LAHAD DATU: A teen suffered injuries on his face as he fell upon being chased by a group of wild dogs on Monday (June 16). It was learnt that he was heading home in Kampung Sabah Baru from Lahad Datu town when the incident happened. Advertisement A police report was lodged by the victim. Meanwhile, the Beaufort District Council is urged to take immediate action to trap and remove stray dogs roaming around Kampung Brunei following incidents of aggressive behaviour. Village head Ag Tali Ismail shared an alarming incident involved a child who was chased and nearly bitten by a stray dog. Ag Tali expressed concern over the growing number of stray dogs in the village, warning that if left unchecked, the situation could worsen and disturb the peace of the community. Advertisement 'There are fears of rabies transmission, which is extremely dangerous, especially for children,' he added. He said the dogs' frequent barking during the night and early morning hours had disrupted residents' rest. Ag Tali said while some villagers might consider killing the dogs, such actions would violate the law. The victims, aged in their 20s and 40s, were treated at the scene before being transferred to hospital for further care. Advertisement The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 7.30pm and dispatched a team with one fire engine, two 4WD vehicles and an EMRS unit. Upon arrival, firefighters found a semi-permanent house measuring 60 feet by 60 feet partially engulfed in flames and worked to extinguish it using a 200-foot hose line. Kota Kinabalu: Some 187 illegal immigrants were detained in three separate operations conducted by the Sabah Immigration Department on Wednesday. The operations were carried out in two squatter areas and a construction site in Inanam, Luyang and Telipok. Advertisement Sabah Immigration Director Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yusoff said the simultaneous operations from 1am involved 108 officers and personnel. She said a total of 260 individuals were inspected, resulting in 187 of them detained for committing offences under the Immigration Act. 'Those arrested comprise 41 men, 43 women, 56 boys and 46 girls from the Philippines as well as an Indonesian,' she said in a statement. Sitti said all detained were taken to the Kota Kinabalu Enforcement Division Office for the documentation process as well as further investigations under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having identification documents. According to her, the department has conducted a total of 765 operations this year. She said some 15,092 individuals were inspected in the operations, with 2,777 illegals detained, while 6,290 individuals have been repatriated to their countries of origin. She urged the public to channel information related to illegal immigrants to the department for immediate action. Members of the public, especially employers, are advised not to protect or employ illegal immigrants as they would face legal action. LAHAD DATU: A 59-year-old local was detained for allegedly encroaching into a forest reserve here, Tuesday, during an Op Bakar by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Forestry Department. Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Commander Dzulfikhar, said they discovered that about five acres have been trespassed and opened illegally. Advertisement Among the activities conducted included cutting down mangrove trees, open burning and planting of oil palm trees, fruits and vegetables. 'A house and a building structure for bird nests were also built in the area without permission. 'The man, suspected of committing an offence under the Forest Enactment 1968, was handed over to the Forestry Department for further investigation,' he said. According to Dzulfikhar, the implementation of integrated operations such as the Op Bakar is an important step in ensuring forest reserves, coastal areas and waters remain protected without any invasion. 'The collaborative approach not only aims at protecting the natural ecosystem but also ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our national waters,' he said. He added that the Lahad Datu Maritime Zone will further strengthen strategic cooperation with other enforcement agencies in efforts to intensify security and enforcement control.
