Look of the Week: Pedro Pascal's premiere outfit shows support for trans women

CNN23-04-2025

Pedro Pascal has used a movie premiere in London to advocate for trans rights.
The Hollywood actor was photographed at the red carpet launch of 'Thunderbolts*,' the latest offering from Marvel Studios, in a T-shirt proclaiming 'Protect the dolls.'
The garment, designed by London-based American designer Conner Ives, has gone viral since Ives wore it at the finale of his Fall-Winter 2025 show in February. The slogan is seen as a show of solidarity with trans women, who are affectionately dubbed 'dolls' by the LGBTQ community.
Pascal's appearance comes a week after Britain's Supreme Court ruled that the legal definition of 'woman' in equality legislation is determined by biological sex — excluding transgender women. While some celebrated the ruling, others within Britain's trans community have described being 'absolutely devastated' by the decision, which will have wide-ranging consequences for how equality laws are applied in the United Kingdom.
This is not the first time that Pascal has been spotted wearing the statement T-shirt. He was also pictured in it at his 50th birthday party in London earlier this month. Ives posted on Instagram a picture of Pascal in the T-shirt with trans DJ Honey Dijon, with the caption: 'Thank you, to every person that has purchased a tee, and raised money for @translifeline. It has been a marathon getting these tees made but I'm so happy to be getting these out.'
The issue is more than just a fashion statement for the 'Last of Us' star. Pascal's younger sister Lux is a trans actress and model. In 2021, he posted on Instagram about an interview she did with a Chilean magazine about her transition. Sharing a picture of the front cover of Revista Ya, he wrote: 'My sister, my heart, our Lux.'
Others who have helped raise the T-shirt's profile have included Australian actor and singer-songwriter Troye Sivan, French designer Haider Ackermann and Nick Knight, founder of fashion film and photography website SHOWstudio.
Profits from the T-shirts, which sell for £75 ($100) online, benefit US charity Trans Lifeline. Ives website states: 'Given the US Federal government's current hostility towards trans people, support like this is needed now more than ever.'
Slogan T-shirts are a surefire way for celebrities to make headlines. Model and socialite Hayley Bieber, who is the daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin and is married to Justin Bieber, was pictured in 2023 wearing a tee with the slogan 'nepo baby.'

Babyshambles guitarist Patrick Walden dies aged 46

Former Babyshambles star Patrick Walden has died aged 46. The guitarist - who starred in the British rock band alongside Pete Doherty, Drew McConnell, Mick Whitnall and Adam Ficek - has passed away, with the news being announced via Babyshambles' official Facebook page. A statement from the band read: "It is with deep regret and sadness that we share the news of Patrick Walden's death. "We feel very fortunate to have known, loved and worked with him and we kindly ask for respect and privacy during these difficult times. "Peter, Drew, Mik, Adam. (sic)" Patrick performed in a variety of bands - including Fluid, the Six Cold Thousand, and The White Sport - before he joined Babyshambles back in 2003. The rock group - who were formed by Pete during a hiatus from the Libertines - released three albums together, including Down in Albion in 2005, Shotter's Nation in 2007 and Sequel to the Prequel in 2013. The Libertines re-formed in 2014, but Babyshambles continued to perform sporadic shows and festivals throughout that year. In 2024, Pete revealed that a Babyshambles reunion was in the works. The 46-year-old musician admitted that the band were hoping to reunite to mark the 20th anniversary of their debut album. Pete - who was well-known for his turbulent personal life during his time in Babyshambles - told NME at the time: "It is on the cards. We will get back together and get in a room with the instruments and play through the old songs, then get on stage and do it. "But it's the who and the when that needs to be worked out. I think we'll just keep that one on the horizon and deal with that one next year." Meanwhile, Patrick also worked as a live guitarist and as a session musician for a number of well-known artists, including James Blunt and Whitey.

Bill Belichick emails show why Jordon Hudson was at fateful CBS interview

There's now more clarity surrounding Bill Belichick's infamous April CBS interview in which Jordon Hudson made an extremely awkward cameo. WRAL News, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based outlet, obtained emails from UNC through a public records request that answered some of the lingering questions about Hudson's role in the UNC head coach's interview and her influence in their relationship. The interview was arranged for Belichick to promote his new book, 'The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football,' but things took a turn after the 73-year-old was asked how he and his 24-year-old girlfriend met, as Hudson interrupted and shut down the question. Advertisement An email from Belichick explained why Hudson was even there in the first place. 'Jordon was present at the CBS interview because David Kass, the Simon & Schuster publicist, was not there,' Belichick wrote in an email elaborating on Hudson's role at the interview and within the book. 'I included Jordon in the book acknowledgments because she was a creative contributor to the book, including having the idea for formatting the 4 special pages in the book.' Advertisement Belichick also added, 'Jordon and I have both a personal & professional relationship.' 'This is not a secret,' he wrote in an email. 'Jordon assists me with my personal media, which is why I asked UNC to forward media requests (E.G. CBS 60 Minutes) to her. Jordon has zero involvement in the UNC football program, beyond the degree that my personal media intersects with it.' 4 Bill Belichick is preparing for his first season as the head football coach of the UNC Tar Heels. Getty Images In the emails in the WRAL report, Belichick's focus was on the fact that Hudson was not stepping in as an angry and controlling girlfriend, but was coming in so as not to diminish the interview's true purpose: to promote the book. Advertisement 'For approximately 35 uninterrupted minutes, (the interviewer) Tony [Dokoupil] asked questions about the book,' Belichick wrote. 'Then, the questions shifted to other subjects that were not related to the Art of Winning, which we had outlined as off-limits with my book publicist.' Adding fuel to the fire, Belichick said CBS had set up a camera on Hudson, who deliberately sought a spot to sit off-camera — this was how the viral moments of Hudson were captured. Throughout the nightmare that became of the situation for Belichick and UNC, alumni were even emailing the university with their concern surrounding UNC becoming a 'laughing stock in the sports world because of his young girlfriend.' With all eyes on the relationship and the program for quite some time, Belichick's messages read, 'I don't want to make a wrong move here,' after the interview, as he and the university devised and later released a statement on April 30 to clear the air.
