Eric Dane opened up about his reconciled relationship with wife Rebecca Gayheart during an interview with Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer on June 16
"We have managed to become better friends and better parents. And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her," he said
Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018, but requested to dismiss the filing in March — just one month before Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosisEric Dane is opening up about his recent reconciliation with his wife.
In a June 16 interview with Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer, Dane got candid about his relationship with wife Rebecca Gayheart. The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress filed for divorce in February 2018, though she and the Euphoria star apparently reconciled recently in March 2025.
Sawyer, 79, asked Dane, 52, who he calls when he needs support, and the actor immediately mentioned Gayheart, 53.
"I call Rebecca. I talk to her every day," Dane said, as he began to tear up. "We have managed to become better friends and better parents. And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her."
The pair met in 2003 and wed less than a year later in Las Vegas. Dane and Gayheart welcomed their first child, daughter Billie Beatrice, in 2010, and another daughter, Georgia Geraldine, in 2011.
Gayheart's divorce filing in 2018 cited "irreconcilable differences," though it didn't list a separation date. The document requested joint legal and physical custody of both daughters, as well as spousal support.
"After 14 years together we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family," Dane said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time. "We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us. We kindly ask that you respect our privacy during this time as we navigate the next phase of our lives."
Despite their separation, the pair seemed to remain on good terms, occasionally voicing support for each other and amicably co-parenting, including a family vacation to France in 2022.
In February 2025, Dane was spotted out with actress Priya Jain, prompting romance rumors, though just one month later, Gayheart formally requested to dismiss her divorce filing from Dane.

Just one month after their reconciliation, Dane announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
"I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter," he told PEOPLE. 'I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.'
One day before Dane's announcement, Gayheart shared a quick relationship update with E! News. "We are best of friends. We are really close," she said.

'Superman''s David Corenswet Recalls ‘Intense' Time He Screen-Tested for the Movie During Wife's Pregnancy (Exclusive)

David Corenswet tells PEOPLE that he and his wife had to keep two big secrets when they found out she was pregnant and he was cast as Superman "We had these two quite huge secrets that we just had between the two of us," he says Corenswet is PEOPLE's latest cover star as the new Superman movie is poised to take flight this summerFor Superman star David Corenswet, 2023 was a busy year: He learned he'd be a father and landed the part of the Man of Steel. In PEOPLE's new cover story, the Philadelphia native, 31, recalls going through the 'intense' time with wife Julia, 34. 'She told me that she was pregnant two days after I found out I was going to screen test for Superman,' says Corenswet. 'For the first several months of her pregnancy, as is sort of protocol, we weren't telling anybody. We had these two quite huge secrets that we just had between the two of us. And that was intense.' 'For a period we had just each other for these two huge things,' continues Corenswet, who says Julia's due date originally coincided with when he was set to start filming in early 2024. 'It was very close. It wasn't direct, but it was still very close. But it was just having to do two big unknown things at the same time. And they were both great things,' he says. The good-natured Corenswet found the lighter side of the situation. 'She gained about 40 pounds while she was pregnant and in the same period I gained about 40 pounds gaining weight for Superman,' he recalls. 'I started snoring and had to use her pregnancy pillow.' The actor says he was at his home, on a break from making the 2024 movie Twisters, when he got the call from Superman director James Gunn telling him he had been cast in the lead role. 'It started with, 'Hey David, it's James Gunn.' And I said, 'Can you prove that?' I guess in the moment before when I saw the unknown 310 number, I thought, 'I'm pretty sure this is James telling me whether or not I got the part, but it could be anybody from Los Angeles who has my number and maybe somebody's going to play a prank on me,' " Corenswet says of the phone call that changed his life. 'Anyway, I think he appreciated that and he said, 'That's a good point. I'm calling to offer you the role of Superman.' And I said, 'Well, you're the only person who could do that, so it must be you,'' Corenswet continues. Now he's hoping he did the role justice. 'I feel much more a sense of responsibility than a sense of accomplishment having done the role. I also know that so much in life and especially the life of an actor is up to chance and good luck, and certainly you get what you make of your situation,' he says. 'I just think of it as a great stroke of luck and I better do everything I can to earn the responsibility,' Corenswet continues. Are Eric Dane & Rebecca Gayheart Still Together? Here's Everything We Know Amid His Battle With ALS

In April of this year, Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria star Eric Dane revealed he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). And, on June 16, he opened up about his battle with the incurable disease in a sit-down with Diane Sawyer for Good Morning America. In the interview, in which he revealed he's lost function in his right arm, Dane and Sawyer provided some clarity on his marriage to fellow actress Rebecca Gayheart. In 2018, after 14 years of marriage, Gayheart filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and 'TBD' as their separation. But, in March 2025, well into Dane's ALS journey, Gayheart requested to dismiss the divorce. So are Dane and Gayheart together right now? From the looks of it, Dane and Gayheart are separated, but are not divorcing. When introducing Gayheart, Sawyer said, 'The couple once separated, but now are close.' When asked about their connection, Dane got emotional. 'I talk to her every day,' he said. 'We have managed to become better friends and better parents, and she is my — probably my biggest champion. My most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her.' Looking back at the statement they made in their divorce filing in 2018, it seems Dane and Gayheart haven't had bad blood between them since the beginning. 'After 14 years together, we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family,' Dane said in a statement to People at the time. 'We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us. We kindly ask that you respect our privacy during this time as we navigate the next phase of our lives.' Shortly after his interview with Sawyer, Dane made his red carpet debut with his girlfriend, filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff. The two attended the premiere of Dane's new show Countdown, side by side. The two, per Entertainment Tonight, have been on and off for the past three years. 'The two have been in an on-and-off relationship for over three years and care deeply for each other,' the source said. 'Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him.' Looks like there's nothing but love for Dane during his health struggles. Eric Dane Reveals the Heartbreaking Detail About Parenting Amid His ALS Diagnosis

Euphoria Eric Dane revealed his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis to the world in April and his first sit-down interview with Good Morning America (GMA) on June 16 is uncovering some heartbreaking details. The 52-year-old actor shares two daughters with wife Rebecca Gayheart: Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, and that's who he thinks about most in his battle with the fatal neurodegenerative disease. After his dad died by suicide when Dane was seven, he's crushed by the thought that his children might share that same experience — losing a parent at a tender age. 'And now, you know, there's a very good chance I'm going to be taken from my girls while they're very young.' The reality of what was happening to him took a terrifying turn a few months ago while he was out on a boat trip with his youngest daughter. As a former competitive swimmer and water polo athlete, Dane has always been comfortable in the water. He's at the point in his disease where he's lost the function of his right arm and realized that he 'couldn't generate enough power to get myself back to the boat.' It was Georgia who had to save him. 'I realized I am not safe in the water anymore. She dragged me back to the boat,' he added. 'I was breaking down in tears and so, I made sure she got back in the water with her friends and continued on with the snorkeling with the guide. I was just, I was, like, heartbroken.' Gayheart stepped up as his consistent rock after their seven-year separation which began in 2018 with her divorce filing. 'After 14 years together we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family,' Dane said in a statement to People. 'We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us.' Their co-parenting relationship was steady through the years, but in March 2025, she requested to dismiss her divorce amid his ALS diagnosis. The former Grey's Anatomy star sang her praises in his GMA interview. 'We have managed to become better friends and better parents,' he continued. 'She is probably my biggest champion and my most stalwart supporter and I lean on her.' According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is 'a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control.' The disease gets worse over time and there is no cure.
