Fred Sirieix, known for his role as the charming maître d' on Channel 4's 'First Dates', has shared his thoughts on the delicate balance between humour and causing offence.
In light of recent allegations against 'This Morning' chef Gino D'Acampo, with whom Fred has appeared on ITV, the 53 year old offered his perspective during an open discussion with The Times.
Fred, who has previously joined forces with Gino and Gordon Ramsay for the ITV series 'Road Trip', reflected on a flirtatious comment he made during his stint on the BBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are?'
His remarks follow accusations that Gino engaged in "unacceptable" sexualised and aggressive behaviour on set, which Gino vehemently denies.
Discussing the need to "reset a little bit", Fred recalled his appearance on the BBC show where he began by serenading a woman at a restaurant with his usual smooth charm, reports the Mirror.
He recounted how he told the lady: "I was singing Pretty Woman in my head when you were walking in with all your froufrou and everything."
Reflecting on the moment, which the woman took in good spirits, Fred considered: "I'm 53; I want to carry on singing Pretty Woman.
"And also I may do a bad joke one day too, you know what I mean?". Without directly referencing Gino's situation, Fred highlighted the distinction: "But hold on: there's a big difference between a bad joke that somebody doesn't appreciate and saying something rude, inappropriate and quite frankly unacceptable."
Fred Sirieix has urged for a change in societal attitudes, ardently remarking: "I think we've got to reset a little bit. It's gone too far. I've got to say, I love men. Men are fantastic. They are!".
The charming 'First Dates' host delved into the rising popularity of Reform UK and its leader Nigel Farage, alongside his perspective on immigration, offering a stark contrast to Labour's approach, says Gloucestershire Live.
When asked about potentially relocating from Britain should Farage clinch the PM role in 2028, Fred was undecided but highlighted ties to both the UK and France: "He could be, but we're not there yet. Look, my children are here. I live here and I love this country."
Addressing the current turbulent times, Fred critiqued: "All countries have these ups and downs and we are currently at the bottom of a wave. Things are not going very well, there is no clear sense of direction and the politicians don't know what they're doing."
He compared this with the situation in France, commenting on the political extremes there: "But in France it's no better. When Macron got elected there, 25 per cent were voting extreme left and 25 per cent voting extreme right."
Over the span of almost three decades, Fred has won over the nation with his television appearances, notably his cherished role on 'First Dates', solidifying his status as a British icon. His most recent endeavour involves tracing his roots on BBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are?'
In this evening's poignant episode, Fred journeys back to France to investigate his ancestry, where he discovers the wartime love story of his maternal grandparents and addresses a longstanding family myth.

ITV quiz show stars 'pull out' of new series just weeks before filming
The show made its debut last year becoming the newest addition to ITV's ever-growing game show line-up An ITV quiz show has suffered a significant setback as reports claim that its two celebrity team captains won't be returning for the upcoming series. First introduced last year, Password joined the ranks of ITV's expanding roster of game shows. The programme, which aired during September and October, is hosted by Stephen Mangan and comes from the creative minds behind Britain's Got Talent and QI. In Password, celebrity team captains collaborate with a member of the public to win a jackpot of £10,000. Each captain knows a secret password which their teammate must deduce from a single-word hint. Last series featured Daisy May Cooper and Alan Carr as team captains, but now it appears they won't be back for round two. The Sun has quoted a source saying: "Password did brilliantly on its first outing and it's always a shame to make changes, but Alan and Daisy are both incredibly busy and diaries just wouldn't align." The source added: "Something had to give and sadly it was their roles as team captains. But there's an exciting line-up of celebs ready to take part instead, and everyone's confident that the format works without them." Reach PLC has made attempts to contact ITV for a statement regarding the claims. This development follows the news that Daisy and her brother Charlie, who played alongside her in This Country, have withdrawn from participating in the forthcoming series of Celebrity Traitors, reports Wales Online. Just a few weeks before the cameras were set to roll, it was reported that the two actors had unexpectedly withdrawn. According to the Mirror, Daisy and Charlie made the decision as they didn't want to be separated from their families. Daisy, aged 38, welcomed her baby Benji with partner Anthony Huggins, 45, in June. She also has Pip, six, and Jack, three, from a previous relationship. Charlie, 35, is a father of two children with his wife Leighanne. In other news, Alan is part of the Celebrity Traitors line-up, joining the likes of Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross. He's also slated to co-host the new series of Secret Genius alongside Suzie Dent, and has collaborated with Amanda Holden on another TV series, titled Amanda and Alan's Greek Job, for which release dates are yet to be confirmed. Amanda and Alan have previously won over audiences with their other TV series, Amanda and Alan's Italian Job and Amanda and Alan's Spanish Job.

