Actor Eric Dane says disease has taken all function in right arm

ALS has robbed Eric Dane (pic) of functioning in his right arm and is creeping through his left, the actor said in an emotional interview about the diagnosis he revealed in April. The symptoms began rather subtly about a year and a half ago, the Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy star told Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America in an interview that aired Monday morning. He is looking to raise awareness about the disease. 'I started experiencing some weakness in my right hand,' said Dane, 52. 'And I didn't really think anything of it at the time. I thought maybe I'd been texting too much, and my hand was fatigued.' It didn't go away, however, leading to a string of specialist visits that culminated nine months later with a diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease for the Yankees Hall of Fame player who died of it in 1941. 'A few weeks later I noticed it had gotten a little worse,' Dane recounted. 'So I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist, and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist, who said, 'This is way above my pay grade.' ' Now, his right arm has 'completely stopped working,' the actor said. 'I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won't have my left hand either.' The letters ALS are burned into Dane's brain. 'I will never forget those three letters,' the veteran actor told Sawyer. 'It's on me the second I wake up.' The rare motor neuron disease affects nerve cells, weakening the muscles and leading to paralysis that eventually extends to the muscles that control speaking, eating and breathing, the Mayo Clinic explains. Dane is weathering this storm with the help of his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and their daughters Billie Beatrice, 15, and Georgia Geraldine, 13. He said the diagnosis really hit home a few months ago during a boat trip with one of his daughters, when he jumped into ocean and realised he couldn't make it back to the boat on his own. 'I realised in that moment, I'm not safe in the water anymore,' he said. His daughter dragged him back, and he made sure she returned to the water to finish her snorkeling session with the guide. 'But I was just heartbroken.' Nonetheless, Dane is determined to keep working as long as he is able. 'I don't think this is the end of my story,' he told Sawyer. 'In my heart I just don't feel like this is the end of me. I'm fighting as much as I can.' At the same time, he allowed, 'There's so much about it that's out of my control.' – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

'Going back to my roots': Aussie supermodel Jess Hart says she wants to raise her children, Baby-Rae and Glorious, in Ballarat after decades overseas

Australian supermodel Jess Hart has revealed she plans to return home and raise her children in Australia, after spending more than two decades living abroad. The 39-year-old, who was born in Sydney and raised in Melbourne, has lived overseas since she was a teenager, first moving to Paris at age 15 to pursue her modelling career after winning Dolly magazine's Model Search in 2000. Hart's career took off quickly, with high-profile campaigns for brands including Victoria's Secret, Guess, L'Oréal, Louis Vuitton and Max Mara. She's graced the pages of Vogue and Sports Illustrated, and called cities like London, New York and Los Angeles home. But now, with four-year-old daughter Baby-Rae, three-year-old son Glorious, and 11-year-old stepdaughter Wren in tow, Hart says she's preparing to lay down roots back in Victoria. "I want my children to be half-Australian and half-American- not just Americans with Australian passports," she told Harper's Bazaar. "I want them to be immersed in Australian culture and grow up the way we did." The supermodel, known for her cheeky gap-toothed grin, is reportedly eyeing a permanent base near Ballarat in regional Victoria- the same area where her late mother Rae's family once lived. Rae tragically died in January 2023 after a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disorder formerly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. "It would make my mum so happy," Hart said. "[The region is] where her family had homes. I'm going back to my roots, my heritage." She also revealed she's currently exploring schooling options that would allow the family to split their time between both countries. While it's unclear whether Hart and her longtime partner, American NASCAR driver James Kirkham, are still together, she's made no secret of her desire to reconnect with Australia. In September, Hart starred in a Qantas campaign alongside First Nations model Charlee Fraser, with creative direction from Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin. When asked what she misses most about home, Hart quickly responded: "My friends and family." More recently, the supermodel shared a string of sweet snaps from her trip back to Australia on Instagram, including time spent at Sydney's Crown with her children. "Three little monkeys…. Just busy creating winter memories in Australia," she captioned the post. She also made an appearance at Australian Fashion Week in May, opening the Bianca Spender show to the delight of fashion insiders.

Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend 'blindsided' by his red carpet debut with new romance amid ALS battle

