Quaint UK town hiding ‘Disney for history buffs' attraction that's loved by Countryfile star
Plus, the retro tourist town in the UK where you can 'live' in the 1920s BACK IN TIME Quaint UK town hiding 'Disney for history buffs' attraction that's loved by Countryfile star AN unusual attraction that is a "Disney for history lovers" has been raved about by a Countryfile star. Matt Baker, currently appearing in Matt Baker's British Isles, has confessed that he's a huge fan of the 'living museum of the North'. 5 Beamish is a living museum in the North of England Credit: Alamy 5 There are old-fashioned shops in the recreated town Credit: Alamy When Sun Travel asked Matt Baker where he'd recommend anyone to visit on a trip to Durham, he simply answered "Beamish". He continued: "It's the best open air museum in the world, without question. "Basically what they do is take down buildings in the North East and put them back up at Beamish, and go around on all old trams, there's old villages, farms - you can even stay there now and have a historic stay over at Beamish. "It's amazing, it's basically the North East through the ages and you can spend days there." Beamish is a world famous open air museum in the town of Stanely and the first of its kind to open in the region. It brings the history of North East England to life. You can have a Georgian experience at Pockerly Old Hall or see how families lived and worked in the years leading up to the First World War in the 1900s. One of the recent installations was Spain's Field Farm which stood for centuries in Eastgate near Weardale in Durham. It was then dismantled and transported to the museum, where it was been carefully rebuilt to show 1950s life on the region's upland farms. In 2024 Beamish opened a new 1950s town, which includes a toy shop, welfare hall and a cinema that had been taken from Ryhope in Sunderland and rebuilt. There's also a pub, a school, a dentist among its businesses and you can ride on the trams and buses, and explore the railway station too. "It's like Disney World for history buffs - that's the only way I can describe it. You get transported back in time, it's a proper immersive experience." You can even see Matt on a trip to the living museum if you catch up on one of his previous shows. He told us: "I did a series called 'Travels with Mum & Dad' and we went all over the North East, so if you are fascinated and want to find out more watch that because we went to Beamish." 5 Matt Baker reveals the place in Durham everyone should visit Credit: Channel 4 Tickets to the open air museum are unlimited passes so once you've been once, you can visit for the whole year including daytime events. Adult tickets cost £33, senior and student tickets cost £25, children between 5-16 are £20. As for other places to explore around his stomping ground, Matt recommended Durham Cathedral and the High Force waterfall in Teesdale. He also suggested taking a walk in the Durham Dales and strolling along the coastline. Currently the Countryfile star is on an adventure through the British Isles showing off what the UK has to offer. He's found beautiful beaches on the Northern Irish coastline and discovered tasty sparkling wine at a Champagne-worthy vineyard in Kent. Watch the final episode Matt Baker's British Isles on Tuesday 24, at 9pm on More4. Catch up on all previous episodes on This European city has the world's oldest living museum and £2 local beers. And this retro UK tourist 'town' is where Peaky Blinders was filmed and you can live a 1920s life.

Kim Woodburn's loved ones 'hit back at her co-star Aggie MacKenzie for comments about their bitter feud on How Clean Is Your House?' following the presenter's death
Kim Woodburn 's loved ones are claimed to have hit back at her former co-star Aggie MacKenzie for comments made about their feud following the presenter's death. 'Queen of Clean' Kim died on Tuesday at the age of 83 following after a short illness, with tributes pouring in for the much-loved TV star. She featured on screens for decades including on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!, Celebrity Big Brother and most famously, How Clean is Your House? - which she hosted with Aggie, 69. However, the pair 'never got on' during their six years on the Channel 4 show, with Aggie reflecting how they 'barely spoke' in comments made following Kim's death. Aggie referred to her co-star as a 'tormented soul' following their two-decade feud and accused her of 'pushing her to the ground' in comments which have reportedly upset Kim's family. According to The Sun, Kim's family have taken exception to the comments while her husband Peter is said to be upset. A friend of Peter's told the publication: 'Peter is very hurt and upset [...]. 'A lot of things that Aggie has said are untrue, recollections may vary.' The friend claimed the family were upset Aggie couldn't keep a 'dignified silence' on their fallout as they claimed Kim had done over the years when questioned about it. MailOnline has contacted Aggie's representatives for comment. Representatives of Kim's family declined to comment. Aggie detailed the extent of her feud with Kim during their time hosting How Clean Is Your House? from 2003 until 2009 in comments made following her co-star's death. Writing in The Sun following Kim's passing, Aggie said: 'There were days filming together that felt like walking a tightrope. 'And by the later series, I'll be honest - our relationship had almost completely broken down. We barely spoke off camera.' In another interview with The Mirror, Aggie - who now works as a yoga teacher - pinpointed the exact moment her and Kim's friendship deteriorated. The alleged incident reportedly occurred while they were performing as the Ugly Sisters in a 2008 pantomime, though Kim's family have now hit back at her claims about the row. She said: 'Kim missed her cue so I tapped her on the shoulder. We went on and did our scene, but when we came out at the other side, Kim was furious. She pushed me. She actually pushed me so hard that I fell over. 'I lost it then. I really really lost it with her. I was so furious because I wasn't expecting to be pushed over like that.' Aggie claimed the supposed row threw the whole pantomime into chaos, as Kim ran off to her dressing room 'crying her eyes out,' and she refused to go back on stage. While bosses scrambled to save the show, Kim decided to return to the stage, with Aggie saying she felt 'crushed and disrespected' by her co-star's alleged behaviour. The former presenter claimed that she never received an apology from Kim following the reported argument. Despite believing How Clean is Your House? was made better by the friction between them, Aggie said their feud was ultimately the reason the show was discontinued. Disagreements between Aggie and Kim had become so severe that they could no longer continue filming for Channel 4. Despite believing that How Clean is Your House? was made better by the friction between the pair, Aggie admitted their feud was ultimately the reason the show was discontinued Following Kim's death, Aggie shared a statement with The Daily Mail, which read: 'Kim was a tormented soul, but now she's finally at peace. 'We clashed often. Behind the fierce person was deep pain and incredible strength. She survived because she had to. I hope she's resting now. She was an unforgettable woman.' Kim's passing was announced on Tuesday. Her representative confirmed to MailOnline: 'It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness. 'Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband Peter is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate. 'We are so proud of the amazing things Kim achieved in her life and career. 'We kindly ask that Kim's husband and close friends are given the time and privacy they need to grieve. We will not be releasing any further details.' Kim is survived by her husband Peter - who she married in 1979. In a heartbreaking post on Instagram following her passing, he shared a slideshow of images of Kim since birth. He penned in a caption: 'My wonderful, beautiful, Kim passed away last night. God bless, my love, xxxx.' In the months before her death, Kim had paused her work commitments due to ill health and she also underwent surgery on her eye earlier this year. Known as the 'Queen of Clean', Kim rose to fame as the co-host of Channel 4's popular series How Clean is Your House? at the age of 60. Kim went on to become a household name on ITV chat shows This Morning and Loose Women. She also starred in a number of reality TV shows including a stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2009 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017.
