Prime Video is about to lose one of the best Leonardo DiCaprio movies you (probably) haven't watched — stream this 90%-rated war thriller while you still can
'Blood Diamond' is a 2006 movie seared into my psyche. That's not necessarily because I've rewatched it loads of times, but rather it's because for about a decade, my family's DVD copy took up permanent residence on top of our player. I guess we were all too lazy to put the case back in the adjacent bookshelf. Years later, and with that dusty DVD copy probably now in a landfill somewhere or sitting neglected in a thrift store, 'Blood Diamond' is a movie I don't hear people talk about very often. In some ways, that's a little surprising considering it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly, Michael Sheen and Djimon Hounsou, so there are a lot of recognizable names involved. Plus, Leo scooped an Oscar nomination for his work on the picture. While scrolling the list of movies being removed from Prime Video at the end of this month (on June 29, 2025), I stumbled across 'Blood Diamond' and figured now would be a good time for a long-overdue rewatch while it's still available on one of the best streaming services. The movie is carried mostly by the strength of its cast and isn't without its flaws, but if you're looking for something to watch on Prime Video this week, 'Blood Diamond' is a chunky action-thriller that viewers really love. Set in 1999, "Blood Diamond" opens as Sierra Leone is in the midst of a bloody civil war, with a ruthless revolutionary force roaming the countryside and forcing locals to harvest valuable diamonds to fund their campaign of terror. Stuck in the middle of the conflict is Solomon Vandy (Djimon Hounsou), a fisherman separated from his family and forced into a work camp. After discovering a seemingly priceless diamond and burying it in the ground to avoid having to give it up to the authorities, he becomes involved with a South African mercenary, Danny Archer (Leonardo DiCaprio). The two strike up a reluctant agreement to work together to retrieve the diamond, along with help from an American journalist (Jennifer Connelly). But getting back to the stone's location will force them to venture into rebel territory, a price that might be too great for even such a valuable treasure. 'Blood Diamond's' biggest asset is definitely Leo. The A-lister gives one of his finest performances as Danny Archer, and completely captures your attention in every single scene. Archer is a well-realized character, at first seeming entirely self-serving but eventually revealing a capacity to care for others and striking up a romance with Connelly's Maddy. And his tragic backstory only adds more dimension. DiCaprio brings Archer to life beautifully. No wonder he was nominated for an Academy Award. Plus, he's got a pretty great South African accent to boot. But that's not to say DiCaprio completely outshines his castmates. Djimon Hounsou is the movie's heart, and rightfully received an Oscar nomination of his own. Vandy's emotional journey to be reunited with his family is the movie's best character arc, and by the end, don't be shocked if you shed a few tears. The movie's biggest failing is that it gets bogged down repeating its thesis. Its comments on man's greed and the craven exploitation of the innocent civilizations in society (particularly during periods of conflict) are valuable. However, this worthwhile commentary is too often presented in a rather cookie-cutter, very Hollywood manner. Some subtlety would be nice. But even when 'Blood Diamond' verges into emotional manipulation, DiCaprio and Hounsou are so darn good that they easily sell you the material. And while it presents an African continent torn apart by Civil War, it still manages to highlight the undeniable beauty of the region. Viewers wanting bombastic thrills and frenetic firefights are well catered to, with several high-production action sequences. While the adrenaline-pumping moments perhaps feel at odds with the movie's message, they are quite well crafted, and there is one scene in particular involving Hounsou's son, which is smaller in scale, but it really leaves a devastating mark. The movie received a mixed reception from critics. It currently scored a middling 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, viewers found a lot more to like about 'Blood Diamond,' rating it a strong 90%. Recent reviews praise the cast, and one even calls it 'one of the greatest films of all time.' I'm not sure I'd echo that sentiment, but clearly lots of viewers liked this one quite a lot. As noted, you have until Sunday, June 29, 2025, to watch 'Blood Diamond' on Prime Video. So don't throw this one in your wishlist and forget about it (we all do it!), give it a stream as soon as possible. 9 skin-crawling zombie films to watch after 28 Years Later
