Pune: The Kalewadi police on Thursday arrested a woman (32) on charge of abetting the suicide of her husband and later dumping his body near Darumbre village in Maval taluka. She used a man's (21) help for the job, with whom she was having an illicit relationship.
Senior police inspector Rajendra Bahirat of the Kalewadi police said, "We also detained a minor who helped the woman's partner dump the victim's body."
Bahirat said that the victim's body was found at Darumbre village on June 17. Shirgaon police ascertained his identity with the Aadhaar card found with him. "The victim was from Buldhana district. The victim's son told the Shirgaon police that his father went to Pune to meet his wife, who stays in Thergaon.
The man's son also told the police that his mother used to abuse his father," Bahirat said.
After getting information from the Shirgaon police, assistant police inspector Vaibhav Gurav of the Kalewadi police and his team went to the Jagtapnagar area in Thergaon, the place where the victim's wife was staying with her partner in rented accommodation. "During the questioning, the woman revealed that her husband hung himself in her partner's house and the body was later dumped.

The post-mortem report confirmed that it was a case of suicide," he said.
API Gurav said that the woman, who works at a private hospital, was in a relationship with her neighbour. Her husband was an alcoholic and was doing odd jobs in Buldhana. "The woman later shifted to her neighbour's house and started living with him. The woman's husband came to Thergaon a few days ago and he was also staying in the same room," said Gurav.
He said that the woman's son (18), who is the complainant in the case, told the police that before the death, his father contacted him and told him that the latter's mother was abusing him and wanted to end his life. "Frustrated by the woman's harassment, the man, on the night of June 14, ended his life by hanging himself," he said.
Gurav said that the next day, the woman's partner and his minor accomplice took the body to Darumbre village on a motorcycle and dumped it at a secluded spot. "Investigations revealed that the victim was alone in the room when he hung himself," Gurav said.
The officer said that the police arrested the woman and her partner under sections 108 (suicide abetment) and 238 (destroying evidence) of the BNS.

PURULIA: Nine people, including two brothers, returning from a wedding died when the SUV carrying them collided head-on with a truck on Dhanbad-Jamshedpur stretch of NH-18 in West Bengal's Purulia early Friday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now All victims were from Jharkhand, reports Tanuja Singh Deo. The group had hired an SUV from Nimdih village in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan to attend a wedding in Purulia's Adabana village. When the guests were heading back home the next morning, their vehicle crashed into an oncoming truck at a curve. The impact of the collision left the SUV mangled, while the truck overturned onto the roadside. Witnesses said the front of the SUV had caved in completely, trapping the passengers within. Balrampur police took the passengers to Banshgar rural health centre, where all nine were declared dead. An Aadhaar card found on one of the deceased led cops to contact their relatives. Noida Sector 21 rape: Father's friends tied, gagged 9-yr-old victim

A nine-year-old rape survivor has revealed harrowing details of her ordeal to police, stating that three of her father's friends tied her hands and gagged her before raping her multiple times over the past month at her Sector 21 home, while her father was away at work. On Friday, the victim's statement was recorded before the court, as her medical reports are awaited, police said. (Representational image) Sharing details of what she told police, her father told HT on Friday that her statement has been recorded before the court, and her medical reports are awaited. The girl's father, a domestic worker living in servant quarters with his three children, said his daughter finally disclosed the abuse last week after suffering from persistent fever. 'Around a week ago, my daughter, who was suffering from continuous fever, told me these men—all of whom worked nearby and frequented our home—assaulted her more than five times while I was at work and her eight-year-old sister was playing outside,' the distraught father said. 'They tied her hands, taped her mouth, and threatened her into silence,' the father added. The single father, separated from his wife for five years, said he was shattered. 'I never imagined my own friends could do this. People say gated societies are safe, but where does that leave poor families like ours?' Noida deputy commissioner of police Yamuna Prasad confirmed that police have recorded statements from all family members, including the victim's younger sister. No evidence so far suggests the eight-year-old was targeted. 'So far, nothing suspicious involving the younger child has come to fore. We're investigating the matter and will act stringently if any additional offences surface,' Prasad said. The three accused—a 35-year-old from Sector 123 who irons clothes, a 50-year-old security guard who lives in Sector 48, and a 55-year-old from Harola who is a driver—were arrested Wednesday after doctors at Sector 30 hospital alerted police that the girl's medical examination revealed evidence of sexual assault. Later, police recorded the statements of the minor before the magistrate and registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 74 for assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 65 for rape, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. .

Bidhannagar cops make body cams, CCTV must for passport verification

Kolkata: Aimed at enhancing transparency and security in the passport verification process, Bidhannagar City Police has made it mandatory for all passport verifications to be conducted under camera surveillance — either through body cams during home visits or CCTV systems in police stations — from this month. The move comes at a time when Kolkata Police is investigating a fake passport racket and have arrested a retired sub-inspector for allegedly clearing applications without proper enquiry and adequate verification. Officers said the move will also help them reduce complaints from residents about officers, civic volunteers and middlemen demanding money or harassing applicants in the name of additional documentation. "Now, all passport verifications are being conducted under body camera surveillance. In the case of home verification, only representatives from the Special Branch are visiting the houses of applicants, and the entire process is being recorded. The footage is being stored until the passport is issued. At police stations, the passport verification process is being conducted strictly under CCTV monitoring with audio recording," said Tauseef Ali Azhar, ADCP SB of Bidhannagar City Police. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo "Whenever we receive specific complaints, we take strict action with zero tolerance. In several instances, we initiated departmental enquiries and took disciplinary action against the officers concerned." The officer added that since May, during passport verification at home, police station, or office, an OTP-based Aadhaar verification system has been introduced through an internal app. "This has made the process more accurate and transparent. The passport verification now undergoes four-five layers of scrutiny — from the verifying officer to the local IC to the police commissioner — ensuring greater accountability," he said. The initiative gains significance in light of a racket that allegedly used forged identity documents to secure genuine Indian passports. The case came to light last Sept when the Kolkata Regional Passport Office flagged nearly 240 suspicious passports issued on the basis of faulty documents. A special probe team of Kolkata Police was formed to investigate the scam, and a charge sheet was submitted in March. Investigators found that police allegedly failed to detect forged documents during verification. On Tuesday, ED carried out raids at multiple locations across Kolkata and its surrounding districts as part of the wider investigation.
