Kaizer Chiefs in secret talks to sign goal machine Steven Mukwala
Kaizer Chiefs have set their sights on prolific Ugandan striker Steven Dese Mukwala, with a source confirming the club's growing intent to secure his signature ahead of the next transfer window.
When head coach Nasreddine Nabi was spotted at the KMC Complex in Tanzania during the Simba vs Singida clash, he wasn't just there for show, he was watching Mukwala in action.
The 25-year-old striker has been a standout performer this season, and his presence on the pitch clearly caught Nabi's attention.
Behind the scenes, things moved swiftly. Chiefs' head of scouting and recruitment, Thembela Maliwa, alongside Nabi's assistant Cedric Kaze, held a secret meeting with Mukwala's agent at a private hotel in Dar es Salaam. The agenda? A potential move to Naturena.
'Chiefs have a strong interest in the Ugandan striker and are ready to make an offer to sign him,' a source confirmed.
However, any immediate deal could face a delay. Simba SC President Mo Dewji has reportedly instructed the club not to entertain transfer negotiations for Mukwala, until the conclusion of the current Tanzanian season, which is the 22 of June 2025.
But Kaizer Chiefs aren't the only ones circling. Newly crowned CAF Confederation Cup winners RS Berkane have also made formal enquiries following the final in Zanzibar. The Moroccan outfit are said to be preparing a R5.3 million bid to lure the striker north.
Mukwala's statistics this season highlight exactly why he's attracting so much interest. He has bagged 12 goals and delivered three assists, making him one of the most efficient forwards on the continent. To add to that, the ex-Asante Kotoko forward remains under contract until June 2027.
With two major clubs now vying for his services and more potentially to come, Mukwala has become one of the most in-demand strikers in African football. Once the Tanzanian season ends, expect a transfer showdown.
Will Steven Dese Mukwala fit in at Kaizer Chiefs or RS Berkane?

Kaizer Chiefs close to signing three in-demand free agents!
Kaizer Chiefs have the opportunity to pick up some serious muscle – for free. However, that doesn't mean they will. Asanele Velebayi and former Mamelodi Sundowns player Sipho Mbule, both out of contract, have been offered to AmaKhosi by their respective agents, but the club has yet to make a decision, showcasing their hesitation. Either player would presumably be a great addition for Kaizer Chiefs, but perhaps they have other players in mind and could see these two players as insurance if they fall short of other targets. AmaZulu FC star Rowan Human is another free agent who has been offered to the Glamour Boys. The 24-year-old recently decided not to extend his contract with uSuthu, making him available from July 1. 'AmaZulu FC midfielder Rowan Human has been offered to Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs by his representatives as he is set to leave the club on a free transfer. Human will leave Usuthu at the end of June after his contract expires after the 24-year-old failed to reach an agreement with the club on a new contract,' a source revealed. 'Human has been offered to both Soweto giants by his representatives and it could only be a matter of time before he gets snapped up as he will be a free agent and rediscovered his old form.' Kaizer Chiefs missing four players, including Duba!
Kaizer Chiefs returned to training in preparation for their upcoming pre-season tour in Europe, which will see them take on Dutch giants FC Utrecht. However, as they returned for their first training session on June 20, onlookers noticed four absentees: Mduduzi Shabalala, Bruce Bvuma, Wandile Duba, and Aden McCarthy. The reasoning behind their non-inclusion is that they recently participated in the COSAFA Cup, which was deemed sufficient to grant them additional time off before returning to practice. Each player is expected to board a plane to the Netherlands. PSL winner Percy Tau has made it clear that he is happy to join AmaKhosi for next to nothing; however, former Kaizer Chiefs forward Katlego Mphela believes this would be a mistake. 'In the past few seasons Chiefs have not been doing well despite winning a trophy last season and they need players who will help them change the team's fortunes,' said Mphela. 'But I don't think signing Percy Tau will be the solution if you look at the history of most former Sundowns players who joined Chiefs, including myself. We don't live up to expectations. There are a lot of expectations, and that puts pressure on the players.' 'Look at what happened to Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat or Edward Manqele.' 'Yes, they are different players but expectations are the same and history is the same,' he added. 'It's a tricky one because Percy has a lot of quality and experience but the history will tell Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
