Silver climbs Rs 2,000 to lifetime high; Gold up Rs 430

New Delhi: Silver prices hit a lifetime high of Rs1,04,100 per kilogram in the national capital on Thursday, and gold prices jumped Rs430 in line with strong global cues, according to the All India Sarafa Association. Continuing the winning run for the fourth straight session, the white metal bounced Rs2,000 to hit a fresh peak of Rs1,04,100 per kilogram (inclusive of all taxes) in the local markets. HDFC Securities' Senior Analyst of Commodities Saumil Gandhi said the 'price of silver reached a new all-time high in the domestic market.
The rally is supported by strong fundamentals, higher industrial demand, inflation hedging, and tight global supply'. On March 19, silver hit its previous all-time high of Rs1,03,500 per kg. Gold of 99.9 per cent purity appreciated Rs430 to Rs99,690 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes). The precious metal of 99.5 per cent purity increased Rs400 to Rs99,100 per 10 grams (inclusive of all taxes) on Thursday.
The most traded July contract for silver futures rallied by Rs3,833, or 3.78 per cent, to hit an all-time high of Rs1,05,213 per kg on the Multi Commodity Exchange. Additionally, gold futures for August contracts climbed Rs635 to Rs99,214 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, spot gold in the international markets rose $21.58 per ounce, or 0.64 per cent, to $3,393.93 per ounce.
'Gold prices traded higher, supported by a weaker dollar and renewed safe-haven demand amid lingering tariff uncertainty and US debt concerns. Globally, gold scaled above $3,395 per ounce, while MCX gold gained to trade above Rs98,450,' Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst, Commodity and Currency at LKP Securities, said. The broader sentiment in the bullion space remains positive, driven by geopolitical tensions and ongoing imbalance in global trade and financial dynamics, Trivedi added.
Also, spot silver went up nearly 4 per cent to trade at $35.80 per ounce in the overseas markets. 'Spot silver has surpassed the previous resistance level of $35 per ounce and is trading above that mark, reaching a 12-year high,' Gandhi said. According to Abans Financial Services' Chief Executive Officer Chintan Mehta, investors are focused on Friday's US non-farm payroll report for further clues on the Federal Reserve's monetary policy direction. In addition, any new geopolitical developments could add another layer of uncertainty, once again driving investors toward the safe haven of gold, Mehta said

Weekly charts suggest positive momentum

The equities rebounded on the weekend and broke the 3-day losing streak. The Nifty gained by 393.80 points or 1.59 per cent. BSE Sensex also gained by 1.59 per cent. The broader market was weak, as the Midcap-100 and Smallcap-100 declined by 0.40 per cent, and 0.98 per cent. On the sectoral front, the Nifty Auto is the top gainer, with a 1.51 per cent increase, followed by IT with a 1.36 per cent rise. The Banknifty and FinNifty advanced by 1.36 per cent and 1.19 per cent, respectively. On the flip side, the Nifty Pharma is down by 1.69 per cent, and Metal fell by 1.30 per cent. The Energy and FMCG declined by 0.39 per cent and 0.19 per cent, respectively. The market breadth is mostly negative. The India VIX is down by 9.33 per cent to 13.67. The FIIs bought Rs3,897.21 crores, and the DIIs bought Rs56,786.30 crores worth of equities in this month. The Nifty has formed strong bull candles on the weekly and daily time frames. Before closing near the pivot, the index oscillated around the 20 DMA. A massive spurt in volumes on Friday indicates renewed buying support. The FIIs bought Rs.7940.70 crore worth of equities on Friday, which supports the volume spurt. The Nifty is still in the consolidation range, but closing near the pivot, indicates a probable breakout. The previous week's low of 24473, which formed on a negative(Israel-Iran War beginning) news. All the recent lows are formed on a negative news flow. The market discounted the war implications. During the consolidation, all the big bull candles were followed by a series of bearish candles. If the index closes above 24222 decisively, with a volume support, it will result in a massive rally. As stated earlier, the undertone is strongly bullish. The worry is... last week's weakness in the broader market. The midcap and smallcaps underperformed, showing poor relative strength and loss of momentum. On a weekly chart, the 10-week average is in a strong uptrend. The RSI is back into the above 60 zone, which is an indication of a strong uptrend. Interestingly, this trend strength is not reflected in the Directional Movement Index. The ADX, +DMI and -DMIs are declining. The daily ADX is also declining. This is an interesting technical development to watch. The India VIX is back to the lower range of 13.67. This volatility index has an inverse relationship with the benchmark index. In the recent past, whenever the VIX declines below 13, it tends to decline from the highs. For the last two weeks, the global markets have also been weak and have failed to sustain the opening gains. The crude oil prices will influence the equity markets. The closure of the Hormuz Strait will impact the oil supplies. Keep an eye on geopolitical events and crude oil movements that can affect the equity market. For a decisive uptrend, the Bulls must close above the 24222 - 307 zone of resistance. If it sustains above this zone for a week, we will test the new high. The new target is at 26800. In any case, the index declines below the 10-week average of 24570, will be negative and will resume the downside. It is better to stay with a positive bias as long as it is in the consolidation range, as the internal strength is strong. The sector rotation is perfectly going on as the traditional defensives are in the limelight. The India Defence stocks are in focus too. As the RBI pushes liquidity in the market, the Banks and financials are also in focus. Indian rupee, bonds under pressure as US strike on Iran deepens Middle East conflict

