Indiramma houses: Telangana finalises beneficiaries, begins construction
Hyderabad: Telangana housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the state govt has finalised the list of 2.10 lakh beneficiaries for sanctioning the Indiramma houses, and construction of 24,000 houses had already begun.
He mentioned that about 100 houses were in the final stages of construction and were ready for inauguration.
During an informal chat with media personnel on Friday, the minister stated that the state govt was giving priority to the opposition party MLAs' assembly constituencies as well, and the MLAs were asked to provide the list of beneficiaries. "Of the total houses allotted, 40% will be allocated based on the recommendations of the respective MLAs, and the rest will be selected by the Indiramma committees," the minister said.
He added that the govt also asked Sircilla MLA and ex-minister KTR to provide the list of beneficiaries, but he did not want to give any recommendation.
Srinivas Reddy mentioned that of the total houses, about 9,200 would be given to Chenchu tribals in the agency areas, adding that chief minister A Revanth Reddy wanted more allocations to these areas. The housing minister said the state govt was considering constructing multi-storey buildings (G+4) for slum dwellers in the identified 16 locations in Hyderabad and other major towns like Warangal, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, and Nizamabad.
He also stated that the govt would soon constitute a price fixation committee for Indiramma houses.

Telangana Minister Vivek Venkataswamy highlights welfare initiatives by govt for the Poor
Minister Vivek Venkataswamy has reiterated the Congress government's commitment to the welfare of the underprivileged during a recent event in Siddipet. Speaking at Konda Bhudevi Garden, he announced the provision of Rs. 5 lakhs for every Indiramma house, with 12,000 houses sanctioned for Siddipet district alone. He emphasised the aim to ensure that every village benefits from the Indiramma housing scheme, initially launched by Indira Gandhi to combat poverty. The Minister noted that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi have enacted policies to provide 200 units of free electricity, further aiding the lower-income population. In a drive to uplift the poor, Minister Venkataswamy distributed sanction documents for Indiramma houses and confirmed plans for skill development programmes employing advanced technology in Siddipet. He acknowledged public scepticism regarding the Congress government's ability to fulfil its promises but pledged that the government would uphold its commitments. Highlighting other welfare initiatives, he detailed the assistance for women, including gas cylinders for Rs. 500 and free bus services. He mentioned the comprehensive loan waiver of Rs. 23,000 crores for farmers, a record in India, as well as the release of Rs. 10,000 crores for farmer insurance by CM Revanth Reddy. Furthermore, the Rajiv Arogya Sri scheme now offers up to Rs. 10 lakhs in health coverage, and farmers growing sorghum are receiving a bonus of Rs. 500. Additionally, Venkataswamy revealed that sorghum is being distributed to the needy through ration cards. The government is dedicated to constructing homes for every poor individual on plots of 600 yards. He stressed the importance of beneficiary participation in ensuring adequate construction of the houses, reiterating the strict implementation of the Indiramma scheme. Earlier, he had also distributed sanction documents to beneficiaries of Indiramma Indla in Gajwel, where a budget has been allocated for 3,000 double-bedroom houses. In his address, he reiterated the government's commitment to education, healthcare, housing, and farmer welfare.

Telangana local body elections: Grassroots mobilisation a concern for BJP
HYDERABAD: As Telangana gears up for local body elections, the BJP is bracing for a litmus test, with its performance likely to set the tone for the next Assembly polls. While the party aims to consolidate its position in the state, insiders reveal significant challenges in converting its recent electoral gains into a traditional vote bank. The ruling Congress is leaving no stone unturned to secure maximum seats in the local body polls, leveraging its welfare schemes such as Indiramma houses, quality PDS rice, Rajiv Yuva Vikas loans and unrestricted Rythu Bharosa payments. Meanwhile, the BRS, which has a strong rural base and won 38 Assembly seats in the last elections, remains a formidable opponent. Despite the hurdles, BJP leaders point to their recent successes — winning eight Assembly and eight Lok Sabha seats, mostly from rural segments — as a sign of growing influence. This apart, its victory in two MLC seats — graduates and teachers segments — has bolstered confidence that educated voters and younger generations are leaning towards the saffron party.

Eligible families in KCR's adopted village get Indiramma Houses
Hyderabad: Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy on Wednesday announced that the Congress government has sanctioned Indiramma houses to all eligible families in Vasalamarri village of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, the village once adopted by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The Minister, who is set to personally distribute sanction letters to 205 beneficiaries on Thursday, said the Congress government under CM Revanth Reddy is standing by those who were 'betrayed' in the name of development during the previous BRS regime. 'On November 1, 2020, then CM KCR adopted Vasalamarri village. Later, on June 22, 2021, he held a Gram Sabha and shared a community meal with the villagers, promising to develop it into a 'Golden Vasalamarri' and build double-bedroom houses for every family. However, KCR failed to keep his word, as not a single house was built during his tenure. Worse, several homes were demolished on either side of the road for the expansion of the route to KCR's farmhouse, leaving many families homeless. Those affected have been living in makeshift huts and tents ever since. They lost what little they had, and the promise of a model village remained just that, a promise,' Ponguleti recalled. Criticising former Chief Minister KCR, Minister Ponguleti said, 'Vasalamarri clearly shows how people's hopes were used for political gain. KCR said he would set an example for the whole country, but he couldn't even fulfil promises in the village he adopted.' The Minister said that under CM Revanth Reddy's directive, a fresh survey was conducted in the village, and 205 eligible families were identified for Indiramma housing. 'These houses have now been sanctioned. I will personally hand over the approval letters to the beneficiaries,' he said. The Minister reiterated the Congress government's commitment to welfare and inclusive development, stating that the Indiramma housing initiative is being revived to ensure that no deserving family is left without a home.
