Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang predicts boom in self driving cars, says ‘This is going to decade of ...'

Time of India13-06-2025

Nvidia
CEO
Jensen Huang
recently said that the next decade will be the era of autonomous driving cars, robots and autonomous machines. In an interview with CNBC's Arjun Kharpal Thursday at the Viva Tech conference in Paris, Huang said 'This is going to be the decade of AV [autonomous vehicles], robotics, autonomous machines.'
Nvidia is playing an important role in the rise of
autonomous vehicles
(AVs), supplying both hardware and software to support their development. The US chip giant is a key enabler behind the growing fleet of
self-driving cars
, especially in the U.S., where
Waymo
— owned by Google — operates robotaxi services in cities like San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.
China has also seen growing adoption, with companies like Baidu and Pony.ai running their own robotaxi networks.

Recently, Huang attended the London Tech Week where he said that AI is a 'great equalizer' as it enables anyone to program using everyday language. Admitting that computing was hard historically, he said 'We had to learn programming languages. We had to architect it. We had to design these computers that are very complicated'. 'Now, all of a sudden ... there's a new programming language. This new programming language is called 'human,'' he added. "Most people don't know C++, very few people know Python, and everybody, as you know, knows human.'
He continued: 'The way you program a computer today, to ask the computer to do something for you, even write a program, generate images, write a poem — just ask it nicely.'
'And the thing that's really, really quite amazing is the way you program an AI is like the way you program a person.'
Explaining further, Huang gave an example saying, 'You say, 'You are an incredible poet. You are deeply steeped in Shakespeare, and I would like you to write a poem to describe today's keynote.' Without very much effort, this AI would help you generate such a wonderful poem.'

Strict action will be taken against projects lacking proper permissions, says HYDRAA chief

Hyderabad: At the Times Home Hunt Property Expo held recently, Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner A V Ranganath cautioned that any new projects lacking proper permissions or built on encroached land will face strict action. 'Only layouts approved before HYDRAA's formation on July 19 last year will be exempt. All others must comply with current regulations,' said Ranganath, noting that unchecked construction contributed significantly to urban issues like flooding and traffic congestion. HYDRAA was set up not just as a watchdog, he said, but also as a proactive body aimed at promoting sustainable and responsible urban development. 'HYDRAA is not just about demolitions. We are focused on creating a healthier, more environmentally conscious real estate ecosystem,' Ranganath added. The authority is working closely with other agencies to rejuvenate lakes, address urban flooding, and improve drainage infrastructure. He also pointed out that traffic congestion alone costs the state nearly Rs 300 crore in infrastructure loss, underscoring the need for better planning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo 'We received criticism that HYDRAA slowed real estate activity, but there were geopolitical concerns, delays in RERA clearances, and approval bottlenecks at GHMC and HMDA—also played a role. If a project is legally approved, we won't interfere. Our aim is to ensure compliance and environmental responsibility,' he said.

State to survey lakes with drones, rovers

Bengaluru: To eliminate the need for repeated surveys of lakes and improve conservation efforts, the state survey and settlement department (SSLR) has switched to high-tech digital mapping, using drones and rovers. This large-scale effort, covering thousands of waterbodies, is expected to modernise how the state tracks its lakes and prevent encroachments. SSLR commissioner J Manjunath said. "We will also mark buffer zones of the lakes during the survey. This digital survey will be helpful to preserve, conserve, and protect the lakes," he added. To manage the data generated from these surveys, the department has developed dedicated software named Web GiS, which will serve as a centralised database for various govt agencies. Each surveyed lake's file will include its exact GPS coordinates, survey numbers, boundaries, extent, ownership (govt department or agency), encroachment details if any, and survey sketches. In the past two years alone, digital surveys were completed for 8,433 lakes using drones and rovers. These details have already been uploaded on Web GiS. Officials estimate only 6,210 lakes remain to be digitally mapped. This final leg of the digital survey is expected to be completed by Dec 31, 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Ibiraci (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo Overall, the department has identified 41,849 lakes across Karnataka. Traditional survey methods using chains and compasses had earlier been used to survey 27,206 lakes. The department adopted the digital approach to complete the survey of the remaining 14,643 lakes, of which 8,433 have been digitally mapped. Initially, the Web GiS data will be restricted to govt agencies, but officials say the data will later be made public, enhancing transparency and access.

Experts roped in for busy trafffic crossings

Jaipur: To address growing traffic congestion, the Jaipur Commissionerate's traffic department plans to engage a traffic institution for expert solutions at two major city junctions—the MI Road–Tonk Road Junction near the Yadgar traffic headquarters and the Govt Hostel Crossing near the Commissionerate headquarters. Officials said the rapid increase in vehicular traffic has turned these crossings into daily bottlenecks. The situation is expected to worsen with the upcoming construction of Jaipur Metro Line 2 by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC). The main line will pass through the Govt Hostel Crossing, while a spur from Chandpole Gate will link Line 1 and Line 2 at the same point. JMRC also has plans for metro connectivity to Ajmeri Gate. DCP (traffic) Shaheen C confirmed that preliminary surveys and measures have been implemented. "We are now seeking expert technical input and will appoint a third-party agency to suggest solutions. Institutions like MNIT and others are under consideration," she said. Meanwhile, the traffic department installed sensor-enabled signals at these two crossings. Such signals are installed at a few other crossings in the city, like the Rambagh Circle. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "The time limits (for green or red) at these signals are not pre-set. These signals determine the volume of traffic on each flank and glow red or green according to the requirement. Recently, we installed these signals at these two crossings. Traffic movements at both crossings improved to some extent following the installations," said a senior traffic official. The traffic department also decided to install signals with illuminated poles at all the traffic signals across the city. This technology enables the lighting on the entire pole to be synchronized with the signal, which helps motorists to have a view of the signal, even if they are stranded behind a bigger vehicle.