Twenty-three years after we first saw the devastating effects of the Rage Virus, 28 Years Later has finally hit cinema screens. Rumours of a sequel to smash hit zombie films 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later have been rumbling following the release of the latter in 2007. And horror fans' prayers were answered when director Danny Boyle officially announced a third film was on the way with original writer Alex Garland returning. Not only that, 28 Years Later is part of a trilogy of films, so there's even more terrifying running undead moments to haunt our nightmares on the way. Released today in cinemas, 28 Years Later is set almost 30 years after the events of the first film (as the title would suggest), in which a group of survivors have found ways to live among the infected. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Jodie Comer, it is undoubtedly one of the biggest horror films hitting the big screen in 2025. But before you check it out in cinemas, you can get in the mood for some brain-eating action with these nine zombie films streaming right now. Where to watch: StudioCanal+ via Prime Video You probably don't expect to end a zombie film in floods of tears, but we can promise that is likely to happen if you decide to watch Train to Busan. Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the 2016 horror film mostly takes place on a KTX train from Seoul to Busan when a zombie apocalypse breaks out in the city. Two of the passengers on the train are Seok-woo (Gong Yoo) and his daughter Su-an (Kim Su-an), travelling to see Seok-woo's estranged wife and Su-an's mum, Na-young. Where to watch: Prime Video The opening scene of 28 Days Later is incredibly eerie, with Cillian Murphy's Jim waking up to find the world ravaged by the Rage Virus. 2018 film The Night Eats The World begins much the same, with musician Sam (Anders Danielsen Lie) waking to find himself the lone survivor in a city hit by a zombie apocalypse. Trapped in an apartment, he barricades himself in and begins formulating a way to survive. Where to watch: Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV+, and the Sky Store Following in the footsteps of the 28 Days franchise, The Girl With All the Gifts is a refreshing and bleak take on the zombie film that questions the state of humanity. The film begins on a military base where children, who harbour a disease caused by a parasitic fungus, are held in the hope of obtaining the cure that turns humans into mindless zombies called 'hungries.' When the base is attacked, one child, Melanie (Sennia Nanua), escapes with teacher Helen Justineau (Gemma Arterton), Sergeant Eddie Parks (Paddy Considine), Dr. Caroline Caldwell (Glenn Close), and soldier Gallagher (Fisayo Akinade). Where to watch: Shudder via Prime Video Released last year, MadS quickly became one of the highest-rated horror films of 2024 according to Rotten Tomatoes, and it's easy to see why. Directed by David Moreau and told all in one, long take, it follows the story of French club kid Romain (Milton Riche), who wakes up from another night of partying to do it all over again. While driving, he encounters an escaped patient from a local medical facility who appears to be injured, drastically changing the course of his evening. Where to watch: Arrow via Prime Video Found footage films immerse us in the events onscreen, which is absolutely terrifying when you consider the events of REC. The 2007 film stars Manuela Velasco as reporter Ángela Vidal, who, along with her cameraman Pablo (Pablo Rosso), accompanies a group of firefighters to an emergency call at an apartment building. Once inside, she discovers an infection is spreading among the residents, and all occupants must follow a strict quarantine, with the events of the night being captured in full, horrifying detail by Pablo's camera. Where to watch: JustWatch TV and FOUND for free Another chilling found footage zombie film is Savageland, which unfolds in one of the most unique ways of any pick on this list. The mockumentary explores the massacre of a small border town separating Arizona and Mexico, with suspicion falling on the lone survivor. However, the photographic evidence captured by the man shows the chilling details of what really happened. Where to watch: Available to rent via Prime Video and Apple TV+ The adage 'til death do us part' is proven very, very false in the 2014 horror comedy Life After Beth. Loosely based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Life After Beth follows Zach (Dane DeHaan), who is grieving the loss of his girlfriend Beth (Aubrey Plaza). However, when she is reanimated as a zombie, he is now tasked with preventing her deterioration while