Cancel your bank holiday plans and binge 'outstanding' Amazon Prime thriller

Metro24-05-2025

If you're an Amazon Prime Video subscriber, then cancel your weekend plans because there's a classic BBC crime drama you need to watch.
All three seasons of thriller The Fall have been added to Prime Video, and that means you'll have a better time on the couch this Bank Holiday weekend than you will at the beach.
First aired in 2013, the show follows detective Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson), who is trying to capture Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan), the serial killer responsible for the murders of multiple young professional women in Belfast.
On Google, fans have been recommending 'outstanding in every way' The Fall after it was added to Amazon Prime, free to watch for subscribers.
Among them is Laura Clark, who shared: 'This impeccably acted series is worth a rewatch, even. This is my second time watching it through, and I haven't seen anything of its calibre since. If you enjoy dark, suspenseful dramas because of what they teach you about the human condition and how they resonate with deep, personal feelings, this is the epitome of that.'
Gail Alkovich wrote: 'Outstanding in every way. A truly well-written and superbly acted thriller. Jamie Dornan blows you away with this character, so far removed from the engaging, charming characters he has played. Always loved Gillian Anderson, but have high regard for her talent after seeing her very deep and complex portrayal of this female detective.'
Echoing their sentiment, T D said: 'Best crime show ever. ashtonishingly deep, it explores a wide range of different issues through its characters (top notch performers as well), such as mental illnesses and/or disorders (narcissism, alcoholism, depression, etc). It represents how painful it is to live through our [harmed] inner child, how essential it is to ask for help and receive it from the right people, and also, the multiple forms of one single individual. I could keep going, but I'll let you discover the rest for yourself.'
Dina Brown also added: 'What a shocker of a series. Not for the faint of heart, it's brutal but very well acted. It starts out slow, but trust me, stick with it, because it becomes an amazingly shocking ride.'
The Fall was also a hit with critics, boasting an impressive 85% average score on Rotten Tomatoes' reviews aggregator, the Tomatometer.
Last year, Sex Education actor Gillian, 56, revealed they came 'very close' to producing a fourth season of The Fall but 'couldn't quite crack it.' https://www.instagram.com/p/CsOsyvLsljA/
She told Variety: 'It was one of my favourite characters I ever got to play, and the experience was fantastic with an amazing crew like Allan Cubitt, an incredibly talented writer, who directed the second and third seasons.
'We were re-opening up the idea again a few years ago. I approached them about doing a fourth season, set a few years later. We went down that distance and explored the idea, but couldn't quite crack it. We came very close.
'Many people ask about it, and I believe she's the kind of character we could step into her at any time, so I don't think it's entirely put to bed.'
The Fall is not the only show gripping Amazon Prime Video viewers.
They've also been devouring every episode of family crime drama they claim 'outshines' Peaky Blinders.
Animal Kingdom even stars one of the BBC's show's actors, Finn Cole, who played Michael Gray.
First aired in 2016, the thriller follows Finn's character Joshua 'J' Cody who moves in with his estranged relatives, the Codys, who run a criminal family enterprise in California, after the death of his mother. More Trending
On Reddit, Turbulent-Truth-4059 urged: 'How is no one talking about how good ANIMAL KINGDOM IS🔥🔥🔥 watch it.'
Agreeing, FineJellyfish4321 raved: 'Yes!!! I always recommend it and a lot of people don't even know about it. I didn't until last year, but once I started I was absolutely hooked! That is hands down one of the best shows I've ever seen!'
jwC731 added: 'Highly underrated show imo.'
The Fall is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

King Charles follows Harry and Meghan's footsteps with surprising new move

King Charles has teamed up with an unlikely movie star in a Netflix documentary about the 'power of believing in young people'. The monarch is offering a rare insight into The King's Trust as he celebrates the charity's 50th anniversary alongside Idris Elba. The documentary is set to be broadcast next year with filming to begin next week, according to the Telegraph. This comes after Meghan Markle announced today that she is expanding her As Ever brand with its first alcoholic offering of a rosé wine. The Netflix film is being made in collaboration with The King's Foundation and is being filmed at Dumfries House in Scotland. Made by Elba's own production company, 22 Summers, it will mark the King's first collaboration with Netflix, joining the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who have made several documentaries for the streaming platform. But it will not be his first venture into documentary making. In January it was revealed that the monarch will be appearing in a feature-length film on Amazon Prime about his 'philosophy of harmony'. The Netflix film will also involve young people supported in the trust so that they can build experience in film and TV. The King's Trust began in 1976 when the King used his £7,400 severance pay from the Royal Navy to create The Prince's Trust, helping disadvantaged young people get into education and jobs. Ahead of the documentary, Elba has spoken about how the charity changed his life. The actor was just 16 when he was awarded a £1,500 grant that helped him to train at the National Youth Music Theatre. Despite initially thinking it was a waste of time, he came home from school one day to find a letter containing the money. Discussing the trust and his own charity, the Elba Hope Foundation, he said: 'The King's Trust gave me an opportunity that changed my life. 'At a time when I didn't have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support – including financial help – that helped me take those first steps to advance my career. 'Today, through the Elba Hope Foundation, I'm focused on creating those same opportunities for young people who are full of potential but lacking access. Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open. More Trending 'This documentary is about shining a light on what's possible when it does – and why the work of The King's Trust remains so important.' Earlier this month, the King made an appearance in east London for the city's first ever SXSW festival. The Kingdom Choir, who performed at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding in 2018, sang to Charles while he toured the event in Shoreditch. Good Morning Britain and EastEnders stars join royals for final day of Ascot

