Bulls coach to face the axe after player mutiny?

The Bulls emerged as the top local domestic side this past season, with coach Jake White leading the Pretoria-based side to the URC final before ultimately falling short against Leinster.
As ever, White was outspoken on a number of subjects throughout the season, which included some rather strange comments after the title decider in which he implied the Bulls just didn't have enough player quality to compete with a team like Leinster.
There were also occasions when he appeared to rather publicly criticise some players, and quite dramatically, it now seems that there has been a hard stance taken within the team.
According to Rapport , skipper Ruan Nortje and fellow Springbok Marcell Coetzee led a player delegation that met with Bulls management to raise issues about White.
It was also reported that the relationship between White and assistant coaches Chris Rossouw and Andries Bekker has also taken a turn for the worse.
White has been at the Bulls since 2020, and enjoyed real success along the way, although at times they have just fallen short in key knockout games.
It's believed that issues around White's leadership have been brewing for some time, and a Bulls board of director meeting in early July could now decide his fate.
Former Lions coach Johan Ackermann, who is currently assisting the Junior Boks, is said to be a contender to take over from White if he is let go.

100 Test caps not crucial but would be ‘flipping special' — De Allende

'I've had a long career and a very enjoyable career. Made some great mates, made some great memories with them on and off the field, that will stick with me [more] than just the amount of Test matches.' While he's not as close as his friend and Springbok teammate Willie le Roux, Damian de Allende said reaching 100 Test caps in the next season or two would be 'flipping special'. However, the memories he has made over a long and enjoyable career will stick with him more than any milestone would. All eyes are on 35-year-old fullback Le Roux, who needs only two more matches to reach the prestigious landmark. He's been included in Rassie Erasmus' 45-man squad for the early season and is expected to be given less game time after reaching it, to make way for rising stars Aphelele Fassi or Quan Horn, or the arguably more consistent but injury-prone Damian Willemse. Meanwhile, 33-year-old centre De Allende is currently on 87 Test caps. He earns a dozen or so caps every year – 15 in fact, last season. Even with Erasmus rotating the squad regularly last season, the double World Cup winner still started almost all of those games. So chances are good he will win many more caps until the likes of Ethan Hooker find their feet as back-up for De Allende, Jesse Kriel and André Esterhuizen, who are now all in their 30s. 'It won't be the end of the world' 'I'd love to achieve it [the milestone] but if it doesn't happen, it's not the end of the world,' De Allende said. 'If it does happen, it will be flipping special and I will cherish and enjoy it. But if it doesn't happen, at least I know I gave it everything. I left it all out there and gave it the best chance possible.' The centre said he is taking it as it comes, not thinking beyond the next chance to put the Springbok jersey on. 'If I get the opportunity to play again, I will put both hands up and train week in and week out to make sure the team is better. If it happens, it happens – it will be a great achievement, but if it doesn't, it won't be the end of the world. 'I've had a long career and a very enjoyable career. Made some great mates, made some great memories with them on and off the field, that will stick with me [more] than just the amount of Test matches.' De Allende playing with more freedom in his latter years He said even after winning two World Cups, one Rugby Championship, two Currie Cups, the Japanese league, and being named Super Rugby's Player of the Year, his age and accomplishments have only inspired him to play with more freedom and keep improving. 'It feels like the older I get, the more I enjoy myself, the less pressure there is on me and the less pressure I put on myself. 'It comes with age where you start learning about yourself more and you start learning that you enjoy rugby, or sport, a lot more, knowing that you only have a few more years left in you.'

Springboks unfazed by rain forecast for Barbarians game

This Saturday's match in Cape Town marks the first encounter between the Springboks and Barbarians since 2016, and it's the first time ever the teams will cross paths on South African soil. Unfortunately, a strong cold front is expected to hit Cape Town from Wednesday, bringing plenty of rain with it this week. Heavy cloud cover and some persistent rainfall is also forecast for most of Saturday, and so perhaps the expectation for free-flowing attacking rugby will need to be watered down to some degree. With that weather forecast in mind for Saturday, Springbok attack coach Tony Brown said although it could influence the match, he was comfortable that the Springboks would be able to cope. 'It's obviously tougher playing attacking rugby in the rain, but we are an adaptable team,' said Brown. 'It might be tougher for the Barbarians given their style of play, but we feel we know what is expected of our players.' Zoning in on what they expected from the Barbarians, Brown said: 'They are renowned for their attacking rugby, and they are very unpredictable, so we have to be prepared for that and prepare as well as possible for the match.' The Springboks are expected to select a strong backline, which will also include X-factor superstar Cheslin Kolbe. 'I haven't played against them, but from what I've seen, they are a good team with a lot of experienced players, so it will be important for us to stay calm and prepare as well as we can,' said Kolbe. 'It's great to be back. We haven't seen each other in six or seven months, so it was exciting to assemble as a group again. And then being in Cape Town is a home away from home for me, so it's always great playing in the Mother City.' The Springboks will continue their preparations on Tuesday and Wednesday, and will have Thursday off to rest and recuperate, before wrapping up their on-field preparations for the match on Friday with their captains' run. The match kicks off at 17:10 and will be broadcast live on SuperSport. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. All Blacks name FIVE debutants in squad for France Tests

New Zealand coach Scott Robertson named five debutants on Monday in a 33-man squad skippered by Scott Barrett for three Tests against France, as Dalton Papali'i, Ethan Blackadder and David Havili missed out. The new faces include forwards Brodie McAlister, Ollie Norris, Fabian Holland, and Du'Plessis Kirifi, along with wing Timoci Tavatavanawai. Robertson said the line-up for Tests next month in Dunedin, Wellington and Hamilton was a balance of 'continuity and opportunity'. 'Around three-quarters of the players named today were part of our squad for the 2024 northern tour, which is important because we want to continue to build on the rugby we were playing at the end of last year,' he said. 'We have balanced that with an exciting group of new and returning players who have performed during Super Rugby Pacific. 'For the five uncapped players this is a particularly special day,' he added. 'These players have all impressed us with their talent and work ethic and have earned their opportunity to be part of this All Blacks squad.' The All Blacks also welcome back hooker Samisoni Taukei'aho and centre Quinn Tupaea, who have not featured since 2023 and 2022, respectively. Scott Barrett retains the captaincy, with brother Jordie and veteran flanker Ardie Savea his deputies. 'Scott's leadership is hugely valued in this group, and well complimented by Ardie and Jordie,' said Robertson. 'They will play a vital role, along with the wider player leadership group, in supporting the transition of the new players into the environment and imparting their experience to ensure the squad is set up for success.'
