LAHAD DATU: A local man and a Filipino were detained during the Ops Tapis operation carried out by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division of Lahad Datu Police Headquarters at Kampung Puyut, Jalan Pantai, here on Saturday. District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said, the first suspect was detained at about 11.50am.
Advertisement He said, police found 0.15 grams of substance believed to be Syabu in his possession. The suspect was also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine. 'The second suspect, a 42-years-old local man was detained at the same location after the police found 0.53 gram syabu hid inside a RM50 note. 'The suspect who had six previous criminal records related to drugs was also tested positive for taking Amphetamine and Methamphetamine,' he said. Man's body discovered off Tanjung Aru coast

KOTA KINABALU: Police have launched an investigation after a man's body was found floating in the sea near the Sunsite Bar area in Tanjung Aru on Monday. The discovery was reported to authorities by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) at around 2.30pm. APM personnel retrieved the body and brought it ashore to the APM Tower in Tanjung Aru for further action. Police units from the Kota Kinabalu MPV teams and Kepayan Ridge Patrol Unit, along with forensic officers, were deployed to the scene. One child dead, one hospitalised after being hit by car

KOTA KINABALU: Police are investigating a fatal road accident involving two young girls on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, near Teluk Likas, on Monday morning. The crash, which occurred at about 9.45am, involved a Perodua Axia driven by a 55-year-old local man who struck the girls, aged 12 and 7, while they were crossing the road. City police chief ACP Kasim Muda confirmed that one child died at the scene while the other sustained head injuries and is being treated at Likas Hospital in stable condition. The driver was unhurt and initial checks showed no signs of alcohol or drug use, although a toxicology test has been taken for further confirmation. Philippine VP Duterte responds to impeachment trial summons

A guilty verdict in the Senate would result in Ms Duterte's removal from office and permanent disqualification from politics. -- PHOTO: REUTERS MANILA (AFP): Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte responded Monday to her Senate impeachment trial summons hours before the deadline, demanding the case against her be dropped. The House of Representatives impeached Duterte in early February on charges of graft, corruption and an alleged assassination plot against one-time ally and former running mate President Ferdinand Marcos. A guilty verdict in the Senate would result in her removal from office and permanent disqualification from politics. A copy of Duterte's reply to the summons delivered by messenger to House prosecutors on Monday afternoon called the complaint against her an abuse of the impeachment process. "There are no statements of ultimate facts in the (impeachment complaint). Stripped of its 'factual' and legal conclusions, it is nothing more than a scrap of paper," the response read. It goes on to deny the allegations made against her as "false" and state that the Senate's decision to remand the case to the House earlier this month removed her responsibility to answer them. Duterte is currently on a trip to Australia where she is meeting with Filipino supporters. Her summons was issued on June 10 after an hours-long Senate session that saw lawmakers convene as an impeachment court only to send the case back to the House, a decision one lawmaker called a "functional dismissal". Barely 24 hours later, the House complied with the senior body's order to "certify" the constitutionality of the impeachment. Duterte allies in the Senate had argued that earlier complaints heard in the House without a vote counted as multiple impeachment hearings within a single year, a violation of the country's 1987 constitution. House prosecutors now have five days to respond to the vice president's answers. Her trial is not expected to start until the new Senate convenes on July 28. - AFP