Prince Harry ‘will invite King Charles & William to next Invictus Games' – but it clashes with key royal event
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PRINCE Harry is set to invite King Charles and William to the next Invictus games, insiders claim. The Duke of Sussex, 40, could extend the olive branch to his estranged family at the 2027 event, although it clashes with a key royal bash. A source claimed: "Harry has agreed that Invictus should extend an invitation to his family. "Invictus hopes the Royal Family will come along to support the wounded veterans taking part. Harry is hopeful his father will set aside their differences to attend the Invictus Games and support veterans. "The Royals have always been hugely supportive of Invictus and proud of what Harry has achieved in that arena. This is one olive branch from him which might be reciprocated." If the Monarch and his eldest son were to attend it could mark the biggest step towards reconciliation so far. It comes after the Duke revealed in his bombshell BBC interview last month that "life is precious" and "I would like to get my father and brother back". Royal expert Ingrid Seward said: "The King might attend to show support for the Armed Forces and congratulate Harry on the most significant success in his life. "The only reason the King is wary of associating with his son is that he no longer trusts him not to repeat their private conversations as he has done in the past. "This goes for all the working members of the family." It is understood the invitations to Charles and Wills have already been approved by Harry and sent. Prince Harry practices his German as he shares video message to mark country's first Veteran's Day But, despite three years notice, the Invictus invite is still set to clash with a major royal event. The ceremony will kick off at Birmingham's NEC on July 12, 2027, and will conclude on July 17. This falls on the same day as Queen Camilla's 80th birthday, an occasion sure to be celebrated by the royals. A spokesman for Invictus said: "No formal invitations have been issued as preparations are in the early stages." It is not known whether Harry's wife Meghan Markle would also be in attendance after the Duke lost his security bid last month. He begged "my life is stake" as he appealed against the withdrawal of his publicly-funded security while in the UK. This comes after Harry said a reconciliation with his family lay in Charles' hands. Speaking to the BBC, the Duke said there is no reason to keep fighting - but that the King won't speak to him over his security row. Harry said Charles "won't speak to me because of this security stuff", after loosing an appeal battle to keep his privately-funded security. "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious", Harry continued. Harry also sensationally blamed the King for his woes and claimed "this whole thing could be resolved through him". The Duke moaned it was "impossible" to bring his family to the UK and that it is "sad" that he won't be able to show his children his homeland. Harry's row started after he stopped being a working royal in 2020, moved with wife Meghan to California, and wrote his bombshell book Spare. He added in the interview: "Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. "Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. "But you know, I would love reconciliation with my family. "I've always, there's no point in continuing to fight anymore. "And I said, life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has he, he won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile." There was hope for reconciliation last year when Harry travelled to the UK to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of his Invictus Games. However, the King and Harry failed to meet due to the Monarch's "full programme". And the Duke was offered to spend his time at one of the royal apartments - however he turned it down in what was branded a snub to his father. Meanwhile, Princes William and Harry have not been in direct communication since the release of Harry's controversial memoir, Spare, in January 2023. Their last reported interaction was during the funeral of their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, but conversations were said to be brief. The feuding brothers reportedly did not speak to each other despite standing 'virtually back to back' among mourners at their uncle's memorial service last year. The brothers have been at loggerheads since Harry and wife Meghan quit royal duty in 2020 for a new life in the US, where they have launched a succession of barbs at the Royal Family. Growing up, Wills and Harry shared many of the same friends who were part of their close, tight-knit circle. But their relationship took a sour turn after Harry lobbed vile allegations against the Prince of Wales in his memoir Spare. In the book, he claimed William had physically attacked him and knocked him to the floor in 2019 and made insulting comments about Meghan. The Sussexes had also targeted Princess Kate, when Meghan claimed the royal made her cry. The bitter feud was ignited with full force when the Sussexes told Oprah, in their 2021 sit down interview, that certain members of the Royal Family had speculated about Prince Archie's skin colour. It was later claimed the royals were Princess Kate and King Charles, after Harry and Meghan's former pal Omid Scobie published his hatchet-job book Endgame. During the infamous Oprah interview, the duchess also made stinging comments about the Firm and how they handled her mental health struggles. Prince William and Harry's bond then worsened after the Sussexes made a number of accusations against the Royal Family in their 2022 Netflix docuseries. The duke has given subsequent interviews, such as his most recent BBC chat, that have only propelled bad blood. A timeline of Prince Harry's family feud IN 2018, the Sun told how "simmering tension The first hints of friction reportedly came after William was introduced to Meghan when she was staying at Kensington Palace. Once she'd returned home to Canada, William and Harry sat down for a brother-to-brother chat. He knew Harry was already head-over-heels for her but it has been claimed he advised him to take it slowly. The younger prince reportedly didn't take too kindly to the advice, with one royal source saying he "went mental". Then in June 2019 Harry and Meghan officially split off from the charity they shared with William and Kate. The Royal Foundation will be divided between the Sussexes and Cambridges as the couples focus on their