Eric Dane 's alleged girlfriend Priya Jain has been left 'blindsided' after the actor made his carpet debut with a new romance this week in Los Angeles. The Euphoria actor, 52 - who unveiled shock amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis in April - was seen attending the premiere of his new show Countdown on Wednesday, but was notably joined by filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff. He flashed a cheerful smile as he posed for a brief photo session and cozied up with Janell at the event. But Dane's alleged partner Priya Jain was left 'blindsided' - with a source telling Page Six on Thursday that, 'They never broke up.' Eric was first linked to the actress late last year in November, following his separation from estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart. The pair have since called off the divorce amid his ALS battle. The insider further stated that both Dane and Priya became 'exclusive' late last year and she was left 'devastated' following his health diagnosis - but still stayed by his side. According to the source, Eric and Jain have spent nights together at his home - where she also keeps some of her belongings. The pair had spent time together this past weekend - just days before he walked the red carpet with Shirtcliff. Priya was last publicly seen with the actor last month in May as they stepped out in L.A. together. And on Tuesday of this week, the Grey's Anatomy alum was spotted on a date night with Janell at the iconic Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. He was then accompanied by Shirtcliff the following day at the premiere of his latest Amazon Prime Video crime drama series Countdown. The pair were seen gazing lovingly into one another's eyes as they posed together for the cameras, Eric in summery white and Janell in a sleek burgundy cocktail dress. 'The two have been in an on-and-off relationship for over three years and care deeply for each other,' a source recently told Entertainment Tonight. 'Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him,' the insider explained, adding that they are 'extremely close and mean a great deal to one another.' The insider further said that they enjoyed 'a beautiful day together full of laughs, lightness, and love' on Tuesday. While walking the red carpet for his new police procedural on Wednesday, Eric remarked: 'I feel good,' during an interview with Variety. 'It's nice to be here with everybody and see the hours and hours of work that we put into this come alive on screen,' added the Grey's Anatomy alum. His sighting comes after he responded to a query about whether he would continue his career amid his illness by bluntly replying: 'I'm going to ride this till the wheels fall off,' while speaking to E! News on Tuesday. 'It keeps me sharp. It keeps me moving forward, which is super important right now.' Eric insisted he feels 'great when I'm at work' despite losing the function of his dominant right arm in the year since he was diagnosed with ALS. 'Of course, there have been some sort of setbacks,' Dane admitted. 'But I feel pretty good. My spirit is always pretty buoyant, so at the end of the day, that's all that matters.' Back in April, the actor told People: 'I have been diagnosed with ALS. I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.' He then gave a positive update and explained that he still had plans to continue work on set. The shocking news comes two months after Eric and his estranged wife Rebecca Gayheart - with whom he shares daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13 - called off their divorce. In March, Gayheart filed to dismiss the divorce after she had first filed documents to end their marriage back in 2018, per TMZ. The rare and incurable degenerative condition impairs the nervous system over time and causes the muscles to increasingly suffer from paralysis. About half of ALS patients have a life expectancy of three years after the initial onset of symptoms, though some can survive for decades. will fly to Germany and eat the head off a rattlesnake if [doctors] told me that that would help,' Eric told Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer. 'I'll assume the risk'; seen in 2022 in L.A. The Bad Boys: Ride or Die action star is currently taking medication to slow the symptoms and he's also participating in a research study. 'I will fly to Germany and eat the head off a rattlesnake if [doctors] told me that that would help,' Eric told Good Morning America's Diane Sawyer. 'I'll assume the risk.' Dane fears he will lose function of his left hand 'in a few more months' and he's also 'worried about my legs.' But he added, 'I'm very hopeful, yeah, I don't think this is the end of my story. I'm pretty resilient. I just don't feel, like in my heart, [that] this is the end of me.'

Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend was ‘blindsided' by his red carpet debut with Janell Shirtcliff

Don't miss out on the headlines from Hook Ups & Break Ups. Followed categories will be added to My News. Eric Dane's alleged girlfriend, Priya Jain, was 'blindsided' by his red carpet debut with Janell Shirtcliff, Page Six has exclusively learned. 'They never broke up,' a source told Page Six on Thursday. The actor, 52, brought Shirtcliff to Wednesday's Los Angeles premiere of his new series, Countdown, with a source claiming to Entertainment Tonight that 'the two have been in an on-and-off relationship for over three years and care deeply for each other.' However, Page Six is told it was the first time Jain, 27, had ever heard of the director, 41. Our source said Jain, who has been photographed with Dane multiple times, met him last summer and that they became 'exclusive' in November 2024 — right before he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He announced his diagnosis in April. According to our source, Jain was 'devastated by the diagnosis' but stood by the Grey's Anatomy star's side. Interestingly, ET's source claimed that 'Eric asked Janell to be there for him during this time, and she wanted to show up for him.' It is understood told that since Jain and Dane met, she has spent almost every night at his house, where she has tons of clothes. The source added that the actress has even spent time with Dane's kids — daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13 — whom he shares with Rebecca Gayheart. Gayheart, 53, has since clarified that she and her on-again, off-again husband are 'staying a family' and remain the 'best of friends.' Not only did Jain and Dane get matching star tattoos late last year, but the Euphoria star also gave her a tattoo with an at-home tattoo gun shortly after, it was claimed. The source added that the last time they saw each other was this past weekend, while the last time they were photographed together was mid-May. Reps for Dane, Jain and Shirtcliff did not immediately respond to Page Six's requests for comment.
