Ashlee Simpson Shares Update on Sister Jessica Simpson Amid Eric Johnson Separation: ‘So Proud'

Yahoo12-02-2025

Ashlee Simpson Ross is cheering on her big sister, Jessica Simpson, amid her separation from estranged husband Eric Johnson.
The 'Pieces of Me' singer, 40, said that Jessica, 44, was in the 'best, best spirits' during an interview with Us Weekly published on Thursday, February 6.
'I just did an interview with her today. She has music coming, and it was so exciting. And I'm so proud of her,' Ashlee continued. 'We are strong little ladies, and, you know, I think that's a cool thing about life is just always growing and finding yourself, wherever that's supposed to be.'
Ashlee's words of encouragement came a little less than a month after the 'I Wanna Love You Forever' singer confirmed that she and Eric, 46, were separating.
'Eric and I have been living separately, navigating a painful situation in our marriage,' Jessica told People in a statement published on January 13. 'Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.'
Rumors of trouble in the Dukes of Hazzard star's marriage began when she failed to acknowledge Eric's birthday in September of last year on social media. Instead, she shared a clip of a preacher talking about forgiveness.
'Forgiveness doesn't change the person who hurt you. Are you listening to me?' the preacher said. 'Forgiveness doesn't change that person. Forgiveness changes you. Guess what forgiveness does not do? Forgiveness does not mean you forget. One of the most crazy theories is that you forgive and forget. You don't forget, but you do have the opportunity to forgive every time you remember.'
Jessica was later spotted without her wedding ring, and she continued to fuel the speculation when she posted a cryptic message via Instagram about her return to music on November 11, 2024.
'Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,' Jessica wrote alongside a photo of herself in a white dress and black over-the-knee boots. 'This comeback is personal, it's an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.'
The following day, a source exclusively revealed to Life & Style that Jessica and the former NFL player's marriage was essentially over.
'Jessica has been reevaluating her happiness, her marriage and her business empire, and she is ready to start fresh,' the insider explained on November 12, 2024. 'It's pretty much over between her and Eric; it's only a matter of time before she files for divorce.'
Almost two weeks later, a separate source told Life & Style that Jessica had turned to Ashlee for advice about what to do regarding her crumbling relationship.
'Jessica's needing advice and support, and Ashlee's being there for her, picking up the phone when Jessica calls, taking Jessica shopping, and volunteering to look after the kids,' the insider said at the time. 'Ashlee has that street-smart edge, and she knows a few things. Ashlee is listening but she's also reminding Jessica of Eric's good qualities and giving Jessica a lot of food for thought.'

Jam expert Donna Collins trashes Meghan Markle's As Ever apricot spread: ‘There's no excuse for this'

The queen of jam has spoken. Jam expert Donna Collins trashed the new apricot spread from Meghan Markle's As Ever lifestyle brand. 'It's a real disappointment that Meghan is selling a fruit spread, which is what you make when your jam fails,' Collins said, according to the Daily Mail. 9 Donna Collins. 'It can have the best ingredients, but if I had a jam that was too runny, I'd slap a label on it and call it a spread.' 'There's no excuse for this,' Collins added. The 'MasterChef' alum, who has reportedly won over 40 world championship honors in jam-making competitions, also called out Markle, 43, for her 'conventionally grown apricots, which will have used pesticides.' 'And why is she using pectin, which is a gelling agent, unless it's because her spread was too runny?' Collins asked. 'Most spreads don't use pectin.' 9 Meghan Markle's homemade jam. @heatherdorak/Instagram On Friday, Markle released her new apricot spread in an individual jar for $9 and keepsake packaging for $14. Both items quickly sold out. 'Her apricot spread sold out in minutes, just like her earlier raspberry spread, which may mean they only made a small batch,' Collins surmised. 'I don't know who's making her spread,' the jam guru continued, 'but we all know it's not Meghan. It sounds like they really don't know what they are doing.' 9 Meghan Markle cooking in her kitchen. meghan/Instagram The Post has reached out to Markle's reps for comment. Alligator on Florida golf course takes victory lap with stolen club

Footage has surfaced showing an alligator traversing a Florida pond while displaying a golf club like a trophy. Presumably, the golfer is OK. The footage, shared by WINK News meteorologist Matt Devitt, was captured at an Orlando golf course recently by a WINK viewer named Doug. 'Only in Florida,' Devitt joked via Instagram. 'I'd let him play through.' It's unclear if the alligator stole the club from a bag, if the club had been left near the pond, or if the golfer had tossed the club into the water during a tantrum. It's also unclear if the voice in the audio belongs to the golfer who lost the club. While alligator sightings on Florida golf courses are fairly routine, this was extraordinary. It looks as though the gator is using the club as a snorkel or, as one follower remarked, a periscope. The top Instagram comment, predictably, reads: 'What happened to the golfer?'

Jussie Smollett reveals he's engaged to actor Jabari Redd: 'He said YES'

Jussie Smollett celebrated his birthday as an engaged man. The former "Empire" star, 43, revealed in an Instagram post that he is engaged to actor Jabari Redd. Smollett shared a gallery of photos showing himself down on one knee and presenting a ring to Redd, who looked elated. "I'll be spending my birthday with my Fiancé … He said YES. 💍," Smollett, who turned 43 on Saturday, June 21, wrote in the caption. Redd has appeared on shows like Showtime's "The Chi" and starred in "The Lost Holliday," a 2024 film directed by and starring Smollett. Smollett's sister Jurnee Smollett celebrated his engagement in the comments of the Instagram post, writing that she was "screaming with tears of joy!" She added that "my whole heart loves both of you" and welcomed Redd "to the family." Smollett's sister Jazz Smollett also commented, "Yaaaass!!! Welcome to the family Jabari!!! Love y'all!! Sooooo happy for you both." Jussie Smollett conviction in hate crime hoax overturned by Illinois Supreme Court The engagement news comes more than six years after Smollett was accused of staging a fake hate crime against himself in 2019. He claimed at the time that he was attacked by men who yelled homophobic slurs at him in Chicago. Jussie Smollett says he has 'to move forward' after alleged hate crime hoax Smollett was charged with lying to police about the attack, and he was convicted of felony disorderly conduct in 2021. But in November 2024, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned the actor's conviction, determining that he should not have been charged a second time for the same incident after charges against him were initially dropped in 2019. Smollett has repeatedly denied staging the hate crime and has maintained that the attack was real. Smollett reached a civil settlement with the city of Chicago earlier this year, according to NBC News. In a statement released on Instagram, the actor said he would pay $50,000 to a local nonprofit. "What I have to do now is move forward," he said. "I will continue creating my art, fighting passionately for causes I hold dear and defending my integrity and family name with the truth." Smollett previously told People magazine in an interview in September 2024, "I've moved on and I know that the world, one day, and it might be long after I'm gone, who knows, but one day the world is going to fix this. I just can't wait for that to happen because I have a life to live. But the world is going to fix it all."