own separate charitable endeavours. Prince William and Prince Harry first established the Royal Foundation in 2009 before Kate joined two years later shortly after their engagement was announced. The trio would often appear together at events and the Foundation had huge successes with projects like the Invictus Games for injured veterans and the mental health Heads Together campaign. The Royal Foundation said the decision was made following the conclusion of a review into its structure - but added both couples will continue to work together in the future. Harry and Meg were living in close proximity to Kate and Wills within the Kensington Palace estate, but they switched to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before baby Archie was born. The move further increased rumours of a fallout. Harry also hinted in his ITV documentary "Harry and Meghan, An African Journey" that he and his brother had grown apart. In 2021, Harry and Meghan give their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey where Harry accused his dad of cutting him off financially. Harry then jetted back to UK to join William in unveiling a statue to their mother Princess Diana in the grounds of Kensington Palace. But sources claimed William didn't want to attend the memorial amid their ongoing rift. In 2022, just before their grandmother the Queen died, sources claimed Kate acts as a "peacemaker" between the brothers. Harry claimed his brother "knocked him to the floor" during an argument about Meghan, in his memoir. In Spare, Harry said William branded Meghan "rude" and "difficult" during a row. Harry alleged William "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor". He said he was left with a visible injury to his back following the argument in 2019 at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he was living at the time. In January 2024, Harry flew in to be with Charles after the monarch's shock cancer diagnosis. Harry flew back to the US the following day - without seeing Wills. 6 It is not known whether Meghan would be in attendance at the Invictus Games too Credit: instagram 6 The brothers used to share a close bond together, with their father

Vera star Kenny Doughty's life from Coronation Street to his famous co-star wife
Kenny Doughty was a well-known face on ITV as he starred in Vera as DS Aiden Healy for 10 years before his exit from the show and he also had a short-lived role in Corrie Actor Kenny Doughty, who stole hearts as DS Aiden Healy in ITV's hit crime drama Vera alongside Brenda Blethyn's DCI Vera Stanhope, has bid farewell to the show that made him a household name. Having joined forces with the Northumberland and City Police back in 2014 and dedicating a whole decade to aiding on-screen crime solving, Kenny announced he would be leaving the role of Aiden. Although he remained tight-lipped about the reasons for leaving initially, earlier this year, in an emotional revelation to The i Paper, he disclosed it was all due to his stepdad's terminal cancer diagnosis. Kenny paid a heartfelt tribute: "Steve was a glorious, delightful man," expressing his deep admiration, "I was proud to refer to him as my 'dad', not my stepfather." Moreover, he fondly recalled Steve's influence on his life, crediting him for teaching valuable lessons. "He was a lecturer in agriculture when he met my mum, and he taught me how to be a better man," Kenny's final months with his stepdad were both poignant and personal, involving a hands-on project of building a wooden house together in Ireland. "It was a no-brainer, choosing to quit work and spend those last six months with him. We built a wooden house together by their home in Ireland and he taught me about wood, joinery, carpentry," Kenny shared, encapsulating the irreplaceable time they spent together, reports Devon Live. Vera itself concluded with its last episode in April 2025 following Brenda Blethyn's departure. Kenny was born in Barnsley and raised by his single mother, who pursued education after parting ways with his father when Kenny was still young. After earning a BA in English literature, she became a successful businesswoman and provided mentorship for community members. Kenny initiated his acting career with small parts in films such as I Want You and Elizabeth, Heartbeat and the comedy series Dinnerladies. He has featured in numerous popular television programmes; however, his role as Sean in the Sky series Stella in 2012 brought him more fame. Kenny's Corrie role Soap fans will recall Kenny as builder Jake Harman in Coronation Street back in 2009. Jake was introduced to the cobbles when local businessman Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) employed him to repair a roof. In a comical scene, he falls from a ladder and ends up hanging outside Michelle Connor's (Kym Marsh) bathroom window. After assisting Jake to safety, Michelle accidentally dropped her towel and he planted a kiss on her. A displeased Michelle dismissed him and reported Jake to the police for stalking before they briefly dated. Kenny has also appeared in some of television's most popular series including Heartbeat, Stella, Wire in the Blood, Casualty, and more. In 2013, the actor played Gaz in a UK tour and the West End production of Simon Beaufoy's stage play The Full Monty. This year, Kenny made a comeback to prime time television in Channel 5 drama The Au Pair, where he portrayed the character Chris for four episodes. Kenny's famous wife Kenny has found love again with well-known actress Ashley Jensen, 55, acclaimed for her appearances in Extras, Shetland, and Agatha Raisin. He's taken on the role of stepfather to Ashley's teenage lad, Frankie. The two actors joined forces onscreen for the BBC One drama Love, Lies, and Records back in 2017. Hailing from Scotland, Ashley portrayed Kate Dickenson in the esteemed drama series, with Kenny stepping into the shoes of the character Rick Severs. Their budding romance blossomed a few years following the tragic passing of Ashley's spouse, Terence Beesley, whose credits included The Bill, EastEnders, Heartbeat, and Midsomer Murders. Ashley and Terence's decade-long marriage was blessed with a son, Francis. In an intimate reveal to The i Paper, Kenny shared his views on parenting, saying: "I don't see much difference between being a step-parent and a parent," and "You're parenting either way. You want the best for your child. I adore Frankie as if he was my son." Previously, Kenny was hitched to fellow actress Caroline Carver, whom he starred with both in Holby City and the poignant 2004 film The Aryan Couple.
