Former Ohio State basketball players get fans pumped for upcoming season
If you haven't noticed yet, the Ohio State basketball program is welcoming former players back to Columbus for a week they call "Vet Camp." It's a chance for former OSU players to come back to town and practice, work out, and coach the current roster full of players.
It's a great time to connect and be around guys who have been through the thick and thin, who have bled Scarlet and Gray and can relate and provide guidance, competition, and a mature outlook on what it means to be an OSU basketball player. After Monday, many of those who came back to stay in touch with the program they used to play for took time out to express their excitement about the upcoming season on social media.
It's a short message by the likes of Greg Oden, D'Angelo Russell, Brice Sensabaugh, Kosta Koufus, and Ron Lewis, and a few others, of the anticipation for what this season could bring. All believe in what head coach Jake Diebler and the program are building and what could be in store for the 2025-2026 season. Hopefully, these former players are correct because the Buckeye program sorely needs to have a momentum-building year where it makes it back to the NCAA Tournament. It would help immensely if Ohio State also contended for a Big Ten title and more, but baby steps, right?

We weren't too sure when the end of the "feats of athletic endeavors" between the old guys and the young pups were going to be over, or even what events would be a part of all the hoopla, but we were informed today that the last competition took place by way of half-court shots. Going into the last event, things were all knotted up at 5 to 5, just like you'd want it, so the winner of the long bombs from half-court would get the bragging rights. And, unfortunately for those of us who are competing with Father Time ourselves, the younger players won the half-court shooting competition and took the title of the "June Olympics" with a final 6 to 5 score. You can check out the highlights below. By the looks of it, it took just one shot to win it after several airballs and misfires. Watch as the shot goes through the bottom of the net for the players to claim supremacy. As if the youth in the building didn't have enough talking to do, now the elder statesmen in the program will have to live with the loss until next summer when we see if the "June Olympics" make another appearance. WATCH: Ohio State incoming transfer Christoph Tilly is already balling in Columbus
The Ohio State basketball program went through an extreme makeover after the disappointing season last year. The Buckeyes kept the likes of Bruce Thornton, Devin Royal, and John Mobley Jr., but they lost others who were thought to be key pieces of the future when OSU got them prior. So, head coach Jake Diebler and the staff had to retool a bit and try to bring in the talent and pieces they thought could build momentum to get back to the NCAA Tournament this year and lay a foundation for getting the team back among one of the best in the Big Ten and country. One of those keys was to bring in a big man, but not just any big man. Today's game almost necessitates a guy who can go both inside and out for spacing on the floor and forced matchups from the other sideline. To do that, Ohio State went out and convinced former Santa Clara big man, Christop Tilly to come to Columbus out of the transfer portal. We've already heard from Dielber on what he brings to the table, but now we have some highlights of him balling out in some of the controlled scrimmages the OSU basketball team has been going through. By the looks of the video shared on the Ohio State Hoops "X" account, it sure feels like Tilly should provide Ohio State with some scoring, athleticism, and needed stretching of opposing Big Ten defenses next year. Take a look for yourself below. There's a lot of optimism in Columbus because of Tilly and the other pieces that have been brought in, but it all means absolutely nothing until the team shows what it can do on the floor when things tip off this winter. 4-star edge rusher, Alabama target announces official commitment date
A prospect that the Alabama Crimson Tide recently made the top three finalists for earlier this month, a date is now set for the commitment decision of highly-touted edge rusher Cincere Johnson. Johnson, who lists both Ohio State and Penn State as finalists alongside Alabama, will be making his decision June 19 between the three programs. Advertisement According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Johnson is considered as the nation's No. 71 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, as well as the No. 8 overall edge rusher. A versatile linebacker, Johnson is also a four-star prospect, and is ranked the No. 2 overall player in the state of Ohio where he attends Glenville High School. Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently boasts five commitments, two of which are edge rusher's in fellow four-star's Jamarion Matthews and Kamhariyan Johnson.
