Arsenal snubbed by Roma star as Mikel Arteta forced into transfer rethink

Daily Mirror30-05-2025

Arsenal are looking to provide competition to William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes in defence, with Evan Ndicka a top target, but the Ivory Coast international has reportedly handed a blow to Mikel Arteta
Roma star Evan Ndicka is set to snub a move to Arsenal, with the defender happy in the Italian capital after becoming one of the club's "immovable" players. Ndicka was an ever-present for Roma in the 2024-25 Serie A season, starting all 38 games as they finished fifth in the table under boss Claudio Ranieri.
The 25-year-old put in some solid displays at the back and has been linked with some top clubs across Europe. Arsenal are thought to be leading the way for his signature as they look to add competition alongside William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

But Ndicka has turned down a chance to move to Mikel Arteta 's side in favour of staying with Roma, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.

Even if Ndicka was interested in pursuing a move, any transfer would prove difficult because Roma see him as indispensable - highlighting him as one of eight "immovable" stars this summer.
Roma have decided that Ndicka is not for sale - along with Mile Svilar, Gianluca Mancini, Manu Kone, Niccolo Pisilli, Angelino, Paulo Dybala and Matias Soule.
The report says Ndicka is a "essential point of reference" and one of the "two pillars" of their defence with Mancini. The club will want him to stay put as they look to attract a new manager following the departure of Ranieri.

The report claims the player wants to continue his excellent form at the club, despite the team missing out on Champions League football.
Ndicka is an Ivory Coast international with 20 caps for his country. He has featured 82 times for Roma since joining them in 2023.

He previously turned out for Eintracht Frankfurt, where he played 183 games, having started his career with French side Auxerre.
Ndicka has previously spoken out about his future, insisting last month that he was committed to Roma - at least until the end of his contract.
"I'm not pretending that I don't see the rumours,' Ndicka told L'Equipe. "But I have respect in Rome and I respect them. I have three years remaining on my contract, we will see what happens later."
In addition to defence, Arsenal boss Arteta is desperately looking to upgrade his forward options. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are two of his major targets after being left without a recognised No 9 for the season.

Lennon Miller transfer truth outs as Celtic and dizzying list of signing suitors hear it straight

Interest in the Fir Park star is growing at home and abroad with a big money exit expected this summer. Lennon Miller has his heart set on moving abroad and joining the increasing band of Scots tearing up the continent. Celtic and Rangers remain linked with the Motherwell star who is expected to make a big money move from Fir Park this summer. ‌ But the 18-year-old - who made his Scotland debut this month - wants to learn a new footballing style and culture. ‌ As well as the Old Firm, Miller has interest from England, Italy, Germany, Belgium and France. There's been no official offers tabled for the playmaker yet this summer. But new Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou admitted on Thursday he was planning for life without his star man. And Miller's dad Lee, the former Scotland striker, says he also expects the Well wonderkid to leave Fir Park in the next two months. Italians Udinese had two offers knocked back in January and could return to the table while Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Strasbourg, Union Saint Gilloise and a host of English clubs have been linked. Motherwell will demand a club record fee of over £5m for their prize asset. ‌ And asked if this was the time for the teenager, who is in the last year of his Well contract, to move on, Miller senior said: 'I think so, yeah. 'There's a lot of interest in Lennon. 'In terms of bids going in for him, there's nothing went in this summer. ‌ 'There were a few bids in January and the valuation of Lennon wasn't met, so it's one of those ones we'll just wait. 'Lennon's on holiday now, he's chilling out, just relaxing. He's ready for the season coming ahead but who knows where that'll be. 'His preferable choice would be abroad. ‌ 'He's not just going to go to a club for the sake of it. It needs to have the right environment, it needs to have the right manager, the right club. 'Lennon's not bothered with the money side of things, that'll come. Obviously it's a short career and you need to earn money. 'But he wants to go and progress his career and then kick on again. ‌ 'So we'll see. I don't know what that'll be. But it needs to be a place where he can then grow again.' Miller came through the Well academy from the age of eight and made his debut six days after his 16th birthday in August 2022. The midfielder has gone on to make 76 top tam appearances, captaining the side in last year's League Cup semi final against Rangers, and winning his first Scotland caps against Greece and Liechtenstein earlier this month. ‌ Rubbing shoulders with Serie A Scots Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson, Che Adams and Josh Doig whetted his appetite for a move abroad. Now his dad hopes his future can be sorted soon. ‌ He said: 'Yeah. A bit of uncertainty isn't great. Although, he just gets on with it, he just plays football, that's what he's there to do. . 'But the next move for Lennon is so important in terms of his development. 'His development is key in this. ‌ 'It needs to be the right move whether it's abroad, whether it's here. 'He needs to play football, he needs to develop because everything so far has went to plan. 'He's played a number of first team games, he's a recognised first team player now although he's only 18. ‌ 'The next step has to be playing games again in a different environment, in a different culture. 'Learning a different way of playing, a different style of playing and learning different processes within the game because Lennon over the years having followed me, has studied the game. 'He studied the game really, really intensely so that's why he is ahead of the game because he's been to games with me and he wasn't a kid that just had his iPad out with his phone. 'He watched every bit of every game. That's why he looks so mature and he is so mature for his age. 'He plays the game like a 35-year-old who's played 500 games first team so that's a credit to him.'

