A dessert shop has come under fire after food inspectors discovered a sickening mouse infestation as soon as they walked through the doors.
Javid Shah, the owner of Dessert Lounge in Stockport, was slapped with a fine of just under £12,000, for putting his customers at risk. Stockport Council took the businessman to court after he demonstrated "serious failure to protect public health."

Shocking images revealed the dire state of the dessert shop, which included mouse droppings sprawled around the floor and cupboards. In one picture, droppings could be seen next to syrup bottles. Inspectors stressed that the infestation was severe and said they had noticed droppings as soon as they entered the shop. They were also found in food packaging and plastic cups.

On May 9, Mr Shah pleaded guilty to seven food hygiene offences after the disgusting conditions were found during a routine inspection, reports Manchester Evening News. He was charged with failing to protect food and the premises from pest contamination, not keeping equipment and surfaces clean and disinfected, failing to ensure food packaging was not exposed to contamination, and not maintaining procedures based on HACCP principles.
He was fined £3,500 and ordered to pay £7,000 in costs and a £1,400 victim surcharge. In addition to the infestation, inspectors also found an unsatisfactory standard of cleaning across the establishment. This included no effective pest control, as well as people handling food not receiving proper training or supervision.
In addition, there was also not an accessible wash basin with hot and cold water, or somewhere for people to hygienically dry their hands. Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection, said: "The appalling conditions found at Dessert Lounge represent a serious failure to protect public health.
"This kind of negligence is completely unacceptable, and we will continue to take strong enforcement action against any business that puts customers at risk. I'm pleased that improvements have now been made, but this prosecution sends a clear message that we will always prioritise the safety of residents and visitors when it comes to food hygiene."
Since the legal action the business has taken steps to address the serious concerns which were raised. An inspection has since been carried out on March 4, and the business was awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of four.

Brandon lost his life when a red Audi car 'accelerated' and then 'turned into him' while he was standing on a street with two friends, according to what was revealed at the opening of his inquest. The two friends managed to dodge the car, but the father-of-one was hit on Porritt Street and was later pronounced dead, reports the Manchester Evening News. Police have confirmed that a man wanted for questioning in relation to his death - identified as 23 year old Tino Williams - remains at large, with a manhunt underway. The family expressed their utter confusion over the actions of two women who took part in the photoshoot at the home of a recently murdered young man, pleading with them to erase the footage they captured on their phones during the photoshoot. A family spokesperson conveyed their shock to the Manchester Evening News: "How dare they? It is just ridiculous. She even floats her dress in the video and puts down her jacket on the table in the front garden. These two very inconsiderate women took it upon themselves to trespass onto the front garden and have a little photoshoot at the house of a young lad who has just been murdered. ‌ "We cannot understand why these people would do such a thing. We are all just flabbergasted. We do not know why this has happened. It is disgusting and it is bizarre. We want to find out who these people are so we can ask them why?" Speaking to the M. E.N. , the family's representative said: "Because we do not know who these two are, we do not know what they have done with the videos and pictures they took. This has caused a lot of distress and we would ask them to delete all the images and pictures they took at once. ‌ "This situation is not a bit of entertainment for other people. This is real life and we are trying to grieve in peace without mindless people taking advantage" Brandon's family has disclosed that they haven't yet informed the Greater Manchester Police about a particular situation but are mulling over filing a formal report. Following Brandon's sudden passing, his family gave an emotional statement saying: "We are all truly shocked and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Brandon. "He was a gentle, kind-hearted young man whose warmth and social nature touched everyone around him. Brandon was taken far too soon, and his passing has left a deep void in all our lives. ‌ "They also paid homage to his role as a parent, stating: "Brandon was a devoted dad to his young daughter, who he loved deeply. His family meant everything to him, and the bond he shared with his mum was incredibly special, they were best friends. "Amid their sorrowful period, the family entreated for privacy: "As we come to terms with this devastating news, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and support one another through this difficult time. ". In connection to Brandon's death, a 38 year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently released on bail pending further police investigations. Georgia Harrison from Whitworth in Rochdale, was arrested alongside her partner after trying to leave the Lexia Hotel in Antalya on May 7. ‌ The couple had spent the night celebrating her boyfriend getting his new Turkey teeth as part of the trip when she says she blacked out and smashed the glass bathroom screen, reports the Manchester Evening News. ‌ After leaving the hotel without declaring the damage, she then claims her taxi was chased down and blocked in before police were called, where she was thrown in a Turkish cell and held there for several days with "hundreds of men" Georgia claims they were then hauled into court before a judge and banned from leaving the country until the hotel was paid back the sum of £15,000 - money which she says she cannot afford. She said the embassy suggested instructing a lawyer who has tried to mediate and get the ban lifted, including by offering to pay £3,000 in damages, but six weeks later, is still stuck in the country and unable to leave to go home to her 12-year-old daughter. Her partner is also on a travel ban. "I got drunk and I have somehow smashed the shower screen of the hotel room and damaged the room. [It was the] worst mistake of my life. Anyway it's done, I can't change it but wow am I paying for it," she said. "I have three sisters there so they are keeping her busy and I know she's safe and well, but I am her mum and I should be able to provide for her and love her like I always have. I've never been without her, the five day trip was going to be the longest ever."

Stockport restaurant owner fined over mouse infestation

The owner of a dessert restaurant has been fined after a "serious" mouse infestation was discovered. Dessert Lounge on Castle Street in Edgeley, Stockport, was visited by inspectors who found droppings "immediately upon entry" in July Javed Shah admitted seven food hygiene offences at Tameside Magistrates' Court last month and was fined £500. He was also ordered to pay £7,000 in costs and a £1,400 victim surcharge.
