marsh (right).Kirby Lee-Imagn Images 'We've seen really good flashes and moments from Hailey throughout this season, and then other moments where there's obviously still room for growth," Marsh stated after Friday's practice. "As well as she played against Connecticut and then struggled against Washington, that's rookie growing pains." Advertisement Marsh was not responding specifically to McCoughtry's criticism, but his interview provided a useful look into the work she really puts in. "The thing was, she was back in the gym the next day, ready to work," he continued. "That's her greatest attribute is her work ethic, her passion, her dedication to being good and being great and being coachable. We still think highly of what Hailey's potential is long-term and short-term with us.' Van Lith's resume certainly goes deeper than a follower count. In college, she made the Elite Eight three times with three different teams — Louisville, LSU and TCU. She earned third-team All-American honors after her senior season with TCU. The 23-year-old has also achieved international success with Team USA, winning multiple 3x3 basketball titles including a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games and a gold at the 2023 FIBA 3x3 World Cup.
