Red Sox Predicted to Replace Jarren Duran With 68 Home Run Slugger Jace LaViolette

The Boston Red Sox are seemingly embracing a youth movement, which might not be the worst idea.

However, for the Red Sox to continue doing that, they need to hit the draft out of the park. The Red Sox hold the 15th overall pick in this upcoming draft, giving them an opportunity to add another young star.
Looking at options for the Red Sox to select, The Athletic recently predicted they'd take Jace LaViolette, a left-handed hitting slugger out of Texas A&M.
'This is more of a bet on the Red Sox taking a player who was generally considered among the top bats in the class coming into the spring but who had a rough spring than any specific tie between the two. The Red Sox went very college-heavy last year, taking just one high school player in the top 10 rounds and only one more after that. I could also see them on Gavin Kilen or Ike Irish,' Keith Law wrote.

LaViolette is widely considered one of the top college prospects in the nation, and for good reason. All he did during his time in the SEC at Texas A&M was swing the bat at a high level, evident by his 68 home runs.

If he falls to the 15th pick, there's reason to believe the Red Sox would be very interested in taking him.
With the possibility of trading Jarren Duran following recent rumors, selecting someone who could replace him much quicker than a high school bat makes sense.
It remains uncertain if the Red Sox want to find an immediate contributor, but LaViolette could be just that.

Josh Jacobs Named to NFL's ‘Bad Luck' List Due to Team Penalties
Josh Jacobs Named to NFL's 'Bad Luck' List Due to Team Penalties originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Green Bay Packers saw great things with Josh Jacobs in just one season and are hoping for more in the upcoming campaign. Advertisement Jacobs became an integral part of the team's offense, playing all 17 games and helping Green Bay reach the postseason. The former Las Vegas Raiders back tallied an impressive 1,329 rushing yards on 301 attempts, achieving the second-best yards total in his career. He also scored 15 rushing touchdowns, the most he's ever had in six seasons, showing he is a valuable component on the field for quarterback Jordan Love to hand off to or throw to. An NFL report arrived on Friday the 13th, which some believe is an unlucky day on the calendar. Based on the NFL's data, Jacobs led the league in a "bad luck" stat last season. Advertisement The star running back had the most rushing yards negated by penalties, 94, although that isn't necessarily Jacobs' fault, as Packers teammates were also responsible. He also had three touchdowns taken away due to penalties, tied for the most in the NFL. It's also worth noting that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Johnson was right behind Jacobs with 87 rushing yards negated by penalties. Despite the unfortunate stat hindrance, Jacobs still had a healthy and significant season in his Packers debut, finishing fifth amongst running backs for total rushing yards last season. Let's not forget, he also caught 36 passes for 342 receiving yards and a touchdown. His skills after a catch were on full display in a highlight against the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. The good news is there's a new season ahead, with the Packers ready to push beyond than the Wild Card Playoffs. Advertisement In his seventh NFL season, a talented and powerful back like Jacobs could perform better than he did in 2024. However, his teammates should really cut down on those penalties to help him progress in Green Bay. Their other NFC North foes have higher ratings. The Minnesota Vikings check in with an 83, while the Detroit Lions carry an 88 in the game's beta version. While many fans on X griped about the team ratings revealed in this beta leak, there weren't any complaints about the Packers yet. "They literally said the deep dive all the ratings are randomly generated," one X commenter said. Another wrote on X, "They aren't finalized they never are don't take this into account." It could also improve as the new season progresses. Madden NFL 26 releases on August 14 with additional details from the game forthcoming. WNBA files trademarks for the name ‘Portland Fire' and stylized ‘P' logo
The WNBA filed trademarks for the name 'Portland Fire' and a stylized 'P' logo earlier this week, potentially indicating that the league's 15th franchise will revive the Fire name from the team that existed from 2000-02. The league's expansion to Portland was announced in September 2024, and the team will begin play in 2026 alongside the Toronto Tempo. The organization has teased an announcement for next month — a statement from a spokesperson for WNBA Portland reads, 'The countdown is on. We'll see you July 15!' The countdown is on ⏰ — WNBA Portland (@wnbaportland) June 20, 2025 If it does choose the name Fire, the new Portland team is hoping it doesn't carry the prior team's track record. The Fire had three unremarkable seasons during the WNBA's first decade, cracking .500 in their final year in the league and never qualifying for the playoffs. The franchise folded due to financial losses, one of six teams to fold by 2009. Advertisement The expansion Portland team hired Inky Son, formerly the chief administrative officer of the National Basketball Players Association, as its team president earlier this year and the organization's first employee. The organization also broke ground on its practice facility in April, a space that will be shared with the NWSL's Portland Thorns, who are also under the same ownership of RAJ Sports. However, while Toronto has hired a general manager and assistant GM among other employees, in addition to revealing its team branding, Portland has yet to build out its basketball operations staff. Both franchises will also have to hire head coaches before the expansion draft following the 2025 WNBA season. The league is still in the process of expansion and accepted bids for its 16th franchise through January. More than 10 groups submitted formal bids, but the WNBA has not yet announced a winner.