A number of celebrities were in attendance at the final day of the Royal Ascot on Saturday - where King Charles and Queen Camilla cheered on the horse racing events Celebrities and Royals mingled together for the 2025 final of the Royal Ascot on Saturday. King Charles III and Queen Camilla were in attendance to oversee an afternoon of high adrenaline - and high stakes - horse racing. His Majesty The King showcased his infamous quintessential style wearing a summer suit - with a pop of colour coming via a pastel yellow waistcoat. The King added a top hat to his look and carried a smart umbrella as the forecast carried a risk of downpours. ‌ Meanwhile the Queen donned a light-weight pleated white dress with a matching white jacket. She completed her look with a white had and white heels - and too was ready for any eventuality on the weather front by carrying an umbrella of her own. ‌ The royal couple arrived via horse drawn carriage and looked in high spirits as they prepared to supervise an afternoon of equestrian sport. Also in attendance was Princess Eugenie, 35, who stood out in a red dress and hat for the day ahead. While a range of celebrities also turned up to watch all the sun-soaked action. Good Morning Britain star Charlotte Hawkins was among those in attendance at the event on Saturday. She sported a floaty, yellow summer dress with a matching coloured hat resting lightly on her head. The TV star has been giving commentary for ITV about the event - and admitted she might sound more knowledgeable when speaking on air than she really is. In a behind-the-scenes post on Instagram, Charlotte revealed how she frantically makes notes about the various VIPs and royals that will be attending the races. She revealed: "Every day, we get sent an email with the carriage list, and we find out who is going to be in each of the carriages. But sometimes, you know, there are some names that we need to explain. Who they are, what they do." ‌ Sharing a look at her cheat sheet, she went on: "I do have this sort of master sheet, which has a whole load of people... And it does become a bit like a craft project, because I get my little handy scissors, I'll snip out who it is, and then I will piece it together on these sheets here. So I'm letting you into all my secrets here." She added: "This is all my own research, but I am actually just double checking that I've remembered exactly who is because there nothing worse than getting your people mixed up and you're talking about something as important as the Royal procession." ‌ Also among the stars in attendance on Saturday was EastEnders icon Rudolph Walker - who has played Patrick Truman on the BBC soap since 2001. The 85-year-old looked dapper in a suit with a cream waistcoat and tie, and a jaunty top hat. She matched her outfit with a pink hat and carried a small silver clutch. ‌ Talking fans through her look on Instagram, the TV star said: "Welcome to Chappers catwalk, getting ready for Royal Ascot today. So let's start off with the hat by Laylaleigh. She made it specially for me... it matches the dress. "And then [hair stylist] Nina [Nikol] has done such a beautiful job on the hair, so you don't see any of the paraphernalia keeping it in place. So together, they really complement each other." ‌ She went on to explain that she got her dress from Self Portrait, her bag from LK Bennett, and her shoes from Zara. She then revealed she would be getting some advice later in the day from her mother. Nicki revealed: "Mummy, you're going to give us some good tips. Yes, she is. She's going to stay here and tell us what we should be betting on. But looking forward to today, absolutely." Punters stood to win impressive prizes by betting on the right horse - while those taking part in the sport could win as much as £1 million if they managed to ride their horse to the finish line fastest. ‌ Reviewing the events, Paddy Power notes: "Every renewal is worth at least £110,000, the minimum value of a Group 1 has been increased to £650,000, while the most lucrative contests of the week boast £1,000,000 funds." Shearing details of the day ahead, the betting company added: "Among the attractions are Treanmor and Moments Of Joy going head-to-head in the opening Chesham Stakes at 14:30, while the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at 15:40 looks a wide-open contest as Lazzat, Inisherin, Santono Reve, Storm Boy and Topgear all have claims." ‌ Despite the Royal Ascot being a fixture in the society diary, horse racing fans were shocked this week when celebrations descended into bloody violence. Two men came to blows at the grounds on Friday, leaving fans stunned. The Daily Mail reported on the violence, revealing: "A group of men attempt to separate the brawling pair. The group could briefly be heard telling the fighting men: 'Stop, stop, boys.' "While one man, dressed in a grey suit, was dragged away, the other was picked up from the ground with blood gushing from his face. "The bloodied racegoer wiped his visage and then bloodied his cream trousers as he seemingly yelled at the man he had fought only moments before." It is unclear what caused the unexpected burst of violence.