giving their relationship another shot at happiness. Where to watch: Prime Video Many films on this list take place in limited locations with protagonists defending themselves against flesh-hungry zombies in a contained space. And 2008 psychological thriller Pontypool, based on the novel Pontypool Changes Everything, is no different. The film follows radio announcer Grant Mazzy (Stephen McHattie), who finds himself trapped at his radio station during a live broadcast as a zombie outbreak begins, with Mazzy and the crew inside forced to fight for survival. Where to watch: Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV+, and the Sky Store More Trending Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger is in a zombie film, and what's more, it will absolutely devastate you to your core. It is unique in that it is set after the zombie apocalypse, but society has not completely fallen; rather, it is coming to terms with the devastating effects it has had on society. In the Midwest United States, Wade (Schwarzenegger) is enjoying his final weeks with his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) after she was bitten by a zombie and is slowly turning into one of them. 28 Years Later is in cinemas now. Anupamaa actor Sudhanshu Pandey, who was recently seen in Prime Video's reality show 'The Traitors' has called out fellow contestant Apoorva Mukhija aka The Rebel Kid for her disrespectful remark about veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi on the show. Sudhanshu, who went live on Instagram recently, criticized Apoorva strongly for saying, 'Ashish jaayega" behind his back, and addressing the senior actor in a casual and disrespectful tone. He questioned whether Ashish Vidyarthi was her childhood friend, to be spoken about so lightly. He said that it reflects very poorly on the current generation, and that it is 'not cool at all'. He labelled the behaviour as a 'curse on our society'. During the Instagram live, Sudhanshu Pandey said, 'Apoorva, who is known as The Rebel Kid, already has enough controversies surrounding her. I'm not saying she's a bad person. She's a good kid. I'm sure she has a good heart too. But jab aapki zubaan kharaab ho jaaye na, toh wo sab kuch kharaab kar deti hai. (Your tone and words can damage everything). Everything else goes for a toss if you do not have the know-how about what to say, and how to speak, about people who are senior to you. Raftaar To Maheep Kapoor: Contestants Evicted From The Traitors This Week
The actual traitors—Purab Jha and Elnaaz Norouzi—have successfully kept their identities hidden since day one. Karan Johar's The Traitors has quickly become one of the most gripping reality shows of the year, blending suspense, deception and nonstop drama. Streaming on Prime Video, the reality show is turning up the heat with each passing episode, and the latest one was no different. On June 19, the makers dropped the next set of episodes showing rising tensions as four innocent contestants were eliminated in a whirlwind of suspicion and betrayal. Check below the list of contestants whose journey came to an end this week. Mukesh Chhabra – The first shocker came when Mukesh Chhabra didn't show up for breakfast. Host Karan Johar announced that he was murdered by traitors Purab Jha and Elnaaz Norouzi at night. The two were dicey between Mukesh and Ashish Vidyarthi, but they ultimately chose the veteran actor. Maheep Kapoor – During the heated roundtable discussion, contestants were suspicious between Raftaar and Maheep Kapoor. Many guessed that Raftar was a traitor, as he argued with most of the contestants, but another set of contestants were firm on evicting Maheep. Eventually, she ended up with the majority vote, resulting in her eviction. Ashish Vidyarthi – As the game of 'shak' intensified, Ashish Vidyarthi became the next target. Although names like Apoorva Mukhija, Sufi Motiwala and Raftaar were under the radar of many, Ashish received the most votes for being the potential traitor and was eliminated. Raftaar – The next roundtable brought Raftaar's journey to an end. Most of the contestants accused Raftaar of being a traitor and not Apoorva Mukhija or Sufi Motiwala. After a long discussion, several voted against him. But later, it was revealed that all four contestants who were ousted from the show were in fact innocents. The actual traitors—Purab Jha and Elnaaz Norouzi—have successfully kept their identities hidden since day one. With traitors still lurking among them, the game's dynamics have shifted drastically, and trust continues to be the most dangerous weapon. The first wave of eliminations saw the exit of Sahil Salathia, Lakshmi Manchu and Karan Kundrra, who were also not Traitors. Also, Raj Kundra, a traitor, was eliminated from the show.