The Indian rupee and government bonds are poised to face pressure this week following a U.S. strike on Iran, raising concerns of higher oil prices and potential retaliation that could deepen the conflict in the Middle East. ADVERTISEMENT The rupee had closed at 86.5850 against the U.S. dollar on Friday, down 0.6% on the week. U.S. President Donald Trump said late on Saturday that the country had struck Iran's main nuclear sites, aligning with an Israeli offensive in a significant escalation of the ongoing Middle East tensions. Tehran called the attack a grave violation of international law and vowed to defend itself. In a televised address, Trump warned Iran against retaliating, stating that any response would trigger further attacks unless Iran agreed to pursue peace. Concerns over a potential escalation of the conflict had already driven oil prices higher this month, and analysts now anticipate an additional increase of $3 to $5 per barrel in reaction to the U.S. strikes. ADVERTISEMENT Brent crude oil futures closed at $77 per barrel on Friday, up nearly 4% on week. Elevated energy prices are a pain point for the Indian rupee and government bonds, as oil is a major component of India's import bill. ADVERTISEMENT A "flight to safety is likely to reinforce the dollar's strength against the Indian rupee and other major currencies," said Dilip Parmar, a foreign exchange research analyst at HDFC Securities. The rupee could weaken towards 87.50 in the near-term, Parmar added. Traders reckon that the Reserve Bank of India would likely step in to curb excessive volatility. ADVERTISEMENT The rupee may find immediate support around 87.50-87.60 but will remain acutely sensitive to developments in the Middle East, said a trader at a state-run bank. Foreign portfolio flows related to a upcoming large IPO alongside remarks from U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, scheduled for Tuesday, will be among other cues in focus for the rupee this week. ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, India's 10-year benchmark 6.33% 2035 bond yield ended at 6.3087% on Friday. Traders expect it to move in a range of 6.30% to 6.40% this week. "A $10 per barrel rise in crude could widen India's current account deficit by 0.3% of GDP and elevate inflation, eroding real yields," CR Forex said. Earlier this month, the RBI reduced its inflation forecast for the current fiscal year to 3.7% and cut its key lending rate by a steeper-than-expected 50 basis points. A big rate cut would assure stakeholders of India's focus on economic growth and aid in faster transmission, members of rate setting panel wrote in the June policy minutes. However, it reverted to a "neutral" stance from "accommodative", prompting analysts to forecast an end to the monetary easing cycle. "International uncertainties make RBI think it is necessary to front load the monetary easing to boost growth. But RBI may take longer to see the impact before implementing another cut going forward. Looking forward, we see RBI to stay on hold for next few months, said Alaa Bushehri, head of emerging market Debt, BNP Paribas Asset Management. Man, son from Guntur accused of duping city Pune firm's CEO of 4 crore

1 2 3 Pune: The Bavdhan police on Saturday registered a case against a man and his son, hailing from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, on charges of duping a 33-year-old CEO of an industrial automation and robotics company in the city of Rs3.98 crore. The victim was lured by the promise of high returns on his investments in the share market. Inspector Bhaskar Kadam of the Bavdhan police told TOI, "According to the complainant, the father-son duo were family friends. Initially, they returned Rs1 crore to him and gained his confidence. The duo then duped him by not returning Rs3.98 crore." The economic offences wing (EOW) of Pimpri Chinchwad police is investigating the case. Kadam said that according to the complainant, the duo hail from Guntur district. The complainant's mother and older suspect (father) used to teach together at a college in Nanded district. Their families have known each other since then. "The complainant stated that in Jan 2023, the man contacted them and said he and his son started a financial services firm in Andhra Pradesh. He assured them of good returns on their investments in the stock market through the firm," Kadam said. The officer said the complainant believed them and decided to invest money in stocks through them. Between Jan 2023 and July 2024, the complainant transferred Rs4.98 crore to the suspects to invest in stocks. The complainant did not suspect anything as initially, the duo returned Rs1 crore to him. "The duo used to share details of the investments through fake email IDs posing as a prominent securities and trading firm," the officer said. Kadam said the duo even sent a contact note (record of all transactions through stock brokers on the stock exchange) to the complainant, which later turned out to be fake. When the victim realised that he was being duped, he started asking them to return the money. When he did not get his money back, he approached the police and lodged a complaint.
