Directed by Yorgos Tsemberopoulos and produced by Tanweer Productions, Stelios stars Christos Mastoras, lead singer of the band Melisses, as Kazantzidis. Since its release in Greece in December, Stelios has passed 920,000 admissions, quickly climbing the local charts to become the fourth highest-grossing Greek film of all time.
The film explores Kazantzakis's unique life story, from his childhood as a Pontus refugee to his start in the music business and how he became one of Greece's most beloved artists. Best known for his tunes which mixed Greek rebetiko and laïko traditions, Kazantzakis was regarded as the voice of the people. His songs often explored themes of love, migration, and resilience.
Such was his quiet yet global popularity, Frank Sinatra is often quoted to have said of Kazantzidis: 'If Stelios Kazantzidis had been in the United States, he would have had a bigger career than me.'
Stelios is co-produced by Aegean Oil, Finos Film, Cosmote TV, Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center- Creative Greece, Stardust Effects, and Black Orange, with sponsorship from Custom Productions, DEI, the Greek National Tourism Organization, and the Hellenic Healthcare Group.
In addition to opening in the US and Canada, Stelios is set for theatrical release in the United Kingdom (Two Fresh), Germany, Switzerland and Austria (Kinostar), the Netherlands (Kinepolis), Turkey (The Moments Entertainment), Australia (Palace Cinamas), Israel (Tulip Entertainment), with deals being set for South Africa and Central and Eastern Europe.
'Stelios Kazantzidis is not just a musician – he is a voice of resilience, hope, and passion that has defined Greek culture for generations,' Tsemberopoulos said in a statement. 'This film is a tribute to his legacy, and we are thrilled to share it with audiences around the world.'
Firestorm Entertainment is the theatrical distribution label founded and run by industry veterans Amorette Jones, Evan Saxon, and Joe Garel — the distribution and marketing team behind the hit Filipino drama Hello, Love, Again.
Producer Dionyssis Samiotis added: 'The overwhelming response in Greece proves the lasting impact of Stelios Kazantzidis' music. His voice spoke to the soul of the nation, and this film captures his incredible journey.'

Love Island USA Season 7 Claims Over 1 Billion Minutes Streamed
is taking over our lives yet another summer, and we can't be mad about it. Season 7 is riding the high of last year's fan-favorite group of Islanders, and they had big shoes to fill. Thankfully, the singles came to Fiji with a mission — make connections and stir up a little drama. From Huda Mustafa and Jeremiah Brown's whirlwind relationship to Ace Greene and Amaya Espinal's frenemy-ship, there's been a lot to take in so far. Apparently, fans are so obsessed with Love Island that we're watching a record-breaking amount of episodes. In a span of less than a week, Love Island USA had 1.2 billion minutes streamed across the nine episodes available, Deadline reports. Luminate looked at streaming minutes from June 6 to 12 to determine the total. It's the second most-watched streaming show on TV. So, fans are obsessing over tuning in to see what tricks Ariana Madix has up her sleeves next. That definitely makes us feel better about our TV watching habits. It's hard to believe that fans have already watched a billion minutes, and the season hasn't even been on for three weeks yet. That means thousands of people have witnessed antics like Taylor Williams bursting out of his straps after being seduced by Olandria Carthen. It's also a whole lot of people who have seen Huda crash out. Yikes. It took Season 6 nearly a month to crack a billion minutes viewed, so Season 7 is off to a strong start. Surely, with the way things are going in the villa these days, it won't take us long to rack up another billion minutes on this season alone. Love Island USA Season 7 is available to stream on Peacock. TELL US – ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE TUNING INTO LOVE ISLAND SEASON 7? DO YOU PREFER SEASON 6 OR 7 OF THE SHOW SO FAR? 'Étoile' Stars Gideon Glick and Luke Kirby Reflect on Canceled Series, Dance Immersion, and Palladino Magic
Actors Gideon Glick and Luke Kirby of the Prime Video series 'Étoile' recently discussed the show's first season with Los Angeles Times moderator Matt Brennan. The Q&A, held on June 11 at the NeueHouse in Hollywood, covered various aspects of the series, which is set in New York City and Paris and follows two ballet companies swapping their star dancers to save their institutions. Glick and Kirby revealed they learned of the show's cancellation shortly before Glick received an award for the series. Both actors shared their introduction to the dance world for their roles; Glick, from musical theater, shadowed choreographers, while Kirby, with family ties to dance, took ballet classes, gaining appreciation for the art form's physicality and dedication. A significant part of the discussion focused on their collaboration with creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, with whom they previously worked on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Glick likened the Palladinos' writing to Steven Sondheim, noting, 'It is all there and it's so well constructed and it's psychologically potent that for an actor it's pretty much a dream.' Kirby compared it to Shakespeare, explaining, 'You don't do the text, the text does you ... things are revealed in the writing in the moment.' Glick, who also worked in the 'Étoile' writer's room, described Amy Sherman-Palladino's creative bursts as 'being struck by lightning,' with dialogue 'spitting out almost word for word.' He also shared that his character, Tobias, was specifically written for him, an experience he called 'pretty life-changing' that expanded his ambitions to include writing. The actors also reflected on filming in Paris. Glick, who is hearing impaired, found the French accents challenging but noted, 'I did feel a little isolated and I felt it really helped me stay in Tobias's mind.' Kirby described the experience as 'just great to be in Paris,' highlighting the dedication of the French crew and the 'rare gift' of working with international talent. They reminisced about shooting pivotal romantic scenes, with Glick calling it 'the most magical day of shooting.' Kirby, recalling his scene, praised his co-star Lou de Laâge: 'Lou is exceptional and I was staggered by her, always staggered by her talent.' Finally, they touched upon the show's theme of art as a form of 'insanity' or 'ecstasy.' Glick described the creative process as sometimes 'manic,' akin to the Greek word 'ecstasis,' meaning 'to leave the body.' Kirby said, 'I think it's a shame if you've never been insane ... it's a great gift to know you have that option.' They concluded by expressing profound gratitude for the collaborative and enriching experience of making 'Étoile,' with Glick stating, 'It was one of the greatest artistic experiences of my life. Everybody was extraordinary.' Kirby added, 'I think it asserted the whisper that we all have within us. And to listen to the whisper, don't shut it down.'