And the pair, plus re-signed Celtic hero Kieran Tierney, 28 — who has a million social media fans — are primed to rake in fortunes from their posts. Brand expert Nick Ede told how they are cashing in on links to other major teams. Robbo is tipped to move to Spain's Atletico Madrid, while McTominay started at Manchester United and Tierney was at Arsenal for six years. Mr Ede said their Instagram figures could be translated into 'millions of pounds'. He explained: 'They attract loads of followers, and not just football fans. "As with any kind of public figure, people want to know more about them. 'And that could be brands they're associated with. It builds up your following. 'It also means they have a strong currency to expand their personal brand — and it's great for the team they play for.' But the trio are not prolific contributors. Alexander Isak's stance on Liverpool transfer revealed with huge new fee set

Liverpool have not made any approach to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United with the striker not expected to demand an exit this summer. The Premier League champions have moved swiftly and decisively in the summer transfer window, immediately bringing in a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in Jeremie Frimpong with Milos Kerkez expected to arrive from Bournemouth. Florian Wirtz sealed his move to Anfield on Friday night in the biggest deal in Premier League history, arriving for a fee that could rise to £116million. Liverpool's spending might not end there. With Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez possibly leaving Merseyside, a centre forward to lead Arne Slot's attack could be sought. His side have been linked with a sensational move for Isak, whose current contract at St James' Park expires in 2028. But despite growing speculation, the Daily Telegraph report Isak is settled on Tyneside and is not agitating for a move away this summer. There is no expectation that situation will change in the coming months with Newcastle under no pressure from profitability and sustainability rules to sell anyone as things currently stand. Arsenal are long-term admirers of the Sweden international but have given up hope of luring him to the Emirates after being quoted at least £150million last year. The report suggests Newcastle's valuation has only grown, claiming it would take a fee closer to £200m to prise him away – one close to the price Paris Saint-Germain paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona eight years ago. Liverpool have made no contact with Newcastle at this stage – not even an informal enquiry. Isak scored 23 Premier League goals and 27 in all competitions as Newcastle won the Carabao Cup secured Champions League qualification last season. More Trending With European football back on the menu, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer is convinced his side's leading man is going nowhere. 'Got to keep him and they will, I'm pretty certain of that,' Shearer said on The Rest is Football. 'Because of their success this year, because they've got Champions League football, all of those things. 'There's not a worry in my mind that he's going anywhere. He'll be a Newcastle player next season because he's a very, very, very good player.'